As a separate matter it looks like Newcastle are serious for Aaron Ramsey now.

If they sign Trippier, Botsman and Ramsey this window they will be a different animal
Only if they can learn to defend properly. (Eddie Howe has entered the building ;) )

I'm hoping that the positive information from one of our trusted posters Ben Wickes comes to fruition. Any updates you can share as yet Ben ? We sure need some good news.

Has Ben got this stuff right before? Because what he is saying contradicts what Pace and Dyche are saying

I think what our board and manager say in public, will be far different to what is said behind closed doors.

That might be accurate to be honest. Has Ben been right before?

Sorry nothing to add on transfers but this is the window of all windows for me, we simply have to bring in some new faces that can improve the current team, the games are fast running out.

Im sure if he has, Ben or regular posters will be able to quote, or show these exclusives.

I can only ever recall a couple of people chatting about the takeover, but I can't recall anything as exclusive or totally out of the blue thst no one else was guessing or predicting, but I could be wrong.

I just wouldn't hold your breath for the transfer record be broken twice in a couple of weeks, and for you to be blown away with the signings.

If a random person knows, and has been informed from a someone else, there's chance quite a few people know and if quite few people know, no doubt those in the industry do to, and bits of journalists start doing links, or "whispers"

I hope I'm wrong, but I wasn't last year, so it'd be silly to start a new year off being wrong.

Newcastle links are all paper talk. Chelsea what Tripper and have been told no. They will make signings but Howe for me is the wrong manager to tighten them defensively.
As for us expect a couple of high profile loans and maybe the young lad from Sunderland - one for the future.
Whichever way you look at it we have saleable assets McNeil/Pope. For me I actually think Cornet would stay for one season..He will have 4 years left so only a huge offer would get him..
Question is will it be easier to rebuild in the Championship or Prem. With the parachute payments, big wages off the balance sheet and player sales..we would have a huge war chest in the league below.

Don't worry we've been told that Burnley will be breaking their transfer record at least twice with big signings so all will be well

We are concerning ourselves too much with which players our current key rivals like Newcastle might buy, and the results of clubs around us like Watford. However we simply need to change abject performances like Sundays into one seen two seasons ago, and we will simply move up the table. The future is in our hands

The pressure on Pace and Dyche is now quite intense. Two good quality signings in this window might keep us up. I agree that making signings in January can be complicated and difficult but the situation is getting desperate.

I’m still convinced that there is sufficient (central midfield) talent in the Championship and the Scottish Premiership to improve our starting 11 and that it would be less ‘complicated’ that trying to recruit foreign players.

Think we were linked with him a few windows ago, not a position we should be prioritising imo.

Might be a postion we need to look at now if Mee is stalling on a new contract.

Everton fans happy to see the back of him it appears. Reports that he said some rather unsavoury words towards his own fans after the Brighton game.

Not the most heart racing signing. But I guess he could do a job if we sold Tarks.

Collins is the man if we sell Tarks. This sounds like nonsense to me, especially with his attitude issues.

I can’t see it happening. Funds need to be prioritised elsewhere.

Would love it if we went after some promising strikers from Europe.
Undav and Nunez look to be having great seasons.

From Sky

Newcastle are discussing a fee in the region of £12m (plus add-ons) for Atletico Madrid full-back Kieran Trippier.

Newcastle's opening offer at the weekend was £10m.

The two clubs are yet to agree a fee but the Magpies are increasingly confident a deal can be struck.

At that price why aren't we looking

I'd love to have Trippier back here but given we are well stocked at right back the money really needs spending elsewhere- Never thought I'd say that.

Perhaps because we don't have £12 million to **** away on what'd be a rapidly depreciating asset - what do you think Tripps will be worth in 4 years time? - especially for a player whose position isn't one of our major problems/weaknesses at the moment.

We don’t need a right back as a priority, and certainly don’t need one at £12m plus a six-figure weekly salary - money we can’t afford.

Roberts has been signed as the longer-term replacement for Lowton and whilst we’re on right backs, I really hope Bardo stays at the club in a coaching role. I watch the warm ups and he seems to be a very popular guy and is always willing to assist with a drill or two to help the starting XI. There’s certainly something about his demeanour and approach within the squad that I think is worth keeping hold of when he decides his playing days are over.

can he play centre midfield or up front as a target man? no...? then we don't need him right now. We have 2/3 very good players already in his primary position, as much as I'd like him with us and not at NUFC it makes no sense to sign him even if we could

Even if we spend 30m, Does anyone have confidence Dyche can find a way into the team for them straight away?
The last 3 signings haven't.

I know Pace bought Cornet rather than Dyche but he still doesn't look to have found a position where he can affect the game more.
His goals are magic but managers need to buy players to slot straight into certain roles.

We are but it is clear to me that the 3rd and final relegation place, Im writing off Watford and Norwich, will be between us and the Mags. So their cheque book exploits are very relevant to our short term future in my mind.

The Holgate deal seems to be gathering quite a lot of traction on Twitter.

What do people thing of this potential signing? Seems a very strange one
Lots of mistakes in him.

Looks like he should be a modern day footballer but doesn't excel at anything.

Always have a decent punt on a yellow card for him when if I watch a live Everton game

Possibly means they will look to cash in on Tarkowski now? If we can get £10m for Tarks and Holgate for under 10 then it’s a good deal I think.

On Saturday Tarkowski played like a man who'd commenced talks with Newcastle, mind elsewhere and trying his best to ensure he had the best chance of playing in the premier league next season. Sadly it won't be with us.
