Chris Wood....GOAL
Just had a WhatsApp from my pal in NZ saying that Woody has put them one up in their Olympic game v South Korea.

All over...National hero !!
Re: Chris Wood....GOAL
“Just onside”. I’ve always thought, him being offside is a given seeing as he’s from the future. With him being closer to home, he’ll be back in sink with the world.

Re: Chris Wood....GOAL
Seen it now and it's a really neat finish. NZ player shoots from edge of box, it deflects to Wood about 8 yards out centrally and, as the commentator says, "two awesome touches" and it's in the net.

Re: Chris Wood....GOAL
Good to hear. Hopefully he'll bag a few more and start the season in goal scoring form for us. Competitive games are better than a pre-season campaign, in my view.
Anyone know when the competition ends and he's back with us though?

Anyone got a link for the goal?

Just looked at stats for the game, South Korea looked like they bossed the game, but New Zealand nicked it in true Burnley style.

Really neat finish. Bang,bang,boom.
Re: Chris Wood....GOAL
Don't we need NZ to get knocked out, so he gets back here earlier ?

Re: Chris Wood....GOAL
What in earths Wood doing playing in that nonsense ? Though it’s a preseason of sorts I guess .Presuming he’s an “overage” allocation player?
Re: Chris Wood....GOAL
Thanks DC, I suppose Wood regards it as useful work out before our season starts which sounds reasonable providing he keeps injury free.daveisaclaret wrote: ↑Thu Jul 22, 2021 3:43 pmI watched it - the service to him was almost non-existent and so he wasn't particularly involved for most of the game. Had a few decent touches though.

Re: Chris Wood....GOAL
Watched the game as well - as said a very Burnley like performance from New Zealand. Not much for quality on display apart from the finish. He was largely having no service, second half NZ came out and attack a little more and linked up the play in the final 3rd as best as he could don’t remember him giving away the ball at all.
The finish was the only real bit of quality throughout the match. Not a bad run out for him at all.

Well done Woody, Vyds at the Euro's, and now Woody at the Olympics, we're certainly being kept interested throughout the summer.
Just make sure you stay injury free Chris, and save a goal or two for your return to TM.

Re: Chris Wood....GOAL
And another one for Wood, against Honduras this time. My mate’s description …Breaks away from his marker to get on the end of a cross and hammers home in to the roof of the net.
Unfortunately looks like Honduras are going to win 3-2, though NZ going out and Woody coming home is ideal for us I suppose.

Re: Chris Wood....GOAL
The NZ Keeper, Woud has had a bit of a shocker and you'd argue was at fault (to one degree or another) for all three of the Honduras goals. Woody's goal was breaking away from his marker and getting on the end of a good cross. Finished from edge of the 6 yard box. Didn't have many other chances playing as a lone striker, but he did show great hold up, and link up play with midfield.
Earlier Cacece (sp?) scored a scorcher for NZ's opener.

Re: Chris Wood....GOAL
Would be a massive effort. The win against Korea was the first ever (and so far only ever) win at the Olympics. Winston Reid may miss the rest of the tourney now too and Stanger looked a bit green as his replacement. Plus the keeper looked shocking. Not sure if that's a one off!
