Re: Part cashless at the Turf
Irrelevant, if the banks or any other institutions faze cheques and cash out that gives them the opportunity to levi a charge for spending our own money.
That’s why a choice is so important.

Re: Part cashless at the Turf
There is a choice. You eat and drink at the Turf or you buy it somewhere elae that still takes coins and notes. Just as you'll have a choice to use a bank that doesn't "levi" a charge once cheques and cashout have been "fazed" out if your worst case scenario ever comes to pass.

Irrelevant, read again carefully and then engage brain.

Re: Part cashless at the Turf
Cheques were due to be fazed out when i was in banking. In short, market traders and the elderly who both much preferred cheques saw that particular initiative off, although i'm really not sure it would now.
We were up to our necks in PPI claims, with packaged account complaints coming over the ridge at the time, so no-one really had the stomach for the fight really.
They have moved on a little though, allowing you to photograph / scan the cheque and submit it electronically, i believe.

Peter Loo, I have - both - and still conclude you are complaining for the sake of it. The other possibility, the one where you haven't a card or are unwilling to use it on the Turf would be too stupid to even contemplate.

This article gives an informative account of how cashless spending impacts on people and the propensity for such a move to increase overall spending by making it easier for people to over spend - possible leading to problems with short term or long term debt.

Re: Part cashless at the Turf
Hard Earned Cash; does anyone actually still get paid in cash these days who is in a regular job, except for the odd small handyman jobs I've not paid a contractor in cash in years.
Certainly all my payments coming in are in bank transfers or crypto. 99% of my outgoing payments are in bank transfers and I have used checks for only a few things, probably not more than 10 a year. Additionally that's in the US, where banking is archaic, certainly UK banking miles ahead.
It's a good thing as far as I am concerned.

Perhaps a "One person, one Twix" rule should be introduced in an effort to avoid any potential bankruptcies................

There's something upwards of a million people in the UK who aren't able to get bank accounts. Add to that obviously you've got kids who generally don't have bank cards and you can see where an issue may arise.evensteadiereddie wrote: ↑Mon Aug 02, 2021 8:20 pmPeter Loo, I have - both - and still conclude you are complaining for the sake of it. American Express charge merchants about 1-2% more than VISA/MasterCard, and I struggle to find places that don't accept them anymore.Gordaleman wrote: ↑Mon Aug 02, 2021 8:03 pmHardly surprising that so many retailers refuse American Express. They charge retailers a lot more than Visa or Mastercard.

Re: Part cashless at the Turf
I could understand peoples frustration when the club didnt provide contactless payments at all but I dont get the need to become completely cashless.
I never use cash nowadays but Id hope that in most small transaction situations there could be an option for both and Im certainly not going to start belittling those who still prefer or even need to use cash

Re: Part cashless at the Turf
I'm not, tim, you're right but, chuffing hell, if somebody can't be arsed to use their card on a matchday then they'll have to do without. Nothing to do with age - that Age UK article hardly presents a convincing argument, does it ?
As it states, we all use cash at some time and will continue to do so but just not at the Turf. You'll just have to be flexible/use commonsense. The club have given plenty of notice but if it's too much of a trial to use a card then join those who won't be going on the Turf because of some perceived Season Ticket fiasco or those who cannot bear to see the lads take the knee. Looks like there's going to be plenty of room for normal folk .......

Hope springs eternal …
Re: Part cashless at the Turf
personally think this is a bad move and cash should be an option. Knowing BFC,the system will crash at 14.30 on the day of the Brighton match and Mr Pace will be taking home 10000 pies
Re: Part cashless at the Turf
I use my card or phone to pay for 99% of transactions these days but the option to pay with cash should absolutely remain.
It is nothing to do with living in the past, it is about maintaining a system with genuine choice that isn't managed by large financial institutions. Bankers are one of the least trusted professions yet we are collectively so desperate to allow them to control how we pay for things.
Removing cash disenfranchises certain groups such as the young (cash tips in hospitality for example) to those without bank accounts or to charities that rely on cash donations.
There was a point above stating that if you don't like cashless then just use somewhere else that accepts cash. The issue is those places are reducing so you soon won't have that choice. The pandemic is being used to push the banks' agenda through in the name of hygiene but that's not what it's really about for them.
As soon as you lose cash you lose control over your money and it just becomes a piece of digital information that is vulnerable to future foreign government sponsored cyber attacks, IT crashes, the whims of your own government and many other factors.
Progress is fine, but not when it puts genuine financial freedom at risk.

Up to point. The problem I foresee is when individuals ask for a receipt the whole thing will collapse.ŽižkovClaret wrote: ↑Mon Aug 02, 2021 8:02 pmGiven we have just had a pandemic that is spread by contact, anyone sensible has to welcome schemes such as this that would reduce the amount of physical contact. There probably are people in crap financial state who don't have a card. Thing is though, they probably aren't going to be on the Turf are they if they are that skint?

Yeah the only problem I have with cashless is that as we are seeing, one badly timed power failure and you’re screwed.

A friend of mine was in Asda one day when they had a power failure. They had to switch quickly to cash but couldn’t scan any of the items at the checkout so we’re asking people to estimate.
I can confirm he didn’t purchase a Twix.
