Brownhill was superb today, as was Pieters against Salah. I thought although a few sloppy passes, Connor Roberts energy and drive was fantastic.

Brownhill was tireless, but he's really struggling with the ball

Pope 7 - didn't actually have too much to do but made a few smart saves
Roberts 7 - dealt well with Mane and put a few good balls in
Tarkowski 8 - superb again
Mee 7 - sound enough
Pieters 8 - he was excellent against Salah who was getting really frustrated
Lennon 7 - gets about and played his part in stifling Robertson's threat going forward and breaking play down
Westwood 7 - played his part in arguably our best midfield performance of the season
Brownhill 9* - outstanding, covered every blade of grass, won the ball and definitely used it better than usual too
Cornet 6 - a few moments of quality followed up by some clumsiness
Weghorst 7 - thought he should score the first chance then the second was a bit harder but he was a real handful for their defence
Rodriguez 5 - liked him against United but missed a big chance today and didn't offer much else
McNeil 6 - got a few decent balls in

Re: Burnley v Liverpool - Player Ratings
Pope 7 a couple of decent t saves, but to be honest nothing really top drawer. A quieter afternoon than he would have expected I'm sure
Roberts 7 some good covering, thought he did well
Tarky 8 solid but for 2 miss placed passes
Mee 8 solid
Pieters 8 coped very well with Salah
Lennon 8 put a real shift in, broke up play and covered well
Brownhill 8 best game for us I think
Westwood 7
Cornet 6 very quiet from him
Jay 6 a quiet one from him
Weghorst 7 some good moments linked well, was all over the place closing down, however had 2 very good chances, at least 1 should have been put away
McNeil 5 again I thought he was poor, lost the ball, wanted to beat his man or many men before dilevering, over hit pass at the crucial time.
Another good display but the story of the season so far is we couldn't put the ball in the net.
We deserved a point today in my opinion, possibly 3 if we had scored when on top.
Least we are going down fighting, and that's what the fans deserve.

No one has hammered us this season and with the way we set up you can see why. However, a distinct lack of quality going forward has dogged us all season and ultimately is why I think, barring a minor miracle, we will sadly go down.

Re: Burnley v Liverpool - Player Ratings
Pope 7 - one fantastic save, not a lot to do otherwise.
Roberts 7 - decent game.
Tarkowski 7 - a couple of slack passes apart played very well again
Mee 8 - thought he was excellent today, maybe should have done better with the header in the second half though
Pieters 8 - rock solid against Salah.
Lennon 8 - his energy was fantastic and closed a lot of potential openings for Liverpool, shame we couldn't get him in the game in an attacking sense.
Westwood 7 - one pass apart I thought he was excellent in the first half. A little quieter in the second but good energy throughout
Brownhill 9* - fantastic energy as in the week and looked more confident on the ball. Nice to see him have a couple of shots.
Cornet 6 - he wasn't really in the game unfortunately, didn't do enough when he went up front.
Jay 6 - he should have scored but a fantastic pass through for our best chance when Weghorst missed.
Weghorst 7 - fantastic work ethic and some nice like up play. We missed him when he went off but he has to score the first chance and hit the target with the second.
Another very good performance. The pressing by the midfield is particularly encouraging and we are making it difficult for teams to really dominate us in there which hadn't always been the case.
Unfortunately you sort off knew we weren't going to get anything after going in 1-0 down at half time. There was no way we were going to get better chances in the second than we had in the first. Not for the first time this season poor finishing cost us unfortunately.

Pope 8 couple on good saves. One excellent save.
Roberts 8 very good game on the whole.
Tarks 7 good stuff.
Mee 8 great game.
Pieters 9 Superb today, against one of the world's best. Been a huge asset.
Lennon 9 superb all round performance.
Westwood 7 good.
Brownhill 9 very good game.
Cornet 6 not everything worked out, but his ideas & vision when they work, will produce.
Rodriguez 6 great effort
Weghorst 7 it'll come. He already looks more of a footballer than Wood. If he can come close go Woods goals-for, we've done well.
McNeil 6 really went for it. Being dropped didn't harm him.
Weve narrowly lost against one of the world's top 4 or 5 club sides, assembled with millions and millions of quid we can only dream of.
Personally think we'd the best chances. And we really did give them a game.
We may be heading down, but it's not through lack of effort.
Just lack of money invested by our previous owners.

