He wasn't on the pitch though was he when it was taken initially.

Re: Tonight's football
Wales shouldn't be losing sleep over facing either of these judging by that 1st half, and a stalemate will suit them just fine.
Good ref he doesn't take any nonsense which is refreshing to see, and that dive was ridiculous.
1-0 Italy following a defensive error by the Turks, we might now get a game as Turkey will have to come out now surely,

Re: Tonight's football
Just watched it back and the pass didn’t go back to the kicker so the free kick was awarded for the taking of the corner. So in that case it appears that they did get it wrong. Unless it’s an offence for a player to be stood off the pitch and then receive the ball, which seems unlikely.

Can't really judge off one game, but I'd say Wales would have every chance against Turkey.
Italy would probably be too much for em.

Turkey are terrible.
Re: Tonight's football
That’s how I see it too. And if so it’s an unbelievably bad decision. However I’m not sure on the player being off the field firstRileybobs wrote: ↑Fri Jun 11, 2021 9:19 pmJust watched it back and the pass didn’t go back to the kicker so the free kick was awarded for the taking of the corner. If, for example, the player had been between the goalposts, but slightly over the goal-line, he then moves into the 6 yard area as the corner is taken, heads it into the goal, I think the goal would stand.

Re: Tonight's football
Nothing in the laws for a corner and offside but the player off the field was further forward than the ball so I think the assistant is potentially right to call it offside.Rileybobs wrote: ↑Fri Jun 11, 2021 9:19 pmJust watched it back and the pass didn’t go back to the kicker so the free kick was awarded for the taking of the corner. Re: Tonight's football
Pretty sure that’s not correct. If a player is stood off the pitch but in an offside position then when they enter the pitch to receive the ball they will be offside.Shappie wrote: ↑Fri Jun 11, 2021 9:26 pmThat’s how I see it too. Just a word about the commentators.
I think Mowbray and Jenas are an excellent combination.

Re: Tonight's football
My original thoughts too. But as someone else pointed out you can’t be given offside directly from a corner.ClaretTony wrote: ↑Fri Jun 11, 2021 9:28 pmNothing in the laws for a corner and offside but the player off the field was further forward than the ball so I think the assistant is potentially right to call it offside.

Re: Tonight's football
From The Laws of the Game
"No offence
There is no offside offence if a player receives the ball directly from:
a goal kick
a throw-in
a corner kick"

Re: Tonight's football
First half I wasn’t too impressed as they seemed to be rushing the final ball or taking pot shots from distance. As the game’s gone on they’ve looked impressive. But you’re right that it’s hard to gauge just how good they are against such a poor opposition. This win will give them a big boost though.ClaretTony wrote: ↑Fri Jun 11, 2021 9:38 pmI can’t make my mind up on Italy given how poor Turkey are

Turkey aren’t a bad side. They’re playing a good side and tried to park the bus. When you don’t get the rub of the green you look tired and poor. Very like us vs City.

Re: Tonight's football
Italy look a solid outfit, but the Welsh should delight in playing the Turks on that dire showing, they didn't even manage a single shot on target.Winstonswhite wrote: ↑Fri Jun 11, 2021 9:18 pmYou’re joking aren’t you? Wales will get battered by both these sides
9 games without conceding for Italy now that's some run they're on, and they'll be hard to beat come the latter stages of the tournament on that display, what really impressed me about the Italians was their desire to win the ball back, that's not a typical Italian approach, but this team certainly seem to be thriving under Mancini.
