Angel of theNorth was a good one. Very difficult to see last time I was past.

Salford rugby ground from there as well. It’s almost under the bridge.
It certainly is. Get plenty of time to see it if you end up stuck in traffic trying to get past every man and his dig going to the Trafford Centre.

As a child I used to always be amazed by the Stanlow Oil Refinery when my Mum and Dad drove us into North Wales, viewable from the M56. The sheer size and length of it and the plumes of fire coming from the towers always impressed me. At night it looked like a Bond villains lair with all the lights on too.
I worked at Stanlow for 4 years, but there was no motorway that far west in those days. My Mum went on a coach trip to Chester one time and saw Stanlow on their return journey. The flare lit up the sky as they went past: "You work in hell," she told me.

Of course, a little bit further east you would also see, what was then, ICI Runcorn. A similar skyline of steel towers, joined by pipes, steam, flares and also "spookily" lit at night. Times change, there was lots of good jobs along that stretch of north Cheshire back then.

When travelling on the M40 between Oxford and Beaconsfield , the " great sight " is above you - Red Kites are everywhere .

The child’s head sculpture is slowly being hidden by trees also unfortunately. It’s a great story though. Erected on a slag heap and with non of the usual nods to industry in its form that you often get from ‘heritage’ art. Won’t the eagles be buzzards or perhaps even red kites which have recovered from almost extinction amazingly?
I had been utterly convinced by the markings/patterns but upon checking further I now understand they have been red kites I've been observing. Still a wonderful thing to observe and sightings are becoming remarkably frequent.

As for other views from the motorways, I always used to look out for Camelot Theme Park when passing near Charnock Richards Services. Nothing to see the last few times I've passed though and it seems they've got almost everything down to try and deter the urban explorers. Only a few years since me and my Wife went in to look around. I couldn't resist the opportunity of one last look about and to reminisce over some wonderful childhood memories. I know the park closed a long time ago but losing the view feels a bit like losing it again somehow. Funny how poignant these feeling moments and sightings can be.

When I lived in Coventry, I always used to like seeing the "Lancashire" sign on the M6 as I was driving north - felt like I was almost home.