Re: Burnley v Liverpool - Player Ratings
A good performance but a misses opportunity.
Pope - 8- couple of decent saves but relatively quiet considering the strength of the opposition.
Roberts - 7 - a shaky start but grew into the game, even if we do at times miss Lowton's superior distribution.
Pieters - 8 - a really impressive afternoon's work- sharp in the tackle and quick to press, and much better in possession even if he's never going to be refined.
Tarkowski- 8 - defensively outstanding, with the only blemishes a couple of sloppy second half passes to touch.
Mee - 9 - led by example with his willingness to squeeze high.
Westwood- 8 - not everything came off but really sharp around the park.
Brownhill- 9 - set himself a new standard in possession, and snapped around winning the physical battle in midfield. Perhaps his best game for Burnley.
Lennon- 8 - bright and busy, albeit without creating too much.
Cornet - 6 - some threatening moments and worked hard but his final ball wasn't as good as it might have been.
Rodriguez- 6 - worked hard and gave us a platform in the first half, but should have buried the best of our gilt edged first half chances.
Weghorst - 6 - his quality was obvious on occasions but it deserted him twice when he should have scored after being sent through one v one. At this level they have to be taken.
McNeil - 6 - a couple of really good moments but the loss of Weghorst made it hard for us to get a platform in the last 20 minutes.
The time for taking the positives out of positive but unrewarded performances may have passed, but in many respects this was as good a display as we've put in all season and if we want to stand a chance of surviving or even pushing it close, we have to repeat it against lesser sides.
The two things we cant repeat though are falling asleep at corners to concede soft goals (we have form for being undone by a near post run and flick) and missing guilt edged chances. We had 3 in the first half and all of them should have been taken, but not to take any was criminal. Liverpool improved a bit with the benefit of conditions after the break and we never really got the same sort of opportunity again, but there were still lots of good things to like about this performance.

Roberts is settling in well and has so much energy . Bad marking for the corner cost us which is disappointing, along with not taking our chances to go ahead . Weghorst looks like a real player and hopefully the injury is only minor, Cornet was a non runner for much of the game and dare I say it , looked uninterested at times. If he’s to play up too more often he needs to be making runs in behind more often and provide more movement . Deserved something from the game but this is what happens if you don’t take your chances in this league

From tv
One of our better performances of the season, with less hoofing it forward than normal, which was good to see. I still think we could be a lot better going forward.

Pieters 6
Lennon 6
Westwood 7
Brownhill 8 mom
Cornet 6
Rodriguez 5

I tonight we were good today but once again coupled bit taking chances with giving a soft goal away. These lads are giving it all but it’s not enough and it’s not going to be enough to keep us up. The championship awaits.

Re: Burnley v Liverpool - Player Ratings
Pope 7 good saves no chance goal
Roberts 7 considering the opposition decent imo
Tarkowski 7 couple of errors
Mee 7 embarrassingly slow otherwise very steady
Pieters 7 decent 2nd half luckily Salah was way off
Lennon 7 great running and tracking back
Westwood 7 steady and kept working
Brownhill 8 great energy , we’ll need him in the trenches
Cornet 6 the odd touch but average
Rodriguez 6 should of scored , lovely ball to WW
Weghorst 6 really really should have buried 1st chance , can be a handful
McNeil 5 tough gig but needs to rebuild confidence
We should have been 2-0 up 1st half but kept in there vs a superstar powerhouse side . It’s way from over

It's 2022 and still having to play Lennon and Barnes shows the inept strategy at the club.
Crouch made a brilliant point last week - I have been retired 3 years but I played with most of these burnley players
Re: Burnley v Liverpool - Player Ratings
Marks later. For now Brownhill our MOM. Superb and did things I didn't think he was calable of. Pity Vout didn't score. To me we deserved a point.

Re: Burnley v Liverpool - Player Ratings
Pope - 8 - 2 top saves
Roberts - 6 - offers us energy but concerned there’s not a lot of quality
Tarkowski - 7 - some poor distribution in amongst but another good performance
Mee - 8 - excellent throughout
Pieters - 8 - possibly his best game for us - kept Salah very quiet
Lennon - 6 - a solid effort
Westwood - 7 - put a shift in
Brownhill - 8*-l - a really good performance
Cornet - 4 - controversial maybe but looked way, way off the pace to the point of looking uninterested at times. If this had been Dwight he’d be getting lots of 3s
Jay - 6 - thought it was a strange substitution - should have scored
Weghorst - 7 - definitely links play up better than Wood - should also have scored
McNeil - 6 - couple of decent crosses but desperately misses Taylor

Re: Burnley v Liverpool - Player Ratings
Never look at others before I do my marks and its good to see that most are in agreement to the fact that Brownhill was excellent today. The other player who deserves a mention is Aaron Lennon who worked his socks off, take note Dwight McNeil
Re: Burnley v Liverpool - Player Ratings
It's 2022 and I want a wide player to go past players and provide - you are happy with a second full back so shows dyche has implanted that in your mind

A lot of bluster but very little quality.
If we are marking on effort give everyone a 7, marking on quality probably 5s across the board.

Re: Burnley v Liverpool - Player Ratings
No one in that performance was less than a six, and the overall performance and tactics were spot on, but we missed two really good chances and paid for it with a soft one from a corner
But if we play to that level for the remainder of the season, then we will at least give ourselves a chance
Brownhill was outstanding, but the only player who was slightly disappointing was Cornet, and that was only because he perhaps dropped his quality a bit from what we are used to
But its rare you can say Liverpool will feel like they were lucky to win, and they were

Yep and as usual your opinion is incorrect.
This team shows a lot of heart but ultimately there is very little quality in there. Today was the same as we have been all season, good performances due to grafting hard but we just couldn’t see it over the line due to a lack of quality as per the last 12-18 months

Today wasn't the same as we've been all season. More rubbish from you but shouldn't be surprised. It's never ending.Newcastleclaret93 wrote: ↑Sun Feb 13, 2022 5:39 pmYep and as usual your opinion is incorrect.
