Wish the lad well.
He got some really unnecessary pelters on here at times last season.

Good luck Josh.
Based on us turning down 1m for him I'm guessing slightly higher?

Re: ARTICLE: Benson from Burnley to Barnsley
I wish him well too and it's not often a young player gets that sort of deal.
Re: ARTICLE: Benson from Burnley to Barnsley
Good luck to the young man. Games at that level is exactly what he needs.

Next step will be Barnsley to Barnet.
Re: ARTICLE: Benson from Burnley to Barnsley
That's an interesting one. He's hardly played at all for us but Barnsley have obviously seen something in him worth putting a lot of time, effort, money, and faith into.
I hope he's a huge success for them and I do think he's gone to the right club there.

Hope he beds in well there and that we have a sell on clause which I'm sure we will have.

I'm certain this is what we are doing with the likes of Josh plus Ryan Cooney and Jimmy Dunne.

Good luck to him. Personally thought he looked like he had a bit of class about him albeit very young and raw.
Shows how far we’ve come when young players we let go are now going to the likes of qpr and Barnsley.

We have 18 senior outfield players , 2 of of whom are recovering from operations.

Re: ARTICLE: Benson from Burnley to Barnsley
If we can sell 3x young players a season for £3m then I’d expect we’ll be covering the academy running cost. So the model is self sustaining even if we don’t produce prem standard first team players. That’s got to be the plan year in year out.

Good move for him. It's a real shame that most fees are undisclosed these days, as I'd love to know how much a player who (at present, at least) isn't good enough for the Premier League is worth nowadays.

Re: ARTICLE: Benson from Burnley to Barnsley
Good to see we're now producing players through the academy that Championship clubs are attracted by, and we got decent money, with I guess a fair sell-on clause inserted.
So for Josh's and Burnley's long term good I hope he impresses for the Tykes.
Now we've cleared the decks it's surely time to start recruiting, I'd say we need a minimum of 1 CM, and 1 RW, but as Stephens is still unavailable we may need to consider getting 2 CM'S in the building, we now have only Cork & Westwood as fit senior CM'S, yes I know Brownhill can play there, but He'll likely be dispatched to the right unless we get signings in over the next couple of weeks.

Re: ARTICLE: Benson from Burnley to Barnsley
Yes that's a frightening prospect given that the season commences in just over a fortnight, I can only hope that the plan is too trim the squad to allow space for newbies.randomclaret2 wrote: ↑Thu Jul 29, 2021 7:09 pmWe have 18 senior outfield players , 2 of of whom are recovering from operations.
If this isn't the case then our bench is going to be even more threadbare than last season, and I never thought that could be possible.
You can only assume we've got some irons in the fire as we're allowing guys to leave en masse.

Re: ARTICLE: Benson from Burnley to Barnsley
We may get a pleasant surprise, but you've got to consider his history, and normally he only manages 2/3 games on the bounce before either breaking down, or having to be managed. Shame! as at his best he's one of our more effective attacking outlets, but we simply can't rely on him staying fit for any sustained period of time alas.

Yes I've no issue with that, and for that kind of money we'd be daft to knock a bid back.fidelcastro wrote: ↑Thu Jul 29, 2021 7:26 pmI think we're allowing the guys to leave who clearly aren't good enough.
I just hope this is the pruning the wheat from the chafe before we embark on a spending spree.

Really pleased for the lad. He showed attitude after being let go from Arsenal to keep his dream alive. I hope to see him making a real name in the EFL.
Well done Josh.

two years ago it was said the lowest cost of running a Cat 1 Academy was Circa £5m, with all the protocols in place and the fact we now seem to be paying fees for some of our development players I cannot see how it will be less and could be a fair bit moreFather Jack wrote: ↑Thu Jul 29, 2021 7:10 pmIf we can sell 3x young players a season for £3m then I’d expect we’ll be covering the academy running cost. Aren’t Barnsley one of those clubs that do the moneyball algorithms? You could definitely see him busy in a midfield pushing 10 and 15 yd passes around.

That is exactly what Barnsley are about (there are now 6 clubs in the group) and it is all about moving talent on whether it be players, coaches, analysts, even their chief executive.CharlieinNewMexico wrote: ↑Thu Jul 29, 2021 8:35 pmAren’t Barnsley one of those clubs that do the moneyball algorithms? Like Liefering > Salzburg > Leipzig > boom big sale to Bayern or similar European club. Nice Conveyor belt and little money changing hands because of same ownership until the pay off.Chester Perry wrote: ↑Thu Jul 29, 2021 8:39 pmThat is exactly what Barnsley are about (there are now 6 clubs in the group) and it is all about moving talent on whether it be players, coaches, analysts, even their chief executive.

Good business from us this window with our sales. Don't think Benson or Dunne really showed they were premier league quality. That's the problem though, such a big gap for youngsters nowadays.

Good luck to the lad but nowhere near upto this leagues standard yet - maybe in the future but right to cash in and admire him moving on to have a career unlike Long.
