if we've just signed the best Burnley player ever then expect him to be sold for 100 million next summer ! We've had some great players, many of whom were before my time. If he's half as good as Peter Mumby we may have over spent !

I’ve seen some clips of him and I can’t see it to be honest. They’re normally him slide tacking players. Admittedly I know little about him other than he has scored regularly against Man City, which we struggle to do. I’m nowhere near as excited as when we signed Steven Defour, though perhaps it’s because we already have Charlie Taylor, and I’m seeing him in the same mould?

Better than Jimmy Mac? He must be some player. Its a shame we cant persuade him to cry off from the games with the Ivory Coast to get his fitness and housing sorted.
Re: Have we just signed Burnley's best ever player?
Going forward looks great, but as pointed out above most tackles are sliding tackles, and im not sure he will get away with going to ground so quickly in the Premiere League. Good luck to him though and I hope he turns out to be an amazing signing, I just hope we dont put to much expectation on his shoulders, I remember Defour getting the moans and groans from the crowd when he first started.

Best ever player? I’ve never seen him play so couldn’t even tell you if thought he was a good player, let alone likely to be our “best ever”.
I get the giddiness around this guy. He’s not our usual type of signing. He represents something different.
Take the hype down a few notches tho.

Fair enough, I didn’t know that. What threw me was his videos seem to show a lot of tackling in the left back position, and he’s only played on the right one time in his last 50 appearances according to stats I’d seen. It’ll be good it he has two decent feet.CharlieinNewMexico wrote: ↑Mon Aug 30, 2021 7:33 amDone to death on here that he’s really a right sided attacker

Re: Have we just signed Burnley's best ever player?
Having done some google translating on the OL forum I’m not sure we have but what do fans know?
The majority are glad to see him go especially for this amount of money. “We’ve just robbed them” was one comment, and “who will be the new scapegoat” was another.
Positive views are that he gives everything for the shirt and this makes up for his technical deficiencies. And a lot are thanking him for the memories of his finest hour vs City.
One post said that he was bought as a striker originally then converted to a winger and eventually full back which is quite interesting.
I guess time will tell.

He’s going to have to be good then if that’s the case. Let’s get him playing for a season first before we make a judgment.

Better than Defour ??
Interesting to hear from the manager on what he thinks Cornet will bring to the table

Plenty of painkillers and lots of water for the OP when they surface.
Re: Have we just signed Burnley's best ever player?
Do you think he's the first good player we have ever had?
I suppose if football really was invented in 1992, he could turn out to be the best. But I don't yet see the evidence that he was better than Leighton James, let alone the players in the teams that won the league.
Re: Have we just signed Burnley's best ever player?
Id sell him for 30/40 mil next year if he plays a blinderVegas Claret wrote: ↑Mon Aug 30, 2021 6:10 amif we've just signed the best Burnley player ever then expect him to be sold for 100 million next summer ! Re: Have we just signed Burnley's best ever player?
Our highest profile signing in recent years for sure. Defour was big, but this guy is younger and probably better known in world football. Good stats consistently.
In Ligue 1 - 2015-played 31 scored 8 assisted 1, 2016-played 33 scored 6 assisted 2, 2017-played 30 scored 4 assisted 6, 2018-played 27 scored 7 assisted 5. As well as 6 goals in 23 champions league games. Impressive.
What I have gathered from his Lyon career is that he was converted to left back because there was nobody else in the last 18 months. He also worked hard and has been described a “soldier” by Lyon fans. Before that he had played left wing and right wing mostly - which is where he has been best, scoring and assisting impressive amounts in Ligue 1 and the champions league. Interestingly, multiple Lyon fans blamed the manager for destroying his market value by converting him to a left back - suggesting we may have got a good deal.
I can’t wait to see him at the turf. Hopefully he’ll get at least a run out after the international break.

This video focuses on his attacking skills rather than his defensive skills
If he can play like that for Burnley (it obviously depends on whether our players can make the step up to a higher skill/creativity level) then he may well become one of our best ever players

No, we've just removed Burnley's best ever player's name from the back of the stand.

Steven Defour had 50 caps in the midfield of the number one nation. He was two cuts above.Iloveyoubrady wrote: ↑Mon Aug 30, 2021 9:57 amOur highest profile signing in recent years for sure. Defour was big, but this guy is younger and probably better known in world football.
Let's hope the Cornet contribution exceeds it in time.

Re: Have we just signed Burnley's best ever player?
Defours caps were long before we signed him though. He had declined rapidly due to injury when we signed him. He did come good again but it was for very limited time before he was off injured again.
Re: Have we just signed Burnley's best ever player?
He played for Belgium whilst with us.
His reputation was made, in any case.

He got a few Belgium caps whilst a Burnley player. Your point about him being past his peak when signing for us is correct though.Iloveyoubrady wrote: ↑Mon Aug 30, 2021 4:01 pmDefours caps were long before we signed him though. I think we signed Defour because of his injuries. Man U wanted him in his prime.

Indeed. I meant he hadn’t been at his best for a few years before he joined us. He then got back to his best with us when he had a good run in the team and then played a few more times for Belgium.

Fingers crossed and if he's as good as Steven Defour, I'll be happy. If he's as good as Peter Noble, I'll be ecstatic ! As for Jimmy Mac, let's not go there!

Would Jimmy Mac have been happy to play "tippy-tappy" across the back line?
