Personally, I'm delighted. Our great disciplinary record wouldn't last long with that thug in the team.ElectroClaret wrote: ↑Fri Jan 28, 2022 10:11 amHaving a medical there today or this weekend, according

Cornet is a more naturally right sided midfielder
I think they’re substitutes for their countries so get less minutes.claretandbluesky wrote: ↑Fri Jan 28, 2022 10:22 amInteresting that their scoring record at international level drops away significantly. Neither in the age range we’d been expecting but certainly more likely to hit the ground running than youngsters and could be significant contributors to a quick return if we got relegated. In the short term probably astute signings if they go through. Maybe a hint that McNeil is off come the summer.
He’s Dutch. My post you replied to was about how glam it is to be living in Manchester, I don’t see a life in Holland and then in tiny Wolfsberg as a problem.
If Weghorst was at Gawthorpe yesterday as suggested I'd imagine they were doing the photos and welcome video hopefully.claptrappers_union wrote: ↑Fri Jan 28, 2022 9:29 amIf we are at the work permit stage, the deal will done and the contract signed, subject to work permit. Just a case of that being processed now and there shouldn’t be any issues there
Do you think ManU would loan Lingard to Burnley and pay us a "going down" bonus of £12.5 million if we beat Newcastle and send them down on the last day?Newcastleclaret93 wrote: ↑Fri Jan 28, 2022 10:23 amCould the top 6 clubs offer us players on loan to help relegate newcastle?
They've probably clocked on that sending loan players to sit on our bench won't benefit them or their players.Newcastleclaret93 wrote: ↑Fri Jan 28, 2022 10:23 amCould the top 6 clubs offer us players on loan to help relegate newcastle?
claretandbluesky wrote: ↑Fri Jan 28, 2022 10:26 amWe tend to forget Wood was a seasoned international with nearly a goal every other game at that level.

I think they could offer us someone of the Barkley/Lingard type at a discounted rate in the hope it helps us relegate newcastle.Paul Waine wrote: ↑Fri Jan 28, 2022 10:27 amDo you think ManU would loan Lingard to Burnley and pay us a "going down" bonus of £12.5 million if we beat Newcastle and send them down on the last day?
UTC
Agents take a % of the fee or signing on fee, it’s generally not an additional charge as such. In most cases the player pays the agent fee of the duration of his contract, very complex these days.
I know a guy from the north west who moved to Netherlands and couldn't stand it there. He said he missed the hills, there were no hills in Netherlands and everything was flat.CrosspoolClarets wrote: ↑Fri Jan 28, 2022 10:25 amHe’s Dutch. If he was from Rome or Madrid I would be more concerned for example.
It’s a fair point. Have they got any central midfielders they can lend us?Newcastleclaret93 wrote: ↑Fri Jan 28, 2022 10:29 amI think they could offer us someone of the Barkley/Lingard type at a discounted rate in the hope it helps us relegate newcastle.
You can’t be seen to be sticking up for Wood you know! Hopefully Weghorst can transfer his goal scoring from the Bundesliga. I like the look of him on the videos. Fingers crossed.Lancasterclaret wrote: ↑Fri Jan 28, 2022 10:28 amRemember that Wood scored 10 plus Premier League goals for the past four seasons
Thats quite a challenge for a new striker
Absolutely and I’m very excited at the prospect of him coming.Iloveyoubrady wrote: ↑Fri Jan 28, 2022 10:39 amYes but they are very impressive in a league which is still a very good standard. 20 bundesliga goals last season, 35 goal involvements...
See this said a lot, but I don’t think Carroll’s disciplinary record is anything to get worked up about. Obviously we all saw him lose his head at the turf but as far as I can find he’s only had 3 red cards in his entire career. Hardly Arsenal worthy.Gordaleman wrote: ↑Fri Jan 28, 2022 10:14 amPersonally, I'm delighted. Our great disciplinary record wouldn't last long with that thug in the team.
With nearly half a season gone I would suggest 7 goals from our new striker (this season ), would replace Wood at his best and if he gets 3 then he has mirrored this season.Lancasterclaret wrote: ↑Fri Jan 28, 2022 10:28 amRemember that Wood scored 10 plus Premier League goals for the past four seasons

