They’ve spent big have Brighton and they are doing their best to hang on to players. They’ve turned down a £40m offer today from Arsenal for Ben White.Newcastleclaret93 wrote: ↑Wed Jun 16, 2021 3:43 pmTo be fair they look a hell of a lot better than Brighton. No different to Chelsea or City running around signing lots of players when they first came into money.
At some point they'll settle down and shop smarter, but they'll carry on inflating the prices of players who we'd normally be interested in.

Rather worrying sign if the transfer fees are going to be that high I think
Re: Summer 2021 Transfer Window Rumours - Links - Discussion
Regards Young, we rarely can compete with other premier league teams regards a package, we just have to do with what's left or with what others dont want/need.
Not that I would want us to complete for Young and break our ceiling to land him.
But how many players, managers or agents will make public we are in for them, alerting other teams and in turn allowing them to get a better offer from elsewhere.
Generally if we are interested and have a chance, it another club can move in offer more and gazump us.

Lots of money being spent at the upper end , which puts huge pressure on the respective managers as evidenced by the managerial changes at Spurs and Chelsea. At the end of the day, only one team can win the PL title and only four teams qualify for the Champions League. Great thing about us is if we survive relegation its almost as good as winning a trophy

Perhaps I'm jumping the gun here, but a few things already don't seem quite right. There's a lot of talk about different things, but precious little action. I'm thinking about transfers and Dyche's supposed signing of a new contract.
Not unlike the January window where lots of words were uttered, but we ended up fruitless. Still buckets of time remaining, but I'm getting an uneasiness so far.

Usually you need 1 thing to happen as a catalyst for the other thing to happen, personally I don’t envisage any signings until the other part becomes clearer, dyche extending first, it’s only natural when that’s out of the way & he becomes further committed then he can focus on the job at hand at getting people through the door.ksrclaret wrote: ↑Wed Jun 16, 2021 5:42 pmPerhaps I'm jumping the gun here, but a few things already don't seem quite right. The season starts on 14th August. I would hope we’ve done most, if not all, of our business by then. I can’t believe anyone would have expected anything to have happened by today some 59 days before the season starts. Amazed you’ve even linked those comments. Thanks for decent reply, Jakub. You are correct, we probably are just waiting for the catalyst. Not sure where Dyche signing a new contract will fit into things, if indeed he is going to. Seems to be a little like the chicken and the egg at the moment.Jakubclaret wrote: ↑Wed Jun 16, 2021 6:21 pmUsually you need 1 thing to happen as a catalyst for the other thing to happen, personally I don’t envisage any signings until the other part becomes clearer, dyche extending first, it’s only natural when that’s out of the way & he becomes further committed then he can focus on the job at hand at getting people through the door.

If it’s a sensible well constructed post then it’s more likely a “decent reply” will be forthcoming, sadly that’s not always the case but that’s by the by. Signings I think will naturally follow dyches extension if he does extend, he’ll be more focused & secure in his future, why would he sanction signings or proactively engage when he’s not even sure if he’s stopping on?

There are many, many other clubs who haven’t signed anyone yet and they also need to find a manager at the same time. The euros have started so the best in Europe are focused on that and there is not a deadline for us to sign contracts with managers.

Re: Summer 2021 Transfer Window Rumours - Links - Discussion
Forget about Brighton, the interesting club in the equation is Vfb Stuttgarttiger76 wrote: ↑Wed Jun 16, 2021 11:43 amNever heard of this chap. but it would be typical of Brighton to sign a forward who struggles to score, and there's been many who've impressed in the Bundesliga and struggled to make the transition to the PL, this looks a lot compared to say Ollie Watkins who went for only a slight amount more last year, and who has justified his price tag at Villa.
Maybe he'll prove a surprise package next season, but I have my doubts, and at that money he may well prove to be an expensive flop.
As we meet them on day 1 we'll soon find out.
Two years ago Stuttgart were a complete shambles. They had just been relegated, they had no money and a toxic environment. It was a complete basket case of a club.
After one year they won automatic promotion back to the Bundesliga and last season they finished in a very credible 9th position. Had they not been ravaged by injuries they would have placed even higher.
More impressively they have completely rebuilt their squad in the space of two short years and now they have a growing number of quality players, with an average squad age of 24.
The financial cost of doing all of that, in respect to transfer fees, was roughly minus £45m. Or to put it another way they made a profit of £45m purely from transfers. More importantly a large number of their retained players have sky rocketed in value.
Looking at the business they have already done, ahead of their new season and before their window actually opens, they look set to increase their transfer profits even further.
A couple of weeks ago they sold Gregor Kobel for a reputed £13.5m, having bought him last year for £6.50m. To fill the void they are currently negotiating to buy Florian Muller for £3.5m, but Mainz are trying to hold out for a reputed £5m. And now they are on the verge of selling Gonzalez for £25m. A player they bought two years ago for £1.5m.
The difference is that they employed a technical director with a proven performance record instead of a technical director with a history of catastrophic performances.
In two years they have gone from rock bottom to being in a much stronger position than us. They could be looking at a transfer sale profit of £80m in two years. In direct comparison our recruitment, under the direction of Captain Cluster ****, has delivered us the square route of **** all. We are in a far worse financial position than we were in 3 years ago with a weaker team.
No winging about taking time to put things in place, no claptrap about bargains not existing, no stop gap veterans on high wages, no excuses about transfer windows being difficult or the shifting sands making it too hard to do business, just positive and very profitable action.
We should have made space for Sven Mislintat and snapped him up when he quit Arsenal for not keeping their promises. Instead we endured five poor transfer windows, watched our forward momentum evaporate, made ourselves easy prey for a cashless takeover, lost millions as a result of bad strategic decision making and fostered a toxic environment. Oh, and we are up to our necks in debt without a pot to **** in.
Good technical directors ( who are few and far between ) can quickly make millions for a club, bad technical directors generally cost a club millions in poor transfers and missed opportunities. The reason Brighton have spent £250m to little effect is that they hired Dan Asworth from the FA comfort zone as their technical director in 2018. Another clown, albeit nowhere near as bad as the one working for us.
The only person to come out of the FA in recent times that actually is worth hiring is our very own Dave Baldwin. Granted he isn't a recruitment specialist, but if we can dump Rigg, put Dyche firmly in charge of recruitment ( with Baldwin doing the operational grunt work and fighting the good financial sense corner ) we might actually start moving forwards again instead of backwards.

