Norwich inspired by Burnley
A nice article on BBC from Stuart Webber, the Sporting Director of Norwich, explaining they don't have a lot of funds to work with and teams without a wealthy owner take inspiration from the work done at Burnley and staying in the Premier League so long.

Re: Norwich inspired by Burnley
Interesting to see they may generate 90 million on just 3 player sales. That's a lot.

I think we should help them out by buying one of Buendia or Cantwell actually. That would be very supportive of us

Norwich's advantage is that their Academy and stadium hospitality development is a fair few years ahead of us, we have started from a much lower base but the roadmap has continued to move the club forward, it is incremental but it has and continues to happen

When you take into account some of the players available to them it's little wonder they won their division so comfortably.

Academy - Do you mean in terms of the players it’s identified/brought through? Or in some other ways?Chester Perry wrote: ↑Mon May 31, 2021 1:25 pmNorwich's advantage is that their Academy and stadium hospitality development is a fair few years ahead of us, we have started from a much lower base but the roadmap has continued to move the club forward, it is incremental but it has and continues to happen
Hospitality - in what ways are they ahead? Revenue generation or do you mean in terms of quality? They have got Delia as head chef to be fair...

Re: Norwich inspired by Burnley
Hopefully Norwich will show that you don't have to spend bucket loads to compete at this level, and if a few other clubs can take note of what we've achieved in a substantial manner then all the better for football.
That said if it comes down to us or Norwich staying up then there can only be one winner, and even if the Canaries do spread their wings slightly further than their last attempt, I struggle to see how they can survive without significant incomings, they were totally out of their depth last time and also incredibly naïve, now it's possible that Farke has learned some valuable lessons from that sobering experience and he'll be more pragmatic this time, but it's such a vast gulf between the lower half of the PL and the high end of the Champ. as shown by how easily both Norwich and Watford have sailed back to the promised land at the first attempt, while Fulham & West Brom have slumped miserably in the opposite direction with a whimper.

Re: Norwich inspired by Burnley
Norwich commercial revenue for the season they were in the PL £21 million.
Burnley for the same season - £16 million.
That's despite us being in the PL for a number of years by then

Absolutely, just like we sang down at Charlton and in Athens, there's only one Barry Kilby!Newcastleclaret93 wrote: ↑Mon May 31, 2021 1:57 pmYet our old chairmen still gets slaughtered on here.

True. I think it’s about 350 miles to the nearest civilisation from NorwichGodIsADeeJay81 wrote: ↑Mon May 31, 2021 7:32 pmNorwich have an advantage that there's no other club their size for fecking miles though.

Long journey when you’re stuck behind a tractor for the first thirty miles!!ClaretTony wrote: ↑Mon May 31, 2021 8:15 pmI recall going there one season (I think it was 2001/02) and was talking to some of their fans in a pub. They told me that their closest away game that season was Millwall.

I went away one season on the bus. I remember getting off the motorway and then taking about another six hours! I have never held a wee so long in my life!! Felt like an eternity.ClaretTony wrote: ↑Mon May 31, 2021 8:15 pmI recall going there one season (I think it was 2001/02) and was talking to some of their fans in a pub. I like Norwich - the place, the club, the people. Never so keen repeating that journey!

We overtook a tractor on one trip there and a camera flashed. Our driver was the only Burnley fan who came home with three points.

As someone who lives in Norwich and has quite a few canary mates and in-laws, I’ll be showing them this article. They’re a well run club these days and I hope to be in the away end this season.

Re: Norwich inspired by Burnley
Even though we don't have the exact science for it, 'every' club should look at Burnley and think, yes, that's how you should do it.
Re: Norwich inspired by Burnley
Someone pointed out earlier in the year that the goal stats on Norwich's promotion this year are defensively better then last time:tiger76 wrote: ↑Mon May 31, 2021 4:35 pmHopefully Norwich will show that you don't have to spend bucket loads to compete at this level, and if a few other clubs can take note of what we've achieved in a substantial manner then all the better for football.

They gave away a loot of sloppy goals last time but perhaps they are defensively wiser now.
