That's not quite true, I saw something in him clearly, it's taken time for him to find the right club at the right time, I thought he shouldn't have threw in the towel at Watford. Everton he started well, on a hiding to nothing with their squad and fan expectation though, poisoned chalice as all have found since Moyes. As for lack of nous, that's just rubbish ain't it.taio wrote: ↑Sun Feb 06, 2022 11:51 amYou have distanced yourself from your Silva comments in the past when it suits and criticised others for bringing it up. I thought it was a pretty decent performance.

Re: I thought it was a pretty decent performance.
Last part of the BBC's report on the match fair sums it up.
Dyche can only hope the Weghorst and Cornet combination eventually click into gear as the lack of goals is a clear threat to their five-year stay in the top flight.
In patches, both looked decent, without truly getting on top of the Watford backline.
And Burnley's hopes were not helped by repeatedly gifting their opponents possession with poor passing under minimal pressure.
Mee was particularly wasteful, which was not the way he would have wanted to mark a decade of outstanding service.
He came perilously close to turning the ball into his own goal and was relieved that first, Aaron Lennon stopped the ball, before his central defensive partner Tarkowski cleared it.
Substitute Jay Rodriguez steered a header wide of the far post in the latter stages, although by then, it appeared both sides had settled for a point.

Re: I thought it was a pretty decent performance.
Absolutely no doubt whatsoever that last night's game was dictated by the weather. We didn't play well but for someone to suggest that once inside Turf Moor we were somehow 'cushioned' from the elements is pathetic. The combination of rain and driving wind throughout the game and getting worse in the second half was as bad as anything I can recall in over 60 years of going on the Turf. Some posts have suggested they've encountered worse and so I'll ask the question again as to where and when?

Re: I thought it was a pretty decent performance.
One of those games where if we weren’t in the position we were in, we would just look at it and say… ‘decent point considering the atrocious conditions’.
Tuesday night I would actually take these conditions as a preference…. but last night not so much.

Re: I thought it was a pretty decent performance.
Last night was full of extenuating circumstances.
The weather was the kind that pundits tend to say guarenteed a turgid stalemate.
Cornet had to adapt from Cameroon to that.
Weghorst had his first game at that level of physicality (even Bayern don’t defend that physically).
Roberts had his first home league start.
Stephens was parachuted into a midfield two.
Watford had a new manager bounce.
The fans were well up for it after two months without a game and the atmosphere changed gradually throughout when it became a struggle.
So when we adjust for all that I am quite pleased with a point even though with a little more craft we would have had three.
I get a little frustrated when our more creative players don’t create anything of note (Dwight constantly jogging back to his own half with the ball for example before trying a trick in the wrong area that loses the ball). But by and large they did OK considering the above. It makes the Dyche Out thread ridiculous.

Re: I thought it was a pretty decent performance.
Agree with most of that, my opinion altho desperate for points, we have been playing reasonably well as of late, except for what counts putting the ball in the back of the net, yesterday with those conditions it was a lottery, i would put that performance on the back burner, we know on his day Cornet can score goals, and even though in my opinion Wout Weghorst put a decent shift in, it wasn,t the kind of day to impress his new employers and supporters alike. move on.

Re: I thought it was a pretty decent performance.
I’m not sure but if there’s science behind that fair enough, then again what does science matter it doesn’t with certain posters regarding mask wearing, in terms of being less exposed I’d rather be in a football stadium encircled than in a wide open field but if the science suggests I’m wrong I can’t argue,
Re: I thought it was a pretty decent performance.
I'm sure some don't actually watch or understand football.
Their lives must be very dull if they think watching Burnley is fun or entertaining.
Re: I thought it was a pretty decent performance.
I imagine playing football anywhere outside in Burnley last night would've been difficult. Harder to do it effectively than posting letters.Jakubclaret wrote: ↑Sun Feb 06, 2022 12:13 pmI said/meant more cushioned as opposed to an exposed field or somewhere out in the open, make no bones last night was bad everywhere.

People still manage do things effectively without blaming the weather, in Hertfordshire it must be dry & sunny all the time & that mindset carries itself geographically even when the reality is far different.

Just having a look on the Watford forum them southern softies aren’t half making a song & dance about the weather as much as we are, odd comments about it being crap, most of it humble honesty that they know the team are lousy & going down.
Re: I thought it was a pretty decent performance.
Because there were many more Burnley than Watford supporters at the game last night who experienced the weather. Those like you who watched it on the tele wouldn't have got a true sense of the difficult conditions especially a couple of hundred miles away.Jakubclaret wrote: ↑Sun Feb 06, 2022 12:47 pmJust having a look on the Watford forum them southern softies aren’t half making a song & dance about the weather as much as we are, odd comments about it being crap, most of it humble honesty that they know the team are lousy & going down.

I ventured out the poor weather didn’t start at 6pm & finish at 8pm it was blowing like a banshee well before 6 & well after 8, maybe the Watford fans aren’t bothered about weather & are more honest.

Re: I thought it was a pretty decent performance.
A mixed metaphor there but more importantly if you were not on Turf Moor last night then you have no idea how difficult the weather conditions were for playing football. The pitch was good, though obviously soaked, but to compare controlling a football and passing a football(two skills vital to anyone purporting to be involved in a game.e of football) to someone's ability to deliver letters and parcels is quite frankly laughable.

