I would expect he's shown enough to the powers that be, that he will be capable of being included in a match day eighteen. Good luck to the lad.

I think his age means he would have to be one of the 25 man squad for premier league gamesonewillieirvine wrote: ↑Fri Jul 09, 2021 11:50 amI would expect he's shown enough to the powers that be, that he will be capable of being included in a match day eighteen. Good luck to the lad.

Re: ARTICLE: Nartey signs new Turf Moor deal
Sounds like he might be going out on loan again judging by that interview, if Tarks stays I can't see him getting much action in our 1st team, so a decent loan might be best for all parties, Nartey is 22 now, and he really needs to start getting more league experience, ideally at Championship level if we can, but if not then a decent League 1 team will suffice.

He got 25 League One games with Burton in 2019/20 up to the season ending in March. A loan out might be beneficial.tiger76 wrote: ↑Fri Jul 09, 2021 12:33 pmSounds like he might be going out on loan again judging by that interview, if Tarks stays I can't see him getting much action in our 1st team, so a decent loan might be best for all parties, Nartey is 22 now, and he really needs to start getting more league experience, ideally at Championship level if we can, but if not then a decent League 1 team will suffice.

Yes that's my thinking, 25 league games isn't a lot for a 22 year old these days, and assuming we hold onto Tarks he'll be behind Mee, Tarks, Collins, Kev Long in the pecking order, and even a cup appearance would be unlikely, it's fine playing in the PL2, but it can't have the same intensity as a FL game would create, and there's only one way to gain vital 1st team experience, and that's to play games at whatever level, obviously the higher the better as far as BFC is concerned, but he needs to go out on loan somewhere in my view, Accy or Morecambe would be useful for us to be able to monitor his progress close to home, and we do seem to have good relations with both those clubs after recent loan deals, so that might be a viable avenue should he and Burnley wish him to gain valuable experience at a decent level.ClaretTony wrote: ↑Fri Jul 09, 2021 1:58 pmHe got 25 League One games with Burton in 2019/20 up to the season ending in March. Re: ARTICLE: Nartey signs new Turf Moor deal
I tend to agree this may well be a likely avenue for Nartey, but at the end of it we will have a 23 year old with 50 League One games under his belt, as opposed to what we have now, a 22 year old with 20 League One games on his CV. Will he be any more likely to be good enough to play in the Premier League ? Im not trying to be disrepectful to Nartey by the way, more wondering what as a club we're hoping to achieve with players of his age.tiger76 wrote: ↑Fri Jul 09, 2021 2:05 pmYes that's my thinking, 25 league games isn't a lot for a 22 year old these days, and assuming we hold onto Tarks he'll be behind Mee, Tarks, Collins, Kev Long in the pecking order, and even a cup appearance would be unlikely, it's fine playing in the PL2, but it can't have the same intensity as a FL game would create, and there's only one way to gain vital 1st team experience, and that's to play games at whatever level, obviously the higher the better as far as BFC is concerned, but he needs to go out on loan somewhere in my view, Accy or Morecambe would be useful for us to be able to monitor his progress close to home, and we do seem to have good relations with both those clubs after recent loan deals, so that might be a viable avenue should he and Burnley wish him to gain valuable experience at a decent level.

Whether he'll be good enough to command a PL place is doubtful, but I guess if he's in the shop window so to speak then the club will perhaps hope to recoup a modest fee for him ala Jimmy Dunne come the end of this season, I've never seen him in action so I can't really comment on his attributes, but given the fact we've snapped up Collins would suggest to me that we don't feel any of our own youngsters are yet up to competing for a first XI spot.randomclaret2 wrote: ↑Fri Jul 09, 2021 3:32 pmI tend to agree this may well be a likely avenue for Nartey, but at the end of it we will have a 23 year old with 50 League One games under his belt, as opposed to what we have now, a 22 year old with 20 League One games on his CV. Players mature at different rates. I think Richard will make it into the 1st team squad and subsequently the team. He’s a quality footballer.
Perhaps the club are looking post Mee/Tarks and having Collins/Narty/Thomas as the three with Long signing yet another three year deal to take him into his 24th year with the club

This.
And if you read up on Nartey's pathway through academy football I think he's probably a few years of development behind the average 22 year old footballer. I don't mean that in a negative way, I mean his development was probably delayed a couple of years meaning he's earlier in the development journey and a higher ceiling.

I think he went into further education, a degree perhaps.Mattster wrote: ↑Fri Jul 09, 2021 5:37 pmThis.

I think he's quite a smart chap.
