Re: REPORT: Brilliant afternoon for Burnley at the Bridge
Hi Tony
Sorry to hear of the loss of your friend, RIP Stephen.
I think there's a little error in the report:
"A long kick from Cork saw Vydra get an opportunity but his lob was off target."
From memory it was Pope's long ball that set up the chance for Vydra.
Thanks, as ever, for the report.

Re: REPORT: Brilliant afternoon for Burnley at the Bridge
Stephen (Willie) was a close friend of mine in those heady days of the 70s. We missed few games home or away between 72 and 76..and any remaining pocket money was gratefully received by the Turf Hotel.
His blood must have been claret and blue. RIP buddy.

Cork? It must have been all the excitement awaiting the Milan derby? I should have written goalkeeper.Rowls wrote: ↑Sun Nov 07, 2021 7:15 pmHi Tony

Just under only 40,000 is that because of social distancing or just that they people didn't go?
I am assuming that they can get more then 40K in he ground.

Re: REPORT: Brilliant afternoon for Burnley at the Bridge
40k is about Stamford Bridge capacity. There were a few spare seats in the away fans section. We obviously didn't sell out - but good numbers, whatever they were.
Chelsea have had plans to re-build Stamford Bridge, maybe 5 or 6 years back. I think Abromovich decided it was too expensive. I'm not sure whether they are still planning on development.
No social distancing. Everyone, yes, everyone had to show vaccination record (or negative covid test). Chelsea have been doing this all season. Easy to do. Show your mobile (I guess paper also acceptable) in the first line of stewards, or was it show ticket to get past the first line and then covid/vax status on second line. The gates were then maybe a further 20-30 metres away - with more stewards making sure you were heading to the right gates.
Also masks had to be worn in all the indoor areas/concourse - though this didn't appear to be strictly enforced.

Re: REPORT: Brilliant afternoon for Burnley at the Bridge
Cracking report CT, and Chelsea must be stick of the sight of Burnley trooping up at the Bridge.
We beat them in 2017 when they were reigning champs, and we've also obtained some decent draws through the seasons down there, plus of course not not to forget our famous penalty shoot out win in the Capital Punishment campaign under Coyle.
It's typical that every time a supposed lesser club picks up an unexpected result at one of the apparent super clubs they always throw their toys out of the pram, and true to form Tuchel didn't disappoint on Saturday.
Condolences to hear of the sad passing of your friend Tony. RIP Stephen.

Re: REPORT: Brilliant afternoon for Burnley at the Bridge
Great report, CT.
I especially like this section: "this was the Burnley we know, this was the Burnley we love, organised, committed and with a strong jaw. I don’t think there would have been a Burnley fan leaving Stamford Bridge disappointed with the performance and I’m sure they all left delighted with the result."
Yes, delighted by the result.
I was at the game. I've since watched the whole game again on Sky on Saturday evening. (Yes, home by 6:30pm. Stamford Bridge is not too far from home for me). I particularly wanted to see all the action at the other end of the pitch - perspectives are lost viewing from the Shed end - and especially the Burnley goal. A very well worked team goal, with at least 6 passes, always finding the Burnley player and from one side of the pitch to the other and half-way back again. Then I watched again on MoTD
My condolences to all Stephen's family and friends.
Exciting times.

Re: REPORT: Brilliant afternoon for Burnley at the Bridge
Just realised it but of the seven Premier League goals we've scored at Stamford Bridge, only Ben Mee's in minute 81 was scored at the Shed end.Paul Waine wrote: ↑Mon Nov 08, 2021 10:42 amI particularly wanted to see all the action at the other end of the pitch - perspectives are lost viewing from the Shed end - and especially the Burnley goal.
Re: REPORT: Brilliant afternoon for Burnley at the Bridge
Nice report Tony but no mention of Jay's chance to win the match which he bottled. Taking the ball to the corner with nearly four minutes to go was a poor (gutless) decision.

Re: REPORT: Brilliant afternoon for Burnley at the Bridge
Didn’t consider it worthy of mention to be honest but having drawn level at Chelsea against the odds, got into stoppage time, I’d suggest he was doing what most players would do in that situation.
I can imagine Billy Dougall & Jimmy McIlroy tut tutting you for calling him gutless.

Re: REPORT: Brilliant afternoon for Burnley at the Bridge
Fair report. Personally thought that Jay and Vyds both had chances to win it late on. Tony Gale on NBCSN was very critical of him not shooting. He said even if it went in row Z it helped wind the clock down. His words not mine. Bfs had the easier chance with the keeper on no mans land but to be fair he only had a split second to get his shot off. Neither were good chances but both were chances. Overall we were excellent and well worthy of a point
Re: REPORT: Brilliant afternoon for Burnley at the Bridge
I did wonder what the point was of their Covid "precautions". I guess it makes it sound like they are doing something but there was no checking that the Covid passes were actually real ones (just waving any QR code would get you through) and I don't think I saw a single fan wearing a mask in the ground.Paul Waine wrote: ↑Mon Nov 08, 2021 9:45 am40k is about Stamford Bridge capacity. I think Chelsea ran into problems with the surrounding properties when they looked at expanding and gave it up as too much effort.
Re: REPORT: Brilliant afternoon for Burnley at the Bridge
I thought he miscontrolled it and that decided him to go for the corner rather than take it on and shoot.

Re: REPORT: Brilliant afternoon for Burnley at the Bridge
Thanks as always CT for keeping us updated. I watched the full game recorded on SKY last night, and but for Pope and some poor finishing it could have been seven goals (as per their 7-0 win over Norwich). However the defence were outstanding, and Charlie probably played one of his best games. I know SD asks the full backs to play narrow which means the opposition can find their wing players easier. However one thing about Taylor-he rarely gets skinned. His recovery and speed are good, and his crossing seems to have improved. We also grew in the game finishing strongly, which suggests to me the belief in the team is coming back