When there’s a major tournament on such as Euro 2020 traditionally there’s less movement with players, also things tend to pick up on 1st July when players become free agents. Nothing to worry about at the moment.
Never really understood the hype around Young, not one bit bothered about him going to Villa. I’m sure he’ll be a workhorse but we’ve got a team full of that type of player, we need some pace and creativity and gile to get us scoring more.

Given the financial climate everyone is looking for free transfers and cost effective deals. Very few clubs sat around waiting for the window to open before they started doing business. A lot of them starting trading back in May.
If we don't have any money to spend and we are reliant on income from sales or free transfers then we are already miles behind.
The other possibility is that we will, as Chester Perry, pointed out in one of his posts, buy players on the tick - opting to pay over a few years. I think we are probably looking to do a bit of both. Save money with some cheap fillers and then try to spend on a couple of bigger signings ( probably after we have sold a player or two ). Unfortunately it could easily turn out like our previous two Summer windows, we bring in the cheap stop gaps ( on high wages and 2 year contracts ) fail to sign the first team improvers and then sign a crappy " better than nothing " make weight at the end of the window.
I'm not saying it will be easy, because it won't. Our poor recruitment performance in the past five windows has caught up with us and we will pay the price. We effectively shot ourselves in both feet.
We can't afford premium European players with National Team appearances, so work permits will be hard to come by. That means we will be largely limited to the domestic market or domestic players who previously moved abroad. A smaller pool of players to pick from means higher prices are demanded and choices are limited ( supply vs demand ). On top of that other clubs picked up all of the good bargains last Summer and they signed the players they wanted to keep ( or sell for higher prices ) up to new long term contracts.
Rob Dickie at 2.5m, Scott McKenna at £3m+, Niclas Eliasson at £3m and Ryan Manning at 250K would be looking very attractive now.
The work permit issue won't affect the wealthier clubs, because they are buying from the top shelves. So the players that they are looking at will be higher up the quality scale and probably good candidates for work permits. They might even be cheaper, because they will be outside of the supply v demand bubble.
Sadly, that means a high value player like Tarks ( if he is sold ) won't get a value boost. He is obviously domestic, but he will still be in the top shelf category and clubs capable of paying his price will have many other options which will force his price down. On top of that he only has one year left on his contract and anyone that read our accounts knows we are cash poor. He tried to do right by us last year, stating his desire to move and giving us ample time to buy a replacement so we could cash in a £30m+.
However, by the time we started looking for replacements it was far to late in the window to contemplate selling him ( it would have meant relegation at that point ). Not buying a replacement quickly and not selling him early probably cost us £15-20m - in terms of his lower value now and the higher value we will have to pay for a suitable replacement.
Secondly. everyone knows that we desperately need to buy players in this window, so they can happily price gouge us.
A small pool of potential targets, higher prices for domestic players and desperation = our first truly difficult window.
The other five windows weren't difficult at all, we just screwed them up, and kicking the can down the road has caught up with us as it always does. Given our decision not to do anything in the last Winter window we should have been a lot quicker off the mark for this window - but it seems like we have learnt nothing ( again ).
All we have heard about are links to a veteran left back ( who we shouldn't have been interested in, but given the limited choice we are faced with wasn't entirely daft ) and £12-15m for a young defender with potential who has only played half a season in the Championship.
Collins missed half of the season through injuries and of the 22 matches he played only 12 of them were as a centre back. Only 8 of those were for the full 90 minutes. The remaining 10 games he played as a right back. We could use some flexibility, but £12-£15m on the basis of 12 or so matches is a bit of a risk when we don't have much money to spend. I saw him play in the 18/19 season and he was nothing special. He has improved a lot this year, but anyone thinking he is a " ready to rock " replacement for Tarks is miles off. Definitely, one to consider if we had time to bring him on, but if we sell Tarks we don't.

Isn’t Dyche one of the stumbling blocks to our poor transfer record over the past half dozen windows? He wants a very particular type of player.
I agree the road we should go down is one with a director of football/ technical director who can scout the up and coming players before anyone else is on to them, or the rough diamonds. Shine them up and move them on for huge profits.

Don't understand why it takes so long to get championship players over the line to play in the premiership ?? Apart from the 3 relegated clubs what's the problem ?? One thing for sure no matter how many years we have been continually a premiership club we don't even have any clout in the championship !!!!!!! We struggle with the west broms, forest, Stoke - would we even get Barnsleys best player over line ??

What is attractive about signing players who aren't good enough? If we sign a bunch of bang average Championship players there's a good chance we'll end up there. I've never understood the buzz on here around Eliasson, do people just fall in love with newspaper rumored players without even watching them play?Long Time Lurker wrote: ↑Wed Jun 16, 2021 10:11 pm
Rob Dickie at 2.5m, Scott McKenna at £3m+, Niclas Eliasson at £3m and Ryan Manning at 250K would be looking very attractive now.

We need a couple to come in and make a real difference, not spunking fortunes on average Championship players who wont feature.

Who would you go for within our realistic range?
I can’t really see many players in the championship improving us. Maybe a couple at Bournemouth and reading but not much else.
