they will be no win for Cav today as a very strong breakaway goes and the peloton decides to take a rest after failing to shut it down following several crashes

After 2 horrendous Pyrennean stages a stand down day was called for.
Cav must be very confident for Paris.

Was it a search or the latest delivery method?

Not sure if anybody noticed but Pogacar set off today with 58/11 gearing. I have a table with all the gear lengths in inches. The table only goes up to 54 and a 54/11 would be 133inches for every turn of the pedals. His 58 on the front was like a 12” dinner plate. Amazing even if he didn’t win.
I’ve always been interested in what gearing they ride and this was the first time I’ve seen it on screen. Hope it continues.

Im surprised Vingegaard hasn't made a move today with it being his last chance to catch Pogacar. Its almost like he's given up and just accepted coming second

Yep just a joke but a shame Cav couldn't finish it off and hopefully next year someone can give Pog a run for his money

If two riders were separated by only a second for the yellow jersey would they be allowed to race on the Paris stage or is that a no no regardless of the time difference?

As far as I'm aware there's nothing in the rules which prevents racing on the final stage, but there appears to be an understanding that it's not the done thing to do, a sort of gentleman's agreement if you will, it would be interesting if anybody did try and renege on this arrangement, but to my knowledge it hasn't happened, certainly not in living memory anyhow.

It has happened in living memory.Laurent Fignon and Greg LeMond fought it out on the last day,in the Eighties.Fignon lost the race,LeMond clawed back to win by about 8 seconds,i believe

But that was a time trial and not the parade into Paris.

Great thread - good example for others. No bickering sensible comment and informative. Just one poster came on to make daft comment despite contributing nothing else. Enjoyed it.

Wind your neck in you miserable git. Ive been watching the TDF and following this thread all the way through and made a light hearted comment which actually prompted a good discussion.

You're the only one coming on this wonderful thread and having a pop at someone so have a day off

Blimey! there's more than I thought, I do also note that these unwritten rules aren't always abided too.
