I quite like Benson thought in flashes he looked good.
However I think Maitland Niles would be great alongside Westwood

I'm not sure if it has been posted on here already, but Thomas Robert left us without securing a development squad contract. He is now looking for a spot with Salford City.

Think this one will come back to bite us. He’s got a contract until 2023. Loan him out, if he has a successful season he’ll either be pushing for a 1st team slot here or we’d be able to sell him for much more.
I just wish Stephens was fit so we could off load him and give kids like Benson more of a chance.

I agree 100% will the sale of Benson.
Hes a decent player. But nowhere near the standard required to compete in premier league.

If we get a million for Benson (who hasn’t quite looked good enough, for me) then that’s the academy/signing of U23 players working to a tee isn’t it? We either get them in the first team helping us out on the pitch, or they are of a sufficient quality to make us decent money.
Who knows, that might be the difference that allows us to up a bid for one of our targets.

He’s not technically good enough. You don’t coach that into a 20 odd y/o. Rightly moving on to pursue a career.FeedTheArf wrote: ↑Wed Jul 28, 2021 8:15 amThink this one will come back to bite us. We have a responsibility to create opportunities for our squad to have a career rather than rot in the 23’s.

I would have keep him as well. £1m including potential add ons is not a huge amount.Claret_tinted wrote: ↑Wed Jul 28, 2021 8:50 amHe’s not technically good enough. You don’t coach that into a 20 odd y/o. Rightly moving on to pursue a career.

He isn't ready for the Premiership, but I feel that he could do a job for a Championship club.
The problem is that a lot of people on here seem to have tunnel vision. They believe that what we need this season is what we will need next season. Benson still has a long contract with us so the need to move him on isn't urgent.
We should be planning with one eye on staying in the PL and one eye and what we would do if we got relegated. Should the worst happen this season then a player like Benson could be very handy for us in the Championship, especially if we lose or sell players as many clubs do when they drop.
Wave goodbye to him now for a relatively small fee and we might struggle to find a replacement at a similar price should we get relegated. Keeping him on the books and sending him on loan to a club in the Championship for the coming season makes a lot more sense to me. If we get relegated he is still with us and if he has a good season on loan his value will rise by quite a bit.
If the argument is about coaching technical ability then we should have sold Mumbongo instead of loaning him out.

I see the sale of Benson, if that’s what it’s going to be , as a bold positive move by Dyche and the new owners. It tells me that we are not prepared to stand still and wait for things to happen.
So many exciting things happening on the young players front and the 1-2 new signings that are on their way fills me with confidence that we’re not going to have sub standard benches next season

If the reports of Millwall are also enquiring about Benson are true then I would of liked Burnley to have struck up a part exchange plus cash offer for Wallace to come the other way, he's exactly the type of player we need on the right wing

Re: Summer 2021 Transfer Window Rumours - Links - Discussion
The other way to look at it is if we loaned him to the Championship and he didn't do well then we'd be lucky to get £500k. A ~£1m with % sell on is probably the safer bet.
Gomez-Mancini has always looked the better player to me when they've played together in the U23s and this summer has been moved up from the U23 preseason tour to starting for the first team so maybe they've felt he's progressed to the point where he can replace/surpass Benson.

Just read that United are thinking of offloading Phil Jones on a free transfer and former boss David Moyes is interested in taking him to West Ham on a "highly incentivised" contract. Newcastle are allegedly also interested. Phil is 29 and hasn't played any football for 18 months since he was injured. Some might say he didn't play much before his injury either.

Benson is 21 and not the long term solution, average at best in my opinion. Hence why he's off for a meagre 1m.
Re: Summer 2021 Transfer Window Rumours - Links - Discussion
You say meagre, but a million is a good chunk back into the pot for the academy. If, and it’s a big expectation, we can get the academy to be self funded, that’d be a great start.1914tyrone wrote: ↑Wed Jul 28, 2021 5:47 pmBenson is 21 and not the long term solution, average at best in my opinion. Agree entirely. We should be looking at regularly producing players in demand from Championship clubs to help fund it.
On Benson, I thought he was worth keeping for £1m but he was poor against Oldham (think it was him?). One pre-season game isn’t a fair assessment but equally you have to take your chances and shine when the opportunities come your way, so fair enough if we look to sell and move on. Does make us light on numbers in CM though

No not at all, I genuinely think we will be very close to the edge and will tip over this year. I hope Dyche can work another miracle, but I don’t think he will.
I personally think Dyche will be in another job by Christmas.
Sad thoughts, but my realistic opinion.
