I'll be 70 in a couple of months time. I don't pretend about anything. We are in an extremely worrying position and maybe even that is understating it. However, the OP came on to provide a suggestion of survival to which, of course, everyone can reply to. But it doesn't/ didn't require the 'get real, we're doomed' message which is as regular as a Boris Johnson lie from you. It is/was an opportunity to project a slightly less hostile message. I go to the match with my family including a 10 year old football daft lad and not once have I or will I suggest to him that 'we're down''. I cannot recall a post from you that has not had the tone of despair, despondency and defeat.Jakubclaret wrote: ↑Thu Feb 10, 2022 1:25 pmOffering a realistic view you just get derided that you are negative, you are better off pretending to be positive even if you don’t believe it, just say everything’s hunky dory & keep people happy.

Don't think there's much chance of Newcastle going down now really. We need to string a few wins together and hope either Everton, Brentford or Leeds get dragged into it.

18 games left. 10 home. 8 away. Let’s write off four of the home games and one away game ( Liverpool Chelsea Man City Spurs Spurs) on the basis that it’s unlikely we will get any points from those games. That’s leaves 13 games all of which on our day in my opinion we would expect to get at least a point:
Home
Leicester
Wolves
Newcastle
Villa
Southampton
Everton
Away
Brentford
Brighton
Palace
Watford
West Ham
Villa
Norwich
Now can we win six and say draw four of those 13 to take us to 36 points? With glass half full and we play like we did second half the other night I say we’ve a decent chance. And if we can pick up an unexpected point or two ( Spurs home and away perhaps) from the games I’ve written off then 38 points must be there or there abouts enough unless of course all the others around us go on great runs. I’d say right now it’s really in the balance as to whether we survive or not and yes it’s going to take a turn around of some magnitude to get the wins I’m referring to here but looking at those fixtures why not? Beat Newcastle Southampton Everton Brentford Watford Norwich. Draw Leicester Villa at home Wolves and Brighton or Palace away. UTC

Agree we can't afford to write any games off, and in recent games we've picked up results against Arsenal, Man Utd & West Ham, so we can definitely pull a shock or two out of the fire, and given our current plight we might well have to.

Realistic in your opinion! Look you are calling people fantasists for having the opposite opinion to you, you’re as bad. We are all entitled to opinions nobody should criticise or call anyone for having a different one whether that be positive or negative.Jakubclaret wrote: ↑Thu Feb 10, 2022 1:25 pmOffering a realistic view you just get derided that you are negative, you are better off pretending to be positive even if you don’t believe it, just say everything’s hunky dory & keep people happy.

For what it is worth I think everyone agrees we are in a precarious position and it is probable that we will go down I think EVERY season in the prem for us has been the same allbeit we are struggling more than normal this season. Can we stay up? 100% and I have a sneaky suspicion we will, I accept some will not agree which is fine but when you look at our remaining games they aren’t as hard as they could have been!

Does whining about something you have no control over ever change the outcome ?
Re: We ca do this
Form is like turning round an oil tanker. It doesn't just happen overnight. First we stop leaking goals (which we have been lately )and then build on that. Thankfully Dyche knows this. If you check our form prior to all the postponements, we were starting to do this, granted draws, but baby steps. This is far from over IMHO. Brentford have been in freewill and I don't get the Everton can't get involved. I like Lampard, I think he will go on to have a good career as a manager but this is a whole different ball game. The lads fought like lions against Utd. UTC

It’s not always been like that with not attending & you don’t need to go to the games to find out what’s going on. I probably know more now with not attending than I did before the knee barminess.

There's so much right about what you've written and hopefully the tanker has finished turning. No more baby steps!

Re: We ca do this
We'll not give up under Dyche, but you can't have the home form we've had and survive. We've played the easiest home games and got very little. I know some people say it doesn't matter who the three are if it's not Burnley, but I cannot see 3 worse teams or relegation candidates. Delighted to be proved wrong, but afraid I don't think we can do it. Not particularly glum about it, it was becoming pretty clear we couldn't compete financially even after 5 or 6 years of prem money.
Re: We ca do this
This is a post I like. I looked at the list of teams there and thought that if we play like we can, we could beat 6-8 of those sides.Carport wrote: ↑Thu Feb 10, 2022 7:08 pm18 games left. 10 home. 8 away. A few draws and some bonus points from the removed sides and it's still possible. You've given me some positivity and I thank you!

Re: We ca do this
I’m relatively confident of staying up. We’re not losing and we’re not leaking goals. Our team is packed with experience of these situations, and Dyche has said there has not been a crisis meeting.
That’s all positive for me. We only need that oil tanker to be seen by the others sailing in the flotilla to be turning and they’ll start to feel the pressure. Pressure turns into mistakes. Meanwhile we have nothing to lose and positivity is it’s own momentum.
That said, as for escape acts, two thoughts from me
- the best ever was Leicester. They went from down to a consistent top 10 act
- SD greatest achievement ever? Meh….. if he can get his team to engineer an escape from here he’s culpable for not getting that performance level out of the players more consistently across the season. Don’t get me wrong, I want him more than any other manager in this situation, but this keeps happening, so he has to look at himself as to why. Let’s not say the lack of recruitment, the 2nd half of season escape act performance shows a capability in those players, by definition

We certainly can now, I must admit my faith waivered over the bleak Christmas period, but what a response from all and sundry in recent weeks.
Strong jaw alive and well. Now let's push on and seal our survival.

Re: We ca do this
Looking at our last 6 results, we've 2W, 3D, 1L with a goal difference of +2. 5 of the teams are in the top 9 and we were unlucky t and lose against the second best team in the Premier League because their goalie played a blinder.
Not exactly relegation form. I'm a lot more confident now that we will stay up at the expense of Brentford or Leeds.

Next two games for Brentford are winnable
Not so for Leeds, Newcastle and Watford
By Sun 6th March we will have a good idea, as games played almost evens out

Form over the last 10 games. Form over the last 6 is even more in our favour. Whilst it counts for very little, it does show how well Sean and the Boys are doing of late.

Re: We ca do this
It never works like that though, most of our relegation rivals will have looked at man u, spurs and probably even Brighton and thought we'd get zero points.
Re: We ca do this
March could well be a decisive month for us. We have 4 games and 3 of them at the Turf. I honestly believe we can get 10 points from them if our current form continues and we can avoid injuries.
My predictions are wins against Leicester, Brentford and Southampton and a draw against Chelsea. I know this is pretty optimistic but I'm a glass haf full at present after our recent results. I genuinely think we've turned a corner with Weghorst instead of Wood and Lennon and Brownhill starting to show their worth. Just need to keep Cornet injury free and we should be OK.
