4 new cases of Covid for Burnley
4 new cases of Covid for Burnley
Burnley have 4 new cases of Covid within the squad, aswell as Sean Dyche and coach Steve Stone.
Nick Pope still hasn't trained, whilst Brownhill is a maybe.
They'll be another round if testing tomorrow, so a possibility of further cases for an already depleted squad.
The team for Huddersfield will be whatever we can possibly patch together.

Re: Steve Stone has Covid...
I hope they all recover and have mild symptoms.
Re: 4 new cases of Covid for Burnley
Tripple vaccinated only means the severity of the covud you contract is minimised.
You can still catch and spread it.

I think we would rather play this than add to our current back log of games.
With several players out, lots of the staff, there's probably a strong chance we might need a postponement for the league soon.
Also no better time to play the rest of the squad and some of the youngsters, if we go out so be it, we are down to our bare bones, and the league is the priority.

And, dare I say it, the cup could be a massive distraction at the moment, therefore we have nothing to lose. This year, more so than most, I firmly believe we will be better without it.

Re: 4 new cases of Covid for Burnley
What if the game is between two teams that aren't in the Premier League? Do you mean the FA have said there will be no FA Cup postponements? I understand that all registered players, including youth team are counted in determining if a club has got enough players to put up a team.claretandy wrote: ↑Thu Jan 06, 2022 6:35 pmThe premier league has told the teams that there will be no fa cup postponements.
Is there any risk of any of the games being called off because of snow or other bad weather?

The FA cup will no doubt need to be played whether we like it or not. But lets not be martyrs when it comes to League games at the price of relegation. When you see Palace trying to get a league game postponed citing COVID, then when made to play had just one change in the team plus Viera out, it shows you what our competitors are doing

Do our usual and give zero fecks about the cups? Just put the kids out and let them crack on.
Re: 4 new cases of Covid for Burnley
That's strange because when they announced the rescheduled games today they added this:claretandy wrote: ↑Thu Jan 06, 2022 6:35 pmThe premier league has told the teams that there will be no fa cup postponements.
Please note that if any of these teams' FA Cup third-round matches this weekend are postponed, their Premier League fixture listed below will be affected.
Re: 4 new cases of Covid for Burnley
Absolutely, I'm almost positive ( probably the wrong word ) that other teams would be bending any rules possible to suit themselves.warksclaret wrote: ↑Thu Jan 06, 2022 6:48 pmThe FA cup will no doubt need to be played whether we like it or not. I'm glad we are happy to field a side where possible.
But with several staff absent from coaches, physios and analytical I'm not sure how much we can or have done regards preparing.
It'll be a case of who's available and fitting them into some sort of team.
Even the lads coming back from covid might still have some after effects and not be 100%

If they'd any backbone the F.A. should have come down on Palace like a ton of bricks for only having one player missing, despite trying to get it called off.warksclaret wrote: ↑Thu Jan 06, 2022 6:48 pmThe FA cup will no doubt need to be played whether we like it or not. Hope the staff all have minor symptons,re the game with how this thing is spreading I'd have thought Huddersfield would have cases as well, I know some people who would be going on who have tested positive as well, not just the teams will be decimated I think the gate will.

Re: 4 new cases of Covid for Burnley
I think they’ll want to play the cup game so won’t kick up any fuss. If it was a league game this weekend I expect we’d be trying our best to get it cancelled
Re: 4 new cases of Covid for Burnley
There is a rational argument that governments around the world should allow the relatively mild Omicron variant to spread naturally especially among the non-vaccinated population.
There will still be some very sad individual tragedies but the rest of the population will develop a significant degree of ‘natural’ immunity.
Better for the unvaccinated in many poor countries to be exposed to a relatively mild variant than be exposed to a lethal new one.

Interesting to see if we get the cup game called off just so the Watford game can be when we have a better squad. Presumably we would play Huddersfield then instead.

Re: 4 new cases of Covid for Burnley
Firstly get well soon to all those players and staff who are ailing right now.
Secondly there's a difference in PL games and FA Cup ties, PL teams can only name a squad of 25 between each window, whereas for FA Cup ties they can select anybody from within their squads.
So I highly doubt the Huddersfield game is in fear of being called off, although in the present climate you can never be 100% certain.
A good chance for the youngsters to get a taste of 1st team action, as in the event of relegation we may be reliant on some of them next year. So Huddersfield is an ideal barometer of where they are in their development.

I'm sure Dyche would be quite happy for us to get beat on Saturday.MACCA wrote: ↑Thu Jan 06, 2022 6:25 pmI think we would rather play this than add to our current back log of games.

Must be played, even if you only have 14 youth players.

Not sure there is any real evidence that having had Covid there is then immunity from catching it again. From what I can glean on this issue ' Opinion is divided!'

Me my wife and 12 year old daughter all tested positive this week after dodging it for 2 years. Me and the wife are triple vaccinated and my daughter is vaccinated. My wife and I did our positive pcr on the 4th, neither of us are that bad. My daughter did a lateral flow this morning after 2 previous negative ones and tested positive. At the moment she's feeling the worst out of the three of us. Like the previous poster said the vaccines lessen the chance of serious illness. It really is rife out there now.

Re: 4 new cases of Covid for Burnley
The downside to that is by allowing the virus to percolate in such away more opportunity is given for it to mutate. That’s why there’s an increasing recognition that until vaccination is really driven home in poorer countries we will remain, to some extent, locked in this cycle.claret59 wrote: ↑Thu Jan 06, 2022 9:51 pmThere is a rational argument that governments around the world should allow the relatively mild Omicron variant to spread naturally especially among the non-vaccinated population.

Same as my household, literally in the space of 3 weeks it seems the majority of my family and friends have all had it, all ok though thankfully.Coshack wrote: ↑Thu Jan 06, 2022 11:30 pmMe my wife and 12 year old daughter all tested positive this week after dodging it for 2 years. Hope the daughters ok, I had a fever and terrible headache for 24 hours, slept that off and then just had a bit of a cough for 2-3 days.
