Today's Game
Re: Today's Games
Great first-half. Excellent football played at a breakneck pace. Second-half inevitably less frenetic as Italy looked to hold on to their lead. Three of the main pre-tournament favourites gone (France, Portugal and Belgium).

Re: Today's Games
Having watched just the 20 minute highlights. I’ll just say this, the Italian player going down “injured” trying to get a penalty, Italy score, up he jumps and runs to join in the celebration.
The penalty, first look I thought no, from the reverse angle, yes. Shoulder in the back, enough to impede him.
Then after the final whistle, all those players hugging and kissing fans should now go into mandatory isolation for 10 days. If I was Spain, I’d refuse to play against them.

Who’s worried? If Ukraine beat us, they beat us. It’s not the end of the world. Spain v Italy, don’t really care.
Would I like England to win, course I do. If they don’t, they don’t. What will be will be.

Re: Today's Games
True enough, Rammy, and in spite of some media efforts to persuade us we're already in the semis, Iwe have to be so careful tonight.
I'm expecting the usual cagey start to see what we're dealing with - Ukraine' will be up for this as never before - and if that goes well we go for another "double tap" like we did against the Germans. No changes to the England side unless there are injuries with Grealish to come on and cause havoc.
The Danes might be great, the Czechs possibly bouncing but either way, that should be a cracking game. Vydra to score the winner, of course.

We are massive favourites tonight there is no getting away from that. We're higher ranked, have better players all over the pitch and have the upper-hand I'm head-to-head.evensteadiereddie wrote: ↑Sat Jul 03, 2021 9:36 amTrue enough, Rammy, and in spite of some media efforts to persuade us we're already in the semis, Iwe have to be so careful tonight.

Of course all of that guarantees nothing in a one-off knock out game but you can't blame people for getting ahead of themselves.

Balague: "You look at the papers and the coverage in England, you see talk of the final, when you are still in the quarter-finals. Does any other country do this? It is only England. That is a lack of respect for Ukraine."
Basically the majority of supporters think we have just to turn up and we'll be in the semi-finals.

Yes, for the reasons I said above. I'm sure the team won't be complacent but there's every reason for fans to be feeling confident.Spijed wrote: ↑Sat Jul 03, 2021 11:56 amI posted this yesterday, taken from the BBC:

I got the bug while the teams were walking out for the Germany game and have been pumped for this England journey since that moment. Love the feeling of getting swept up in it all. Been watching some England highlights over the years this morning. Really in the mood now.

Re: Today's Games
And that is what it's all about - within reason. Ukraine should be beaten but it's tournament football and they will want to do well even more desperately so than the Scots did. We should be wary to a point.
I just hope the best side wins and it's not cheating or crappy reffing that decides it.

This attitude must put enormous pressure on the team, "England epects" and all that

Re: Today's Games
I don’t think anyone thinks that all we have to do is to turn up and we’ll win, and the players certainly won’t. If we have an off day we’ll more than likely be punished. But there’s no harm in ‘daring to dream’, similarly to when our fans may have considered promotion to the Premier League when we were sat at the top of the table with a few games to play.

I think Southgate’s party pooper comment immediately after the German games dispels any idea that the England team will take Ukraine for granted
I think England fans are very expectant though

I think it's the fans' expectations that worry me. Fortunately, there won't be too many there to embarrass us if we find them difficult to break down.
