Today's footie 9/5
So as I had a day off yesterday time to post the daily footy thread again.
4 PL games
Wolves-Brighton
Villa-Man Utd
WHU-Everton
Arsenal-WBA
If Utd don't win then City will finally seal the title, and if the Baggies don't get at least a point at the Emirates they're mathematically relegated.
The Hammers have a great chance to put huge pressure on Leicester with a win, on paper Wolves-Brighton is an end of season tussle, but we probably would prefer a home win, we're unlikely to catch Wolves now, but we can definitely finish above Brighton.
A full card in League 1, the big issue to be resolved is whether Portsmouth, Oxford or Charlton will occupy the final play-off place.
Portsmouth know a win will seal the deal, well Oxford and Charlton just need to win and then hope, all 3 are at home to Stanley, Burton & Hull respectively.

Still not sure how Brighton didn’t get a pen shortly after the goal. It’s virtually one way traffic.

Wolves haven't looked interested since last October, awful side. Hope they carry their disinterest through to next season, then they will be a candidate for relegation

Re: Today's footie 9/5
Uninterested v disinterested is disputed territory. As I recall the OED allows that disinterested may be used in the meaning of uninterested (and historically the words were interchangeable), but that it is considered to be a ‘loose’ usage, as disinterested has a specific meaning relating to a lack of interest, as in pecuniary interest, which also extends to a lack of bias in a matter. Personally I prefer to confine disinterested to that definition but it is not incorrect to use it for uninterested.

I thought Wolves' issue was failing to overcome the injury to their striker?

Re: Today's footie 9/5
Wolves are on the beach again, Brighton could win this by 3 or 4, as for the possible pen it could have been given, and the defender is taking a big risk by tussling with Burn.
Since Jimenez got injured at Arsenal Wolves have collected 25 points in 24 games, and that form over the course of a season will see them potentially on the verge of a relegation battle, thankfully for them he may yet return before the end of this season, and that'll be a big boost for them if he does.

Re: Today's footie 9/5
That’s definitely played a massive part and no doubt they’ll be stronger again next season. But they seem to have packed this season in weeks ago which would leave me worried about the manager’s ability to motivate his players if I were a Wolves fan.GodIsADeeJay81 wrote: ↑Sun May 09, 2021 12:53 pmI thought Wolves' issue was failing to overcome the injury to their striker?

Will only miss their game against West Ham and should be back for their last two games against Manchester City and Arsenal.
He could still be the matchwinner in this game which is looking more and more likely!

Game has changed in second half with red card definitely helping Wolves who really should be in front now.

Yes it's been all Wolves since the sending off, the only question is can they find a winner.

Had to come. Wolves 2-1 up.
And it’s Gibbs-White who’d missed the sitter.

Gibbs-White making up for his earlier miss, he buried that one, decent outcome for us in the end, a victory tomorrow would lift us up to 14th.

Re: Today's footie 9/5
Maupay dismissed after the game ended for mouthing off at Jon Moss. They never learn, oh dear, how sad, never mind.
That should be a two match ban and I have just realised that Dunk has been dismissed once before during this season, therefore, his ban should be two matches.

Amazing how we nullify Traore so easily when we struggle against other similar players.

Re: Today's footie 9/5
I turned over immediately the final whistle blew to watch last few mins of Accy, but Maupay should have gone a couple of mins into stoppage time for an off the ball incident but it wasn't picked up by Moss - what a horrible player he is.Ashingtonclaret46 wrote: ↑Sun May 09, 2021 2:00 pmMaupay dismissed after the game ended for mouthing off at Jon Moss. Re: Today's footie 9/5
Stupid red from Maupay, and he and Dunk will sit out a couple of games now, it shouldn't matter in the grand scheme of things, but surely we should be able to finish above Brighton now given our respective fixtures.
Accy end the campaign on a high and deny Pompey a play-off place, Oxford take the final spot.

Re: Today's footie 9/5
Disinterested or uninterested? Disinterested should be used more in the sense of "without a vested interest", ie with the sense of impartial or unbiased, whilst uninterested should be used in the sense of "not showing any interest".

Re: Today's footie 9/5
Tough last 3 for Brighton. We should finish ahead of them now
Re: Today's footie 9/5
I agree with that. Disinterested = Unbiased, impartial. Is how I would use it. But I wouldn't use it instead of the two words I have mentioned. Stan Collymore used to fling it about when he did his commentary bit on radio.Culmclaret wrote: ↑Sun May 09, 2021 12:51 pmUninterested v disinterested is disputed territory. Standard. He’s very error prone and should be nowhere near the England set up.

Fantastic footballer one I hope to see play on the Turf next season all being well, still angry I missed Zlatan through him being injured when United visited the Turf in his one season
