Funny one Carroll, as the main signing absolutely not but as someone to send on as a battering ram with Roberts trying to fling them on his head he’d be worth a do. Rather him than Barnes!

I'm surprised you'd be happy with swapping Chris Wood for Andy ******* CarrollNewcastleclaret93 wrote: ↑Thu Jan 13, 2022 9:49 pmApparently on 1k a week at the moment according to daily mail.
If we could bring him in on not a lot more could do a job till end of season.
Don’t get me wrong it’s not what I want at all. But we have to prioritise CM and RM this window.

Reading are 21st in the Championship. Andy Carroll has scored 1 goal. It’s the most ridiculous rumour I’ve ever seen from this club and we signed Crouch and Walters in the past.Burnleyareback2 wrote: ↑Thu Jan 13, 2022 10:11 pmSpeaking to a Reading fan - Carroll has been a real leader for them and hasn’t put a foot wrong. Agree regarding Southampton & Brentford another 1 palace at the start of the season with viera being new in the job & the rebuild they undertook some on here had their mortgage on palace being relegated whilst some of us remained silent observing them buying olise & guehi ect at pretty much a snip if you are smart at recruitment you don’t need to spend a fortune & get it right.warksclaret wrote: ↑Thu Jan 13, 2022 5:01 pmIts funny but we were recruiting better and then making profit on player sales towards the end of Howe's era ant the first few years of Dyche
We bought wisely with Heaton, Ward, Arfield, Barton, Jones (all frees), Austin,Trippier, Tarks, Keane, Vokes, Gray to mention a few
We sold wisely-Heaton,Austin, Ings, Keane, Gray, Vokes. These sales made us good money but the re-investment in new players halted about two years ago
A club like us CAN survive but its only by planning and being "smart" in having good scouts surveying the lower leagues and buying them before they become more sought after. Brentford as has been mentioned above have been superb at buying good prospects, developing them, then making a monstrous profit on them. Southampton are another example of a club that buys shrewdly and makes good profits on the sale of certain players. As a result both Saints & Brentford have enough in the bag already this season to fight another day in the PL. At the start of the season they were to me likely to be in the botton two or three.Whilst SD has performed heroics for about 8 years I cannot help feeling that his stubbornness on which players he is prepared to work with has seriously come home to roost and make the job of survival almost impossible

The problem with Carroll particularly now in the PL in 2022 where refs/var exist he would be a red card just waiting to happen in every game

All three of our strikers are awful for the PL in 2022 - Jay will start as he is the only one that is fit. Carroll and Defoe need to disappear from any conversation this window, we’re done if we sign them.kentonclaret wrote: ↑Thu Jan 13, 2022 11:20 pmWhilst I am not advocating the signing of Andy Carroll it is worth noting that Jay Rodriguez has netted 1 PL goal in his last 44 appearances for Burnley, but presumably fans are quite happy with him leading the line on Saturday?

Knows the league. Match fit.
Has been widely written off so something to prove.
Would be a weapon on the end of Robert’s long throws, set pieces etc. And with Jay being our only fit striker it’s essential to add numbers.
I’m not opposed to this as long as the real money is spent upgrading key CM and wing deficiencies.

I'd have Andy Carroll in a heartbeat, yes he's 33 but we'd get 18 months out of him, he's bigger nastier and more skillful than anything we've got at the moment, once we bring in more player's he'd be brilliant to bring off the bench in the premier league or championship remember at the end of this season we loose both Vydra and Rodriguez., no brainer for me, Reading have got him fit and I've read on various Web sites he only takes a wage of 1 grand a week at reading so jump in and offer him Premier league football for a few grand more, nothing to lose and I bet he out scores 25 million pound Chris Wood

Absolutely embarrassing if we seriously swap Wood for Carroll
Re: January 2022 Burnley Transfer Window Rumours - Links - Discussion
Back up forward for a few grand a week, until we replace Wood...... Vydra is out for a few weeks Barnes is finished that leaves Rodriguez, we need someone in for a quick fix with premier league experience and he fits the bill.
Plus him and Rodriguez up front together, the deadly man bun duo

Carroll would be a great signing. On his day, absolutely unplayable. Our best signings have all come with points to prove.
As others have said, zero risk pretty much. Our remaining strikers have 1 goal between them this season....

Presumably you were also advocating the Lennon resigning as someone who ‘fits the bill’ and ‘pads out the squad’. Carroll has scored around 1 goal over the last 2 seasons, yet suddenly he’s the man to bring in? I was hoping the arrival of Cornet and departure of Wood was going to signal a change in our approach to signing younger, technically better footballers.

We can't suddenly change our whole squad's ability and way of playing in January. No point bringing in a technical small striker, if our whole game plan is built around being direct. The rest of our players are able to play direct, they aren't suddenly going to turn into Man City.
Summer is the time to change the game plan

I'm talking about padding the squad out with a proven top flight goal scorer for the rest of the season on very little wages, at the moment the other alternative is to play Lennon up front who is nor a striker is older than Carroll and is to small to play upfront in a lump it football team, Carroll ticks all the boxes SHORT TERM not a long term star signingRVclaret wrote: ↑Fri Jan 14, 2022 6:12 amPresumably you were also advocating the Lennon resigning as someone who ‘fits the bill’ and ‘pads out the squad’. Thing is we are a bit snookered right now. We’ve just over two weeks to sort something out or we’re left with a striker who’s not scored in the prem for one and a half seasons, and two sick notes. We’d all love to get someone in that a bit more dynamic but chances are we’ll get rinsed.
If Carroll comes he may be an adequate stop gap till the end of the season, I don’t think we’d be any worse off than if we’d kept Wood and his form from the first half of the season carried over. Let’s be honest he stank the place out and was a shadow of the player who scored 10+ goals every season previously.
But all this is as well as the fact we desperately need to add to what we have else where on the pitch. Bring in a couple of midfielders that are upgrades on what we have and we may finish January stronger over all.
Carroll might just do a job for us but we are in a shocker of a position right now.

We've got previous for resigning former players and he's certainly improved on the scoring front since leaving.

We’re not swapping though?
We’re reacting to losing our only striker who-has-scored-3-goals-this-season-while-looking-disinterested.
If I’m having a “who’s available to keep us up” staff meeting they are Carroll, Costa, Nketiah, Ramsey, Barkley, Wilshire and any mate of Maxwel from Ligue Un or the Ivory Coast.
Your moaning along such structured and mainstream lines is frankly boring.

But we have to be realistic about where we are at this exact moment in time. I want to see the changes that most Burnley fans want, and we have to move away from this Craggy Island over 75s priest 5 a side team thing we’ve got going on, but that takes a bit more planning than we’ve done so far.

I get your point regarding Palace but the money they spent is still far beyond our means. They spent upwards of 80 million before this season got underway, coupled with the 20 million the season before on Eze, that's 100 million.