Re: I thought it was a pretty decent performance.
Decent performance, what we lacked was confidence, risk taking and for players to take responsibility- they felt the pressure of this game.
It was well into the 2nd half before anyone dared to take a player on, up u til then it was a case of passing the ball to someone else to make sure you didn’t make a mistake.
Dwight was hiding from the ball, Roberts had a good game but didn’t want to risk beating a player, Lennon eventually made an attempt and Tarks had that 1 run forward.
I remain hopeful that we will go into the next 2 homes games with a little less pressure

Watford never seemed to have a problem with things, I find it strange how 1 set (some) are blaming it on the weather & 1 set are hardly mentioning it & being honest.
Re: I thought it was a pretty decent performance.
Watford weren't good either and found it difficult because of the conditions too. As already explained the vast majority of Watford fans weren't at the game and we nowhere near Burnley.Jakubclaret wrote: ↑Sun Feb 06, 2022 1:27 pmWatford never seemed to have a problem with things, I find it strange how 1 set (some) are blaming it on the weather & 1 set are hardly mentioning it & being honest.

You're saying it like we'd have played better without the wind, there's absolutely nothing to back up that, refer to Norwich at home and Newcastle away. Stephens didn't give the ball to Watford in our final third because of the wind, It's desperately clutching at straws.taio wrote: ↑Sun Feb 06, 2022 1:34 pmWatford weren't good either and found it difficult because of the conditions too. Re: I thought it was a pretty decent performance.
Of course Watford had problems with the elements. Anyone trying to play football in those conditions would. Their manager admitted it was a problem. There was little difference, if any, between trying to play football in an open field and trying the same in the 'cushioned' environment that was Turf Moor last night.Jakubclaret wrote: ↑Sun Feb 06, 2022 1:27 pmWatford never seemed to have a problem with things, I find it strange how 1 set (some) are blaming it on the weather & 1 set are hardly mentioning it & being honest.

Pope was the busier goalkeeper
I thing Hodgson could have been in goal for Watford yesterday.
The issue isn't the weather its our lack of creating any real chances.
I csn than of our last real created goal
Re: I thought it was a pretty decent performance.
Im saying the conditions adversely affected the game without any doubt. We may or may not have played better without that weather. I believe we and Watford would whereas you will think the opposite. Neither of us know.KRBFC wrote: ↑Sun Feb 06, 2022 1:54 pmYou're saying it like we'd have played better without the wind, there's absolutely nothing to back up that, refer to Norwich at home and Newcastle away. Re: I thought it was a pretty decent performance.
I have absolutely no idea how we might have played on a windless evening. Absolutely none. Not too sure what Norwich game and Newcastle game have to do with it either. We didn't play well but to imply that the appalling weather conditions didn't affect the overall quality/standard.of play is naive to say the least.KRBFC wrote: ↑Sun Feb 06, 2022 1:54 pmYou're saying it like we'd have played better without the wind, there's absolutely nothing to back up that, refer to Norwich at home and Newcastle away. Re: I thought it was a pretty decent performance.
I thought Tarkowski had an excellent game last night. He'll get exposed when he moves to a ''bigger club'' like shaky hokey cokey Michael Keane did. They aren't 1 on 1 defenders, too slow. Good in a Dyche team.
Re: I thought it was a pretty decent performance.
It's easier to pass the ball 5-10 yards in wind/rain than it is to launch it 50/60 with accuracy. We launched itSilkyskills1 wrote: ↑Sun Feb 06, 2022 2:04 pmI have absolutely no idea how we might have played on a windless evening. Absolutely none. Re: I thought it was a pretty decent performance.
Your onfield expertise concluded recently he was an overrated lump. Great knowledge.
Re: I thought it was a pretty decent performance.
Tarkowski has consistently showed he's one of our best players. You under rate him because of your lack of knowledge. As for Keane, he was very good for us - I couldn't give a f**k what he's done since because that doesn't change how effective he was here.
Re: I thought it was a pretty decent performance.
Keane and Tarkowski have been good for us, they fit the system. I think Tarkowski has had a poor season by his usual standards, I also don't like him from that interview so that certainly clouds my opinion at times but clearly not all the time because I gave him an 8 for last nights performance and MOTM. He's still vastly overrated on here and he's a lump.
Re: I thought it was a pretty decent performance.
Pretty much every player has had a poor season by their usual standards. Doesn’t alter the fact Tarkowski has been one of our best players (or using your mentality least worst) this season. He was MOM last night and against Arsenal. You wanted him dropping based on your onfield expert knowledge that only you recognises.KRBFC wrote: ↑Sun Feb 06, 2022 2:28 pmKeane and Tarkowski have been good for us, they fit the system. Re: I thought it was a pretty decent performance.
Passing a ball 5/10 yards or 50/60 yards was affected by the dreadful conditions. I'm not defending our overall limp performance but I am seeing extenuating circumstances last night. I have and will hopefully continue to see games in all sorts of weather conditions, it's part of the 'draw' of the game for me but last nights' was pushing the boundaries of what is for me, acceptable.
I'm still waiting for the games those posters have stated they've seen played in worse conditions. Any takers?

The only one that springs to mind is Hull away when Deary scored the winner but pretty sure that was just torrential rain and it didn’t have the gale force winds like last night.Silkyskills1 wrote: ↑Sun Feb 06, 2022 2:39 pmPassing a ball 5/10 yards or 50/60 yards was affected by the dreadful conditions. Re: I thought it was a pretty decent performance.
On the plus side our defending was solid enough.
The negative part for me was seeing so many passes go astray with the ball finding more often than not opposition players .
We lost our best opportunity to beat Watford on the 15th December 2021.
