Cornet and McNeil
Cornet and McNeil
Cornet and McNeil are surely playing on the wrong wings, McNeil looks lost on the right, he likes to cut in and cross but doesn't seem to do that on the right, Cornet on the left, I thought he was bought to solve our right wing problem out, I've never seen him play on the left wing for any other club, yes he got a nice goal yesterday but he's missed a few good chances and being on the left doesn't help his game, he likes to cut in and shoot but it looks like it's a lot harder for him on the left hand side.

Re: Cornet and McNeil
They swap positions, but away from home in a hard game they do it less.
One big reason; Harvey Barnes. As yet, Cornet cannot be trusted to track back as much as McNeil.
In attack, and in games when we worry less about opposition having a good right winger they will swap more. Likewise it shouldn't be an issue once Maxwell gels better in the team

Re: Cornet and McNeil
I’d imagine 1. They will swap wings over the course of a game and 2. Cornet hasn’t played on the right for a season or two, has been playing left for Ivory Coast recently so positionally is more accustomed to there (for now) while he gets up to speed with our system.

Thought Dwight looked pretty good on the right.

Re: Cornet and McNeil
I agree, you are nullifying Dwights crosses by playing him on the right, Cornet showed with his goal that his right foot is better than Dwights.

Re: Cornet and McNeil
Love Cornet but it does surprise me that we went for another left footer. Didn’t watch the whole game but Dwight looked quiet by his normal standards to me.
I’d go Cornet right and Dwight left personally.

Re: Cornet and McNeil
If Maxwel performs like he has to date then I'd be happy for him to take the goalkeeper's jersey and play wherever he wants
(For the easily offended on here, it's a joke... get it? Never mind )

Re: Cornet and McNeil
The more I think it about it, this makes the most sense to get goals from midfield.
Cornet looks natural playing left wing, he has a good left foot cross but can also shoot with his right.
McNeil can cut inside and get more involved. Lowton has to create the overlap though.

I've never seen McNeil look comfortable playing on the right tbh.

Re: Cornet and McNeil
If Dwight is to stay on the right then we need him to learn how to do the Scotty Arfield role. He was a master of keeping defensive shape but then able to quickly get into inside right positions getting in between the spaces. McNeil would be able to pick up the ball 30 yards out, almost like the Everton goal position last season, and then slide in strikers or even attempt shots.
And as mentioned above this gives the right back licence to overlap and support.

Re: Cornet and McNeil
MC looks great on the left ,though it does mean he often has to shoot with his “weaker” foot . Dwight has never looked happy on the right IMO and he often has to slow up to change feet like JBG does

Why do posters still have the view that MC is left footed

Re: Cornet and McNeil
He is. He’s just quite two footed compared to what we’re used to. We seem to collect a lot of very one footed players. I agree that McNeil has been lost on the right so we need to find a way of either getting him more influential or cornet on the right.Down_Rover wrote: ↑Sun Sep 26, 2021 9:29 amWhy do posters still have the view that MC is left footed

Re: Cornet and McNeil
In the 70 minutes or so that Cornet has played in the league, on the left, he has scored and come very close to doing so against Arsenal. I think it’s a bit early to be questioning this. The early signs also suggest that he will make more open play goal contributions than McNeil so there’s a very valid case to play to his strengths above anything else.

Re: Cornet and McNeil
It's not the current fad though to play wingers on their correct side, only fullbacks get to do that.
Don't worry though, it'll change as soon as someone like Pep 'discovers' it as a new thing.
Just like the current fad of everyone having to stop the ball before they cross instead of just whipping one in first time.

That's a shame, but I'll accept him shooting with his right for a bit longer.AlargeClaret wrote: ↑Sun Sep 26, 2021 9:19 amMC looks great on the left ,though it does mean he often has to shoot with his “weaker” foot.

Re: Cornet and McNeil
I love the fact we are actually having a debate over the problem of having two good wingers finally !!
