If you do the Guinness tour, bypass all the grain displays and head to the rooftop bar for the free pint. Then leave and get a pint cheaper at a pub. Have a good one!

As others have said, avoid Temple Bar, it is. Disney version of an Irish Bar. My favourite was the Palace Bar which is a much more authentic bar.

I visited Kilmainham, and was regarded as the devil incarnate by our young Irish guide.
I only asked a few simple questions , but the message they had to tell was hammered home forcefully.
It was a while ago, so all this to do stuff was in its infancy. Guinness brewery stuff is fairly predictable and dull.
Bus into phoenix park was ok, as was trinity college.
when you go further into the city , its a rancid dump with all the same issues as blight our towns. No diddly dee dee that's for sure.

Lived in Burnley for 18 years, and have now lived in Dublin for 9 years. I know not of this rancid dump you speak of.

It’s not perfect, but nowhere is. Your assessment is well wide of the mark however.

John Kavanagh - The Gravediggers - best Guiness I ever tasted 25+ years ago and is still raved about on travel sights.
Used to live very close to the Gravediggers. One to seek out for a traditional pub in the inner suburbs with plenty of history.

Certainly hard to get a decent pint of Timmy Taylor's outside of Keighley.
It happens so often to many brews.

Zizkov, be careful.
Up the other week and sister-in-law had her debit card cloned. Within 2 hours €700 had been spent. If you haven’t already I’d recommend one of those metal wallets.
BTW. Her bank were excellent and she got it back the next day.

Unfortunately you're trip will be ruined - https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-59305710
Didn't really have an impact tbf, we followed the sensible restrictions, and everywhere checked our Covid passes.

As i'm pushing 40, the need to be home by midnight, or at least not in the pub by then, really was not an issue

Cheers all for the tips!

We didn't make the Gaol as it was booked up ludicrously far in advance so that's one tip to nail down a reservation for that as soon as you book the trip really, and not less than a month before.

Instead of the Gaol we ended up at the Collins barracks which houses the National museum, including a very affecting Magdalene Laundries exhibit. The one where my orphaned Granny was brought up isn't there now, but that certainly painted a picture.

Emperors new clothes place for me.

Over hyped and over rated. Had far better times in Galway, Belfast and Cork tbh, without all the brain dead hen dos, stag weekends etc.

But each to their own of course. Hope you enjoy it.
I think living in Prague, i've developed something of a 6th sense for the staggy places and manage to avoid them pretty well

Don’t forget your mask, still compuslsory in most indoor settings, and pubs remain table service only.

Personal favourites are Bruxelles, No Name Bar.

Token is good, it’s a retro arcade bar with loads of decent games in, it’s between the Guinness and Jameson’s tours.

Ireland play Argentina at Rugby at the weekend, so Ballsbridge will Be buzzing during the day.

Enjoy, it’s a great city. If I wasn’t heading back from there at the weekend, I’d have met you for a pint.
Had a nice couple of pints in Bruxelles!
