Match prediction England v Germany
Well the time has arrived. The biggest game for England since the World Cup semi final 3 years ago.
I can only think of Brazil v Argentina to match the excitement of an England v Germany international game.
It would be a disappointing failure in my book if Gareth Southgate’s team went out in the last 16 of what is regarded as the second biggest tournament in the world for European teams.
It is however never a disgrace to lose to any German team and we have had plenty of practice in the big tournaments since we beat them in the World Cup Final over 50 years ago.
However this is not one of the best German teams we have ever faced and that is giving some fans hope. The burning question for me is whether we are ready this time.
Southgate has some big questions tonight will he find the answers ? He does not carry the whole nation behind him he has the solid backing of the FA.
Is it conceivable that Harry Kane will leave the tournament without scoring? The answer to that could determine our progress into the quarter finals and beyond.
While my head tells me a German win will follow my heart tells me that this time it’s not going to be broken again against Germany .
Only yesterday underdogs Croatia and Switzerland demonstrated that there is no need to be scared of any team , no matter how big the name.

0-0
Got to be after the blockbusters last evening.
Just edited to say that in Germany they don't really see playing England as a massive event. Obviously it is a Tournament and fans will be watching but it isn't hyped up with media frenzy.

If Grealish starts 2-1 England. If not, a narrow win for the Germans.

Re: Match prediction England v Germany
I just know that after the excitement and thrills of yesterday’s games that this is going to be a dull affair. I haven’t seen anything from England that suggests I can get my hopes up. Bar 20 minutes in the last game, we’ve been mind-numbingly boring.
Of course I hope I’m wrong, but the Germans, even when below par, are efficient.

We're winning.
1-0, and relatively comfortable

Re: Match prediction England v Germany
Woke up with a good feeling. Burnley have always won when I have this feeling so hope it covers England. 3-1.
Regards the post further up. Not sure the Germans are our rivals but seem to be our nemesis in tournaments since 1970. The Germans would probably feel as we feel if we kept knocking them out. Get the monkey off our back and move on.
I've always seen Scotland as our rivals much as the Germans and Dutch seem to have a proper rivalry.

Re: Match prediction England v Germany
We have every chance. And we have to make home advantage and expectation count for us not against us.
Contrary to popular belief though despite our attacking talent this isn’t the golden generation. It’s a team of great young players with potential and fearlessness.
But. Look at the side that got thrashed in South Africa.
I think Terry. A Cole. Gerrard. Lampard. Barry. Milner. Carrick. Rooney. And J Cole. All get in this side.
But I think the thing this team has is energy. Fearlessness. Togetherness. Pace.
Going for 1-1 but could easily be surprised both ways.
Hoping for a Holland 96.

I hope I'm wrong, but Germany by the odd goal ...
Re: Match prediction England v Germany
when you say odd, do you mean one that doesn't cross the line but is given; or a 60 yard worldie that hits the bar, then smacks Pickford in the back of the head to go in...
Re: Match prediction England v Germany
A tight game and hopefully not dull and slow. 1-2 AET

1-1 pens and i think you all know what will happen after that .
Re: Match prediction England v Germany
We can beat them, of course we can. We must score at least a couple though to do it, because they have a good attack
Re: Match prediction England v Germany
The predicted lineup is as depressing as we all knew it would be.

1:1, no goals in extra time. England loose on penalties.
Though I must admit, in my dreams we do beat them on penalties.
Then I think no, it's the Germans, it's one of the laws of the Universe.
The Germans always beat the English if it comes down to penalties.

Re: Match prediction England v Germany
I see what you're saying r.e the 2010 team, but the midfield is a lot worse than it appears on paper. There is a chronic lack of width and pace there with Milner, Barry, Gerrard, Carrick, Cole and Lampard. Capello just didn't seem to know what to do with the players available. Matthew Upson and David James were never of a class good enough for a World Cup either.cricketfieldclarets wrote: ↑Tue Jun 29, 2021 8:37 amWe have every chance. I think the fearlessness is the big thing with this team as you say - yes, it hasn't been exactly 'Total Football' so far, but they're solid, professional and have the pace to bail themselves out of trouble when they make mistakes.

Re: Match prediction England v Germany
Germany are vulnerable defensively only keeping 3 clean sheets in their last 17 fixtures with even the likes of Latvia, North Macedonia and N Ireland scoring against them.
However, Germany normally score as since the World Cup they have played 32 matches failing to find the back of the net in only 3 of them, twice against France and once versus Spain.
The Best Bet is probably Both Teams To Score.

Agree on that also. There is a distinct lack of balance and as you say speed. What I meant was that all of those individuals are better than their respective individuals in this current side. But as Italy and Germany often show. It’s not the individuals it’s the system first.jedi_master wrote: ↑Tue Jun 29, 2021 9:29 amI see what you're saying r.e the 2010 team, but the midfield is a lot worse than it appears on paper. Re: Match prediction England v Germany
Think it was Ian Wright that summed it up early in the tournament, the German's always do it when they have to do, that's down to their mentality, we just don't have that, hope I'm wrong but 2-1 Germany. Or of course 1-1 and a German win on penalties.

If we play the predicted team we'll get hammered as there's no midfield. Gareth does like a 7-0-3 formation though

Re: Match prediction England v Germany
Why all the negativity, we're playing at Wembley with a decent crowd on, and this isn't exactly one of the great German teams is it.
England can definitely cause their defence problems, so 2-1 England although it might take ET to prevail.
And the prize is big for the winners of today's game, because there's every chance the victors today will go all the way to the final at the very least, so a huge opportunity for England to finally step up at the Euro's, and we may not get a better chance of clinching the trophy for many years after this, so let's hope these players can seize the day and make themselves heroes.

If we go for a back three, then my team would be:
GK: Pickford
DCR: Walker
DC: Maguire
DCL: Stones
RWB: Trippier (Absolute must to play as our set pieces and deliveries are shocking without him)
LWB: Shaw/Saka (Can't decide, but as a wingback perhaps Saka)
CM: Rice
CM: Foden
RW: Sterling
LW: Sancho
ST: Kane
GK: Pickford

If that did transpire it really would show how clueless the FA are, but the FA are clueless, so you may well be correct.NottsClaret wrote: ↑Tue Jun 29, 2021 11:09 am2-1 to Germany. Followed by a 3 year contract extension for Southgate.
