Virgin Media price increase

Just a heads up, most customers have received a letter saying their price is going up. If you ring up before 15th February and press through the options to remove services or leave them, the automated voice will offer you a discount that wipes out the increase for the next six months.

I stayed on the line and went to cancellations and ended up with an even better deal. I'm paying £93 p/m for 2 x boxes, 200mb broadband, the full TV package with sports (not HD) and movies (HD). Feel free to use that deal for haggling, I think it's pretty good.

I have tried numerous times to get through to the cancellations team but never had my call answered. Any tips on how to get through?

Ring a different department and ask to get put through on their internal switchboard.

Letters are going out to Sky customers shortly too to inform them of price increases.....the first bills that will show price increases are bills from 17th March.....

I was having same problem then got through on a Saturday morning straight away to retentions and they let me renegotiate a new deal. You can also do it via text but takes ages for any reply!

Binned off the whole Sky malarkey in November..had it since 2009 and don't miss the whole shebang one little bit.

Terrestrial now with cheap broadband deal... Should have switched years ago.

That's the first time I've ever had a call to Virgin Media that wasn't troublesome. Thanks Fretters, I've had my discount applied for the broadband.

Sky put mine up to £77 last month so I rung and asked for a better deal, was told £63 was best they could do so asked to cancel my contract. Within a week of cancelling the standard email had been received offering the full package with HD for £36 for the next 18 months.

I have now started my 3rd 18 month period on this kind of rate.

I've always got through but usually have a bit of wait. I just put my phone's speaker on and crack on with something else.

My BT TV went up but they've added Netflix as part of the VIP package so was quite happy to stay with it

Just done the same with Virgin, however got put through to disconnections and completed the disconnection details, I presume they will be back in touch in a week or so as they said the disconnection date is in March.

Absolute shambles of a customer service.

Rang up to renew my broadband, a lady called Anne could barely speak a word of English confirmed my new bill would be £31.25.

Email confirmation 2 days later signing me up for 18 months at £40. I can't even be arsed ringing back to discuss the price I agreed.

I usually do that, play hard ball and actually cancel as they usually ring before the end of the 30 day notice and offer an even better deal. But, last time I tried it, I had to ring them on day 29 and accept their original deal with my tail between my legs.

Renewed my Internet with them recently to 1gb speed, never had any issues with them.

I've never rung, but if they are going up again I need to enter the fray.

I’ve always haggled but sometimes they do just go through with the disconnection so it’s not guaranteed you’ll get a better deal if you don’t back down.

0333 7594444 is the one I was given on the email and you get through straight away.

Be prepared to cancel if they don't get the deal you want, they will then email you a better offer within the 30 days notice you have to give

Thanks for posting this, I'm with Virgin, tried several times in the last year or so to cajole them into a price reduction without success and was trying to build up the impetus to switch (inability to keep email address driving inertia) so gave it one more go on the back of your message and got a reduction of 20% or so, which will do to be going on with...

Ok, so after me holding firm and going through to disconnection and agreeing to disconnect, Virgin have just called me and offered me an upgrade from 200m internet to 350m and reduction from £37 per month to £30 per month for the next 18 months :D

If Virgin Media have just emailed you saying they're raising your TV/Broadband prices, you can prevent that instantly without speaking to anybody. (self.CasualUK)

Give them a call on 0800 052 2001.

Go through the options and until you get to "I'm thinking of leaving", choose that and you should get a message saying "Press 1 for an instant discount of £x", where £x is the amount they're increasing your package cost by.

If you're patient you can hang on and speak to somebody and haggle a better discount, but if you're happy with your current price/package this is a quick and easy way to prevent the price increase.

Similar thing happened to me. I was paying £25 for broadband. They were going to increase to £52. Said I would cancel and ended up getting a deal for £35. They then sent me a letter saying £45. I rang back complained and the ended up doing me 18 months at £24 which was cheaper than my original deal.

Rang VM this morning to report a fault with V6 box connectivity and after resolving the issue (for now at least) the VM guy asked out of the blue if I'd received the price increase letter.

I told him yes and without prompting he said he'd see what he could do package wise.

I've ended up with 250m meg broadband (handy as I work from home) V6 and tivo box upgrades, extra tv channels inc BT sport, landline, and O2 sim card with unlimited minutes & data included for the £4 a month more than I pay now (£68)

So, if you don't get anywhere or keep ending up on hold for ages waiting for 'disconnections dept.' might be worth ringing up and reporting a fault as seems you get through quicker.
