Have we just signed Burnley's best ever player?
Re: Have we just signed Burnley's best ever player?
Seriously, this is what Burnley’s recruitment has done to people in the last few years

Re: Have we just signed Burnley's best ever player?
No but he could prove a massive hit if he lives up to his hype, however I agree with the posters who say we shouldn't be expecting him to perform miracles, he should vastly improve us on the RW though, and that's what we've been lacking for far too long.
But no he wouldn't get into my top 20 BFC players of all time, there's plenty of guys far more deserving than he might be. Notably both Championship winning sides, the 1960's team in particular was littered with quality players, who in the modern era would go for large fees.
Let's just let Cornet settle in first before we start building him up to be a Clarets legend before he's even kicked a ball in anger yet.

A shame neither of Ivory Coast’s games are on Satellite, and won’t personally bother with streams.

I’m getting concerned about the hype this player is getting, he could turn out to be the next Besart Berisha

I'd love to know what percentage of our fans had actually heard of him prior to his link.claptrappers_union wrote: ↑Mon Aug 30, 2021 10:49 pmI’m getting concerned about the hype this player is getting, he could turn out to be the next Besart Berisha

Depression is a serious mental illness that people suffer from it can affect anybody, it's not something you should be poking fun at in my opinion.fidelcastro wrote: ↑Mon Aug 30, 2021 6:13 pmA bit rich. Time will tell of course but I’m rather cautious in my expectations. Of the top five European leagues, La Ligue has a reputation as being the poorest in quality.

That's fine but you must put one of these in your sentence next time ..

We're getting excited because he's foreign and cost £15m. For most Prem clubs now that price range is a u23 / squad filler signing. We've not signed Mbappe here, or even a (fit) Defour. But if he contributes and makes us a bit better that'll be fine.

I think some people on here are expecting a world beater.NottsClaret wrote: ↑Tue Aug 31, 2021 8:33 amWe're getting excited because he's foreign and cost £15m. It’s obviously a step up to the type of player we usually sign but I think we are seeing the beginnings to our new scape goat.

Re: Have we just signed Burnley's best ever player?
I still think quite a lot of people think this guy has been signed to play on the left, he is predominantly right footed and has played mainly on the right wing, I hope he is a breath of fresh air as we certainly cannot be expecting Mcneil to be our only form of attack, crosses etc.
Or he will be worn out by Xmas.

As amusing as threads like this are, I just hope people don't start getting on his back when they find out he isn't Ronaldinho

Re: Have we just signed Burnley's best ever player?
I’d heard he was good but hell he looks great. Don’t think he will get as much space in the PL though or or face such poor goalkeeping. And will some of our players keep up with his amazing back heels and flicks? Having said all that his skill and speed look exceptional.Mala591 wrote: ↑Mon Aug 30, 2021 11:42 amhttps://youtu.be/XuvfRC-O65s
This video focuses on his attacking skills rather than his defensive skills
If he can play like that for Burnley (it obviously depends on whether our players can make the step up to a higher skill/creativity level) then he may well become one of our best ever players
He’s nearly as good as Barnes.

Re: Have we just signed Burnley's best ever player?
(From the video) I’d seriously consider playing him up front alongside Wood. He has pace, trickery and good positioning. So midfield/forwards would be:
..........Wood.......Cornet
McNeil Brownhill/Cork/Westwood* JBG
* two out of the three
Barnes and Wood are undoubtedly giving 100% effort but imo the partnership just isn’t working anymore.

Surely you’re not suggesting that I was being a touch ironic there Boss?
To be honest bud my feelings on Barnes are well aired. He has been a great servant for the club and will still run through walls for the team but he ceased being PL quality some time ago. He should be doing a brilliant job for a decent Championship club but what he is doing still starting games for us I’ll never know. When I saw the starting line up on Sunday my heart sank. I wish he’d gone some time ago whilst we all still loved him.

Re: Have we just signed Burnley's best ever player?
Agree with this. I think maybe people who think we have just signed our best ever player are too young to remember players like James, Thomas, Dobson, Jimmy Mac, Connolly, the list goes on. Even our ‘lesser’ greats like Terry Cochrane take some beating.tiger76 wrote: ↑Mon Aug 30, 2021 8:35 pmNo but he could prove a massive hit if he lives up to his hype, however I agree with the posters who say we shouldn't be expecting him to perform miracles, he should vastly improve us on the RW though, and that's what we've been lacking for far too long.

Having said all that I am willing and happy to be proved wrong. He does look class (which given Sean’s way of thinking sometimes means he probably won’t get a game till the New Year) and his speed in that video had me thinking the film had been speeded up.
Good luck to the guy and here’s hoping for a climb up the table.
Top half this year anyone?

Re: Have we just signed Burnley's best ever player?
Thinking about it, Cornet could become our Mikael Antonio, he was being played as a full back at Notts Forest before West Ham converted him into a striker. Cornet is just under 6 foot, well built, quick and powerful.

Cornet is two stone lighter and from the clips I’ve seen he doesn’t seem remotely similar to Antonio.claretandy wrote: ↑Thu Sep 02, 2021 11:40 amThinking about it, Cornet could become our Mikael Antonio, he was being played as a full back at Notts Forest before West Ham converted him into a striker. It's impossible to say regarding the OP, he's very similar build wise to George ndah of palace & wolves, definitely not as bulky as Antonio for sure, you don't necessarily need to be any set specification to carry some attributes.

In the clip i've seen he bounces off defenders and turns them using his backside, i'm not talking about playing him up on his own like Antonio, but alongside wood.

Hopefully he stays injury free, gives us a real edge and improves the whole team . While Defour was an excellent player ,his tenure was mainly reduced to injury ravaged cameos

Certainly isn't what I thought it was supposed to be about. I thought this thread was here to discuss how good Maxwel Cornet is going to be and what level of expectations we Burnley fans should hold for his career as a Burnley player. Silly, naïve me
