Re: Insect bites.
Try Avon’s ‘skin so soft’
It is a hand cream but is excellent as an insect repelleant. Apparently the SAS and US Marines swear by it.
I too used to get bitten a lot and started using this. Really did the trick.
And a bonus is that you end up with really soft skin

Re: Insect bites.
When bitten which you cant prevent use Tiger Balm white from Chinese herbalists or Holland and Barrett
Or to stop itching apply bircarb of soda mixed to a thick paste and apply to the bite area
Toothpaste containing bircarb also works

Re: Insect bites.
Avon Skin so Soft does indeed work, but it's also quite greasy and can overheat the skin in hot weather, especially if you're doing any strenuous excerise like hill walking or biking.

Biting everyone at the minute near wooded area's.
Skin so soft works.
They especially attack you if any scratches or cuts on show as they see it as an easy access to your blood.
I've never really known people go on about these horseflies so much it's usually Wasps.

If you react to them like I do keeping anti histamines handy through the summer is a must. Bicarbonate of soda is good for any itching… good for painful sunburn too.

Thanks everyone that Avon cream seems to be the favourite.
Re: Insect bites.
I got bitten by Horse flies in Abersoch about 6 weeks ago. 2 bites turned really bad, my leg swelled up and was burning hot.
I had to get an antibiotic cream prescribed for them and it still took 2 weeks to heal. Even now it's still scarred and itchy.
Horrible insects.

Re: Insect bites.
I’ve ended up like that a couple of times, I’ve been on antibiotics once as I ended up hardly being able to walk! I forgot to put repellent one whilst playing golf a couple of weeks ago and had three of the little feckers chewing at my leg at the same time!!Jel wrote: ↑Sun Jul 18, 2021 9:24 pmI got bitten by Horse flies in Abersoch about 6 weeks ago. 2 bites turned really bad, my leg swelled up and was burning hot.

Re: Insect bites.
Thanks for the reminder I have had several bad bites one which swelled my hand horribly. I was sat by the lawn today and just happened to see one sat in the grass next to my bare foot ribbed back and all. Lucky escape.

I believe wearing a mask stops it. Although only protects the non mask wearer.

Re: Insect bites.
Stopped at a service station yesterday and waiting near the doors for mmy wife to come out and started itching in different places. I spotted several tiny skinny insects on my arm - maybe half a cm long and 0.5mm thin. Hastily headed back towards the car and brushed them off. By the time my wife got to the car I'd seen about 10 of them on my drivers window. Place was crawling, literally and now I ha e a few itchy bites.
Anyone git any ideas what the skinny gits could have been?

Using your defence of racism by saying if a non white person isn't ok with receiving racist abuse on twitter then he should close his account, surely if you don't want to be bitten outside by insects just stay indoors. If you go outside you are asking for it.

Re: Insect bites.
Difference being insects are part of nature & have been in existence for a very long time creating more problems & biting more people than a handful of footballers/celebrities getting stick on Twitter, I’m not expecting giant pharmaceutical companies to create solutions to help me free of charge whilst people are campaigning/lobbying for the Twitter chiefs to have a complete overhaul regarding verification upon registering for millions of people free of charge, no difference at all
Re: Insect bites.
For those that are anti-war campaigners hoping for a better world, one mosquito bite will soon resolve that moralistic fantasy.

Re: Insect bites.
Another positive mention for the Avon stuff. I had it recommended several years ago and was told the story about it being regulation issue for the armed forces. It really does work and it's far less "intrusive" than some other stuff you can buy because essentially it's a skin moisturiser.

After all the recommendations, I have just ordered some.Dark Cloud wrote: ↑Mon Jul 19, 2021 9:19 amAnother positive mention for the Avon stuff. If you do get bitten though the After bite pen is very good at getting rid of bites and stopping itching.

Same ordered a bottle this morning from my Avon representative £3:50 a bottle apparently there’s a few different types I’ve gone for the original so I’m hoping that keeps the little buggers at bay.
