How many Englishmen have won a league championship this season?
Stones, Walker, Sterling & Foden. Guessing Rangers have one or two. Any others?

well done indeed. Not easy at all moving to another country to live and work, never mind achieve success at the highest form of a profession. Cultural changes, lifestyle changes, daily routines, learning a language, etc. On top of that, having to play under a maniac like Simeone, who demands excellence every day I'd hazard a guess, makes this win even more great. Love Tripps as a player and bloke and deserves everything he gets. I don't think they'll have many problems tonight; villadildo will go down too with a loss, they've ****** themselves up too much this year!

Re: Trippier and Atletico Madrid
Money I suspect.
The average PL player is quite possibly better paid than the average player in Europe.
I wouldn't move to a foreign country with all that's involved for less money and no chance of winning s trophy.

Really pleased for him, I hope they do it. What a great experience for him too. Turning into a great career overall.
Re: Trippier and Atletico Madrid
Back in the early 70s, European football really was as far away as it sounded and Atletico Madrid were the worst for kicking Celtic out of the European Cup literally.
Come on Atletico!!!!!!

Hi diamondpocket, have you tried moving to another country to live and work? It's not that difficult if you are used to moving around, even in your own country. Most likely, and Tripps is an example, you will be working in the same profession as you've already experienced in the UK. Learning a new language may be difficult or there can be many countries where learning a new language isn't required. Always better to give the new language a try and, at the very least, learn a few polite/friendly greetings. Travel "broadens the mind." I'd recommend anyone on here to give it a try, if you get the chance.diamondpocket wrote: ↑Sat May 22, 2021 2:36 pmwell done indeed. I've lived and worked in Den Haag and then moved from there to New York. I'm retired now, but would have jumped at the chance for some more opportunities to live and work abroad.

That's been a crazy few minutes. Real have an equaliser disallowed, and then AM score 2 in quick succession.

I remember seeing us in a pre-season friendly at Torquay in 2011. We had two young full backs on loan from Man City that day. I wonder what happened to them?

Re: Trippier and Atletico Madrid
Tripps makes an absolutely massive full-whack interception/tackle right in front of Simeone in like the 93rd minute and Simeone is standing there screaming like King Leonidas in 300. You'd absolutely love to play for that man.

I don't mind Simeone, and anyone who ruffles the feathers of big guns like RM gets my regards, it's always good to see the duopoly broken now and again in Spain. And Simeone has done a hell of a job down the years at AM, and it's great to see someone passionate about football, he definitely wears his heart on his sleeve, and that should be admired.

Re: Trippier and Atletico Madrid
Hi Paul. I have, yeah. Been living and working for the last 15 years more or less. As you said, "IF YOU ARE USED TO IT". It's definitely exciting at first but not easy in my opinion at the beginning. The first couple of years for me were pretty tough to be honest; being away from friends & family, being pretty young, not understanding a word of the language and I had to learn a new job. It might be a bit easier for footballers with the money and lifestyle they have but being in such a high pressure, competitive environment I imagine it aint that easy especially in a new language. I expect Simeone will want to speak Spanish with everyone. As you probably know, with time you get used to it and start to learn. I guess it depends on your character and also the people you meet.Paul Waine wrote: ↑Sat May 22, 2021 5:42 pmHi diamondpocket, have you tried moving to another country to live and work? I would recommend it too, one of the best things I did and probably will never go back to The UK.

Well! he's still only 51 so you might yet get your wish, Spurs could do far worse than covet him, and wasn't he heavily linked to Chelsea a couple of years ago.

Re: Trippier and Atletico Madrid
He’d be perfect at Spurs. Just what they need. I like the PL to have the best managers. In that sense, quite disappointed Wolves have lost Nuno - thought he was a good manager and colourful character.
Re: Trippier and Atletico Madrid
Atletico share a lot of our principles in terms of tactics and setup so its no surprise to see Tripps do well there. A big middle finger to Spurs fans and most of Twitter who don't seem to rate him at all.

A reporter after the game asked Simeone what made them win La Liga, Simeone replied Barcelona giving them Luis Suarez, when the reporter asked if he had a message for Barcelona, he said "Yes, I love them, thank you so much".

Re: Trippier and Atletico Madrid
I don't think there is anyone on here, apart from the Deadwood trolls, that wouldn't like to see him put on the Burnley shirt again, but he's 31 in September and we need to get the average age of our squad down. (We finished the Liverpool game with players averaging over 30.)
The heart says "Please Tripp, come home", but the head says we need someone younger.

Re: Trippier and Atletico Madrid
Players tend to peak aged 27-32 (see Lewandowski breaking records aged 32). For Burnley to stay up year after year (on our budget) we’ll always need the core of our group to be in that age bracket, in their prime. We can’t afford to carry too many young players - they’re inconsistent and on a development curve. One or two younger players (with pace) are needed, I agree, but the age of our squad isn’t an issue in my opinion.Gordaleman wrote: ↑Sun May 23, 2021 1:17 pmI don't think there is anyone on here, apart from the Deadwood trolls, that wouldn't like to see him put on the Burnley shirt again, but he's 31 in September and we need to get the average age of our squad down. Tripps is a player currently operating a level or more above where Burnley or our players have been in my lifetime - winning titles and performing in the Champions League. I think we need that type of player to help move us to the next level.
Re: Trippier and Atletico Madrid
Simeone is often said to be the highest paid manager in the world. If it's not him it will be Guardiola.
As for Tripps speaking Spanish, I haven't got a clue. However, he typifies a "Simeone player". He only wants defenders who will run into a brick wall.

Tripps might be at that level now, but I'm not sure how much longer he will be able to sustain it. I loved Tripps when he was here, but I'm not sure a second spell at his age would help us. Not that it's the be all and end all of selection criteria, but with Walker and Tripps winning titles, and Reece James potentially winning the Champions League next week, you can see why there's rumours of Alexander-Arnold not making the Euros squad

That would worry me a bit too. If he were to come here next summer he’d be 31, turning 32. I think that gives himGordaleman wrote: ↑Sun May 23, 2021 3:08 pmTripps might be at that level now, but I'm not sure how much longer he will be able to sustain it. 2 seasons at or around his peak. So a two year deal with an option for a third year if he plays X games in his last year? Not sure on wages but you’d assume from his previous comments that he wants to come back, so hopefully would take the cut.
He may be thinking for the very last year of his professional career though, in which case it’s not for me - has to be whilst he can make a very positive impression. That Jacob Murphy looks a Burnley player to me (although Leeds now interested allegedly).

Re: Trippier and Atletico Madrid
Are we really saying that a rb starting in a Diego Simeone defence, who has just won La Liga, isn't a player we should be signing if we had the chance? Not to mention one who puts a brilliant cross un, something specific we're lacking on the right side. We'll cripes. He even brings the average age of right backs down if Bards left as a result.
No idea if this is at all feasible, but in principle if we had the chance it's a no brainer.

Best move for Sean Dyche could be abroad.
