A Bank Holiday?
Apparently, some want one if we win the Euros.
Daft, I call it.

Good luck to them if they can afford to lose a days pay or use it as a holiday, own your own hangover.claretonthecoast1882 wrote: ↑Fri Jul 09, 2021 11:39 amI imagine were we to win it a high number won't make work on Monday.

If you find yourself unable to pay your bills after having 1 day off work it is probably your lifestyle that needs adjusting.Jakubclaret wrote: ↑Fri Jul 09, 2021 11:46 amThere is more to life than money but I’ve yet to find a way of bills paying for themselves, let me know when you find a way I’m in.

If they do decide on a bank holiday it won’t be Monday. The result may not be decided until close to 11pm, too late to do anything for Monday.

It’s the same with schools. Some are allowing kids to come in late on Monday. Our local primary is having an enrichment day today. It involves playing with nerf guns etc on a playing field. The interruption to education due to covid was going to be life changing for kids they said. Let’s have a day off to play with nerf guns then.

Every penny counts, it’s whether you find it important enough to make sacrifices for, it’s down to individual personal choice & everyone’s different.claretonthecoast1882 wrote: ↑Fri Jul 09, 2021 11:47 amIf you find yourself unable to pay your bills after having 1 day off work it is probably your lifestyle that needs adjusting.

I hope we win of course I do but a Bank Holiday is not needed. There are more important things for us as a nation to think about at the moment.

A sense of responsibility it’s called, back in the day you buried a relative in the morning you was back in on the afternoon or at the very least the next day, like I said everyone’s different, if I was a boss running my own business I’d be dishing warnings out or going down the disciplinary route for bogus sick days & timekeeping.

If you were your own boss and any member of staff didn't turn in would you decide the punishment by spinning the wheel ?Jakubclaret wrote: ↑Fri Jul 09, 2021 11:56 amA sense of responsibility it’s called, back in the day you buried a relative in the morning you was back in on the afternoon or at the very least the next day, like I said everyone’s different, if I was a boss running my own business I’d be dishing warnings out or going down the disciplinary route for bogus sick days & timekeeping.

Re: A Bank Holiday?
Plenty of businesses are taking the view that it's better to be shut for the morning, or entire day, than it is to expect people to rock up sober.claretonthecoast1882 wrote: ↑Fri Jul 09, 2021 11:39 amI imagine were we to win it a high number won't make work on Monday.
I've also seen a school saying any child the turns up later in the morning won't be marked as absent/late cos of the occasion
Re: A Bank Holiday?
And rightly so. A child’s education is far more important.GodIsADeeJay81 wrote: ↑Fri Jul 09, 2021 12:01 pm

Re: A Bank Holiday?
Most bosses are giving their staff the day off and planning work schedule around it rather than people ducking and letting customers down.
One day off is better than people faking Covid positives and 20 people having 10 days off.

I'm hoping plenty of people near me have the day off and order lots of mcds breakfasts Monday am
Last Sunday Morning was pretty busy, as was Thursday.

Re: A Bank Holiday?
The only reason I’d allow adults the day off or start later is to allow that to coincide with children having the day off or starting school later.
But letting “adults” have the day off because they get into such a state where they are not fit to work the day off is, pathetic.

I'd rather give a bank holiday the day there were no temporary traffic lights in Burnley.

Somewhere did this happen before as i seem to recall when Australia won the Americas Cup in the 80s something was said at the time . I do remember them saying that they were going to run a tractor over the top of it and call it the Australia's plate .............

Our glorious leader was publicly considering it because he likes to be seen to do things that he thinks will go down well with his voters, regardless of considerations around logistics and practicalities.
It was never going to happen.
It was never going to happen.

Not one person said they couldn't enjoy the fun or football without a drink.

Re: A Bank Holiday?
It strikes me that a decision on this, whether it's by individuals or firms or even government etc will have to be made well before 8 p.m. Sunday, but then that's making a decision on the assumption we'll win it. Some people are going to look a bit silly if we lose and it's all rather flat and England declared a bank holiday for coming a poor second in the Euros!!

Re: A Bank Holiday?
Back on topic, imagine the bank holiday will be in a week or so? Open bus parade? After the 19th when restrictions lifted?
If the Italiains win, do we think Dominos/ pizza places will try and use it as an advertising gimmick - to say sorry for winning, have the runner up special promotion....

Re: A Bank Holiday?
I’m a family man, and that is who I will be celebrating with. Some like a drink, some don’t. It’s each to their own and certainly won’t be the ones judging those that do. If you’ve never had a few drinks and had one too many fair enough but you’d be in the minority. Lighten up
Re: A Bank Holiday?
Yes I think I’ve misread the word “won’t” instead of “will”.

Re: A Bank Holiday?
My first thought had little to do with alcohol abuse. I was thinking more on the lines that if we are to have another bank holiday (and we could do with more) we should be able to find a better reason than winning a football match.
It also occured to me that this could put extra pressure on the team. Remember Beckham getting death threats for getting sent off? Imagine the bile if a player should miss a vital penalty.

A sobering reminder if you think skiving off your work to attend a match is a good ideahttps://uk.yahoo.com/sports/news/meet-d ... 0070.html
She's fortunate that she's got other work to fall back on, but not everybody will be so lucky.
I have to say it does seem harsh sacking her, but then if she left the company shorthanded I can see their POV also.

Re: A Bank Holiday?
It’s not just that, it’s not simple, the consequences of having 1 day off could lead to dismissal say for example if you are already on a final written for your attendance or some sort of a purge is on the way due to shortage of demand, you are almost guaranteeing your name at the top of a list, so in that possible worse casebook scenario you are effectively well & truly in the excrement, especially if you have nothing to fall back on & for some people it’ll happen as sure as eggs.claretonthecoast1882 wrote: ↑Fri Jul 09, 2021 11:47 amIf you find yourself unable to pay your bills after having 1 day off work it is probably your lifestyle that needs adjusting.

Re: A Bank Holiday?
Sounds about right. Kids education has been unnecessarily thrown in the bin over the last 18 months - hundreds of thousands off isolating, schools shut for months on end and now the boomers are coming for them again, claiming that missing an hour and a half of school, to enjoy an event that is every bit as culturally important as a royal wedding or whatever will somehow ruin them, is frankly ridiculous but not surprising.