Great postspt_claret wrote: ↑Fri Jan 28, 2022 10:45 amI follow quite a lot of overseas football, I was extremely excited back when we were linked with Defour, struck me as a real step up.
Orsic I don't know bags about but certainly seems an exciting if mildly short term fix.
The Seferovic loan looks unlikely to me but would be a very good signing. He has impressed me every time I've seen him especially at international level.
Weghorst would be a coup. He was my dark horse pick for Euros golden boot, underwhelmed in the end but the Dutch side is still rebuilding, he is a superb player. Despite his size he is much more technically gifted than Wood, I would almost consider him a poor man's Zlatan. Would be delighted with him.
Even just signing Weghorst and Orsic would have a real spread of formation options, 442, 4321, 4441, 433, all with the same XI on the pitch. To the people saying "but he's out of position", positional rigidity is not a prerequisite for any team or player. Dyche has employed unusual positional setups before despite his tendency for 442- Arfield was more a mezzola (half-wide) than out and out wide man, and we switched to 433 late Vs Chelsea to great success.
I've been very critical of Pace, and still think we desperately need at least one centre midfielder ideally two (and Dyche clearly knows this too) but if these deals come off I will be delighted to retract a large number of my reservations about the financial aspects at the club.
Cornet is interesting in that Chris Brass revealed recently in an interview that we were monitoring him (Cornet) when he (Brass) was scouting at Burnley. But Dyche has said many times that the previous board (chairman) were reluctant to use the European market.ClaretMov wrote: ↑Fri Jan 28, 2022 5:29 amI don't know if I've missed something or I'm being a bit slow but how come we are linked with most of our targets from abroad, what's changed, have we new scouts. I know the better bargains are from out of England with fee's and wages compared to players even in the championship and I'm 100 percent not complaining its fantastic, but it's not what we've done In all the year's we've played in the premier league, how are we finding these player's like Cornet now, long may it continue.
It’s the same mentality that opposing fans have of our players being “thugs” due to their players being on the end of physical but fair tacklesRicardoMontalban wrote: ↑Fri Jan 28, 2022 10:42 amSee this said a lot, but I don’t think Carroll’s disciplinary record is anything to get worked up about. I’m just glad we’re signing someone that appears to be significantly better than him.
fair tackles from our players is a little different than Andy Carroll swinging his elbows around.... not what I would call fair challenges.

That’s not the point I’m making
Yes, but the standard we have to replace is 10 plus goalsbobinho wrote: ↑Fri Jan 28, 2022 11:06 amYeah, but ten goals man!!! TEN GOALS!!!!
Look, Wood has gone. At the money mentioned, it’s a marvellous deal, absolutely marvellous. Had it been £7m, I’d be annoyed, but it was £27m and that is simply outrageous. Even Andy Carroll until the end of the season would have been an upgrade on the Chris Wood we sold for £27. He HAD been a good goal scorer, and he HAD been a good outlet, but not anymore. Going on about ‘ten goal’ Chris Wood is akin to talking about Billy Hamilton’s 10+ in ‘82. Neither are capable of that anymore.
Had he still been here, I’d be advocating a period of rest for Wood, as him playing like he had been (and has so far continued to do for Newcastle) was like us starting a game with 10 men. Not only wasn’t he scoring, he wasn’t doing anything else either. Wood has gone and Wood is done. Wood is in the past and his stats are as irrelevant today as King Billy’s.
It’s what happens next that is important. If weghorst comes in and only gets 8 next season will we be calling it a failure? I sincerely hope not.

Not necessarily from one player. Our issue in the past is that we’ve been far too reliant on Wood for goals - very little from anywhere else.Lancasterclaret wrote: ↑Fri Jan 28, 2022 11:09 amYes, but the standard we have to replace is 10 plus goals
Take those goals away and we go down
I agree with the £25-£27 million being a good deal for us, but now we have to see if we can actually replace his goals
So. Analogy. I have a VW GTI MK V from 2008.it’s a turbo and isn’t as great as it once was. Someone comes in offers me 8 Grand because it’s a car and loved by racers. Cars worth 5 Grand maybe. With that 8 grand, I buy a steady Camry, a basic truck, and a starter car for my daughter.ClaretPete001 wrote: ↑Fri Jan 28, 2022 11:03 amInteresting to debate with some caveats..
Firstly, it's not Alan Pace's vision it is a lot of media speculation. By all accounts the Wood sale came as a shock and I guess much of this is being paid for by the Wood sale so it's probably more of a knee jerk reaction than a vision. Secondly the media is yet again reporting on the financial problems at Burnley should we get relegated and that is related to Alan Pace's vision, thirdly anything looks good on a football forum if you squint hard enough and finally you only have to wait until Monday to know the reality of the situation.
