Tonight's football 13/5
Quite surprised looking at the league table that, if Villa get a point tonight, they will be on 49 points only 10 more than us. Considering how much they have spent it shows, again, how well we have done.

Re: Tonight's football 13/5
No problems at Old Trafford but rumours circulating a Liverpool bus, the team bus, has been "kettled" into a sidestreet by Utd "fans" and its tyres let down. *
If this is true, United are in big, big trouble.
* Perhaps they should have paid a fiver to some kids to "Have it looked after, Mister."

And watching Villa it makes you wonder how they have got 48 points...poor side without Grealish
Re: Tonight's football 13/5
I heard that they'd smashed the bus' windows in an effort to force the Glazers out.evensteadiereddie wrote: ↑Thu May 13, 2021 6:47 pmNo problems at Old Trafford but rumours circulating a Liverpool bus, the team bus, has been "kettled" into a sidestreet by Utd "fans" and its tyres let down. *

Radio Manchester saying the protesters outside OT are "on the move" to where the Liverpool team bus would arrive, but as of now, game goes ahead.evensteadiereddie wrote: ↑Thu May 13, 2021 6:47 pmNo problems at Old Trafford but rumours circulating a Liverpool bus, the team bus, has been "kettled" into a sidestreet by Utd "fans" and its tyres let down. *

Edit...now "lots of police" trying to head them off.
Liverpool team now arrived.

Re: Tonight's football 13/5
United should forfeit the points if it can't be played tonight. You could argue that should have happened after the first game.

Re: Tonight's football 13/5
Times has an article today about clubs that have overachieved, comparing 2020 wages (staff costs as reported in accounts) against this season's points as at 12th May. Headline: Bought the title? Analysis shows Manchester City overachieved based on wage billConroysleftfoot wrote: ↑Thu May 13, 2021 6:41 pmQuite surprised looking at the league table that, if Villa get a point tonight, they will be on 49 points only 10 more than us. Leicester, West Ham, City, Villa and Wolves take the top 5 spots - most overachievers. Burnley in 10th underachieving by 3 points. The only problem is, they've not adjusted for the 13 months accounts period, so it's based £100m staff costs.

Re: Tonight's football 13/5
What exactly do these Utd supporters want, their team is probably going to finish 2nd, and could lift the EL in a couple of weeks, I get that they want rid of the owners, but hindering their own teams prospects seems a bizarre way to get their point across.
And if this fixture doesn't go ahead tonight it could have ramifications for the rest of the league, so it's vital that it goes ahead if at all possible, otherwise the whole integrity of the PL is under threat, imagine if Liverpool are awarded a 3-0 win in that scenario, and they then go on to pip somebody else to a CL spot on the final day, if I was a fan of Chelsea, Leicester or West Ham I'd be up in arms at that outcome.

I think everybody should calm down a little. The Liverpool players shown arriving at OT don't look like their coach has been subject to a vicious attack. It's amazing how comments on social media get people fired up.

Re: Tonight's football 13/5
The stats don't lie Steve.
Snippet from the BBC.
Jack Grealish is on the pitch warming up. If the game picks up from where it left off then he needs to be on sooner rather than later.
Villa have a 50% Premier League win rate when he has played this season (11/22) compared to 25% without him (3/12).
And yet even with him they still couldn't beat us this season.

They want a shiny new stadium, or OT invested in.
They want to be the top dogs in England again.
They just want to be able to have their cake and to eat it.

They don't expect much then do they and I' m well aware of the Glazers piling debt on the club, but you can hardly accuse them of not investing in the squad, Utd have the 2nd biggest net spend after City, so it's not like the playing staff isn't being prioritised in recent years is it.GodIsADeeJay81 wrote: ↑Thu May 13, 2021 7:29 pmThey want to be owned by an Oil rich family, or an Abrahamovich type.

You're absolutely right, they do not like the fact that City have the backing they have.

Finished 0-0 in the Villa-Everton borefest, 2 poor teams given the money both have spent.

Would anyone say Villa are any better than us without Grealish?

Re: Tonight's football 13/5
I believe we have a better backfive than Villa and our four strikers are better than theirs. However with Grealish, Barkley, Mcguinn etc they have a better midfield than us. Having a good midfield is paramount in the PL.

Re: Tonight's football 13/5
Exactly. I think they’re taking this follow through thing too literally. Obviously if you take the ball and then plant your studs into the opponents knee then it is endangering the opponent. Harmlessly catching your opponent after playing the ball has never been a foul.Conroysleftfoot wrote: ↑Thu May 13, 2021 9:01 pmTotally right, not a penalty. What is this obsession with the follow through? What is the player supposed to do?

Going all round Twitter that Man Utd are gonna be charged with failing to control their social media rumours.

You have to laugh at every goal conceded when they try to play it out from the back. It's like fashion, somebody says something is 'in' so everybody tries to copy it, even if it is crap. now all the 'great ' coaches play out from the back, so everybody wants to do it. Absolutely hilarious.

As it stands.
6 points between Leicester, Chelsea & Liverpool.
Only 2 goals difference between all 3.
Liverpool have a game in hand still.
Chelsea play Leicester next week, after their FA Cup final.
Could get interesting.

I think the game highlights the deficiencies of the Utd team. Against the lesser teams Fred and McTominay look good but against the top teams they look poor.
