I'm really not sure on Phillips. He's 24, has hardly played much first team football and where Liverpool pluck these valuations from I don't know!! However, if we end up getting him as well as Collins and that's who the manager wants then that's fine by me.
We haven't really been linked with a winger yet (Brathwaite apart) and we need at least two of those!

He should improve a lot then, the more he plays the better positioning and reading of the game.Jakubs Tash wrote: ↑Wed Jun 23, 2021 3:55 pmI'm really not sure on Phillips. Most CHs improve after 24 and peak around 29/30

I do think Collins looks good value given his age and pedigree though.

Re: Phillips career path.
Below is his wiki page which shows he went out on a season loan to Stuttgart(Bundesliga2) but was recalled due to injuries. As I pointed out to KRBFC, further back, he did get MoM ont’Turf. This would be an excellent signing and with our coaching he will only get better.

Isn't this the same guy who failed to impress at Boro some years backRBFC wrote: ↑Wed Jun 23, 2021 1:03 pmBurnley being linked with a move for Barcelona striker Martin Braithwaite by Diario Sport

Martin Braithwaite may be one of Barça's surprise sales this summer. The footballer already knows through his environment that he must leave the Blaugrana club yes or yes after the signings of Depay and Kun Agüero and his first intention was to try to fight for a place in the squad, but Barça has already told him that no will have minutes. The Eurocup has been a good showcase for the Danish and up to four English clubs have already asked about Braithwaite's situation, although an offer that comes from Russia may also be being studied.
Braithwaite signed for Barça in February 2020 and after an injury crisis. The Blaugrana club paid the 18 million euros of its termination clause, although the club always made it clear that it would be an emergency solution and that a way out should be sought in the future. The pandemic made its transfer impossible last summer despite the fact that there were also transfer proposals and this year should be the final one. The clear objective of the club is to recover a good part of the 18 million euros invested.
The Danish attacker is having a good European Championship, where he starts with Denmark despite playing more heeled at the winger position. His performance has been excellent and several English clubs believe that it may be a good signing opportunity. West Ham, Brighton, Burnley and the recently promoted Norwich are on the prowl, but Barça have also opened a negotiating channel with a Russian club that can bear fruit as long as the Dane accepts the operation.
As stated above he was a panic buy and i also seem to remember his agent also got him a very good contract which could put him way out of our reaches

If we got the 2 lads in and kept Tarks, could we see a change in formation occasionally?jedi_master wrote: ↑Wed Jun 23, 2021 3:17 pmIf we get Collins and Phillips/Worrall in, whilst also keeping Tarky till his contract expires (for me, a better option than £10m or so, if that is the alternative) then that is a fantastic start to business!
If we show the same enthusiasm a bit further forward down the pitch in the rest of the window to that, I would be beyond delighted. I thought pre window we needed four in and I stand by that (two centre backs, a right winger and another central midfield option).
3 at the back for example?

Potentially looking at a 3-5-2?mill hill claret wrote: ↑Wed Jun 23, 2021 1:40 pmWhat if we sign these two centre backs and tarkowski then decides to sign another contract ? We could potentially be left with another gibson scenario
We’re devoid of wingers as it is, and a 3-5-2 gives us both the three in the middle to compete, and 2 up top which obviously Dyche favours.

I’d convinced myself he was the one who’d signed from PNE! Just realised that was Ben Davies. Did Davies get injured because I don’t remember him playing. I thought Phillips looked decent when I saw him.minnieclaret wrote: ↑Wed Jun 23, 2021 4:12 pmRe: Phillips career path.

Rumour has it that Jimmy Dunne is off.
Also, I wonder what will happen to Bobby Thomas if we sign 2 young defenders?

it would not surprise me if it was Scotland - the transfer would be much cheaper for them (fixed price I think) than it would be in this country as he is under 24 and was offered a contract which means it would go to panel if clubs do not agree the fee.

I suspect given what Dyche said recently is that if he opts not to sign his new deal at Burnley then he'll be going to a Championship club.

I must be missing something here, people don’t rate Phillips at 24 despite a MOM performance vs us at turf last year, has potential to fulfil but yet most got excited over signing a 36 yr old Ashley Young. I know they not the same position but I know which I’d take in a heartbeat. Phillips would suit us perfectly, big and strong, good in the air, I just don’t see why he wouldn’t be an amazing addition.

You'd be a good negotiator in football manager Vegas. The one I often go for is 50 goals in the season or a huge non playing clause for a player I play week in week out!Vegas Claret wrote: ↑Wed Jun 23, 2021 6:39 pmthat will be with the add ons I would imagine

Re: Summer 2021 Transfer Window Rumours - Links - Discussion
It looks as though a Goalkeeper is on the list of Sean’s targets during the summer.
After being linked with Robin Olsen yesterday we are now being linked with Jiri Pavlenka from Werder Bremen with a 3 million euro bid due in the next few days
https://www.bild.de/sport/fussball/fuss ... .bild.html
Jiri Pavlenka (29) had to cancel his participation in the European Championship for the Czech Republic due to a back injury in the national team. The disappointing end of a season in which Bremen's No. 1 was relegated to the 2nd division with Werder.
Now Pavlenka can hope that he will remain first class himself ...
Because a move to the island should become very concrete in the next few days, according to BILD information. Premier League club Burnley (17th place in relegation) has put out feelers for the Bremen goalkeeper. According to reports, a 3 million offer will arrive at Werder in the next few days.
However, 3 million euros is far from what Werder envisions. The fee for Pavlenka is estimated at 5.5 million (transfermarkt.de). It is questionable whether manager Frank Baumann would accept such an offer. After all, with Stefanos Kapino (last loan to Sandhausen) he would have the right replacement on hand.
For Pavlenka, a move to the 73,000-inhabitant city of Burnley in the north of England may not be a big hit, but it will still be attractive.
He would have good prospects of a regular place in the club of national team colleague and European Championship driver Matej Vydra. At Werder he could not recommend himself for a top club after average performance this season.

Basically a goalkeeper who is capable of staying match sharp despite rarely getting a game (barring a serious injury to No1), This may not suit every goalkeeper.
If we are looking for another GK it could be to let BPF go on loan to get more game time. Unlike you, I haven't learned that he is not PL standard, or at least capable of achieving it.

I agree, it’s strange how some of us have resigned ourselves to the concept that 2 players 24 years & 27 years aren’t PL standard based on a few games & also the assumption that any sort of improvement is beyond them whilst being so young, in BPF case he hasn’t even reached mid twenties yet, it’s more than conceivable that he could have another 15 years ahead left in the professional game.boatshed bill wrote: ↑Thu Jun 24, 2021 9:29 amI think the No2 GK is the trickiest position in the squad.

Someone like Begovic would be good cover for a year while we send BPF on loan foe a yearwarksclaret wrote: ↑Thu Jun 24, 2021 9:23 amI hope Pope is staying. What we sadly learned last season is that both Norris and Bailey are not PL standard, and in the PL you need a good Number 2 GK, just as every other PL has got one for a reason
