Burnley One Game in Time
Supporting the clarets nearly sixty years now, living over 160 miles away, if you could watch just one game back in time what would it be, 1968/69 season for me burnley 5 v leeds united 1, that result shocked a few people.

Would have to be the 1-1 draw away at Crewe in early 97. Think it might have been Barnes who grabbed the late equaliser that day

Re: Burnley One Game in Time
Hmmm good question.
I’d go for the win at Maine road to clinch the title.

I’ll have to be greedy and say both the Napoli games from 1967...First leg 3 0 home and of course the infamous riot or near riot second leg 0 0 away...

I was at the 5-1 v Leeds aged 7 and can vaguely remember being on a packed Beehole End with my dad and seeing Ralph Coates play brilliantly so, yes, that would be good.I'd also like to relive the atmosphere and genuine mass euphoria of that night at the Madejski in 2009.

So many great games to look back on, but the Wembley win to achieve our dream has got to be up there UTC.

Leeds 1 Burnley 4..... for me...and watch it on tv to avoid the scary walk back to Leeds city train station..such a shame about the fa cup semi the week after.
Up the Clarets.

Re: Burnley One Game in Time
From a purely personal level. Burnley 1 Reading 0 in October 2008. The last game I went on with my Dad. I went away for work after that and didn't get on another game with him before his untimely death in January 2010.
Poignant memory for me that game as we had a rare heart to heart after the game. Almost as though he knew then what was coming.
So yeah. I'd go back and relive that day and tell him the things I didn't get to say.

Was a similar 'Russian Roulette" walk as the one at Wolves when we went down.
But that's the game I'd pick.
They spent big parts of the game trying to kick us off the park because they couldn't beat us at footy.
We all know how it ended with Frank.
I've despised them ever since that day.

Both the Leeds games mentioned would be in my top 5 but as a youngster one game sticks in my mind and I’d love to see it all again. 1963 Boxing Day . Burnley 6.Man Utd 1.
Lockheed got 4 and Willie Morgan 2.

One for me that doesn't get too much of a mention is the 5-1 drubbing of a very good Spurs team in Sept '67, great times.
Re: Burnley One Game in Time
1-4 versus Spurs in the league Cup at White Hart Lane, when we were Div 3 or equivalent.

Shutting the Bastuds up about how long since we beat them, or Reading.

Re: Burnley One Game in Time
Far too many memorable wins but I’ll go with a draw.
FA Cup. Jan.’73 0-0, Liverpool at home. They went on to win the First Div., we won Second Div.
Outstanding game where we more than held our own against an exceptional side.

PNE SVT 2nd leg for me, or the 3-1 victory at Plymouth when Johnny Francis run them ragged and shut their gobby fans up.

Re: Burnley One Game in Time
I'd actually go for Burnley 1 v 0 Man Utd the first home game in the Premier League Robbie Blakes volley, Jensen's penalty save and just beating that lot.
Loads of others, Derby FA Cup J M's C & B Army
Luton away Akinbiyi Hat trick
Madejski that night
Wembley 2010 my daughters birthday and the promised land achieved
Wembley V Wolves 80,000 plus for two crap teams!
But beating United that night, 1 was still buzzing 4/5 hours later when I got home!

I’d go to the Orient game. It’d be hell, but necessary.
Or….
The fogged off game at Derby, for what happened in the stands, not on the pitch!

It's hard to judge games before our time but I would love to have been at the FA cup final we won.

Re: Burnley One Game in Time
Surely it has to be a game before your own time? I'd go with the game that won us the league in the 60s, or as mentioned above, when we won the FA Cup.
Outcomes aside, just being able to experience what a football match used to be like compared to now would be a great experience. I hope they can recreate moments like that in VR freely in the future.
