Kevin Morehouse RIP

Post by appleton » Thu Feb 17, 2022 7:29 pm

Very sad to hear that a fellow claret Kevin Morehouse has passed away, very suddenly.
He had hoped to return from the doctors with antibiotics but before he knew it he was in A&E, then ICU and 2nd February he died. Not COVID but pneumonia.
If you knew Kev/Kevin/Molly/Moorhouse then please remember him, Lynda and Ben.

Kev was born c1954, went to Edge end school, started out in antiques like Eric Knowles, drove a 2CV, travelled Overland to India, ended up being a teacher in Scarborough.

RIP Molly. I knew him well in our teens when he lived in Carleton St and Ethersall Rd in Nelson. We enjoyed many beers, listened to some great music, and followed the mighty Clarets. Our favourite players - Ralph Coates, Brian O Neill and Dave Thomas. Some great memories!

Jesus Christ, I grew up with Kev in Carleton Street, we were at 67, he lived further down , through infant, junior and Edge End schools. A great lad, decent footballer and I think he stayed in Nelson working up at Herbert Sutcliffe's Antiques where he did, indeed, become a great mate of the mighty Eric Knowles of BBC fame.

When the rest of the gang moved away to Uni or college, Bob Feather to Leicester, Roy Thistlethwaite to Nottingham, Paul "Titty" Whitaker to Southampton and me to Bradford.
Him and Roy Thistlethwaite travelled to India for a couple of months in the Seventies - the "Serpent" era - :o - and I always regret not taking the chance to go with them.

A rotten start to the day, truly awful news, another great bloke and loyal Claret gone.

I knew a Kevin Morehouse in the 60s, in Stoneyholme. They moved to Nelson so I wonder if it the same lad. He had an older brother called Martin.

Chobulous it's a different Kev, this one didn't have a brother but a sister called Lyn. He started out in westcliffe walk and at one time had a Citroen 2CV that we shared lifts to and from the longside in.

I shall also raise a glass to him tonight Pete. Not seen him for ages. Had no idea he’d gone into teaching. Spent many a lazy day chewing the cud with him and Killy. We all shared the same taste in music in those days, His dad, Tom was treasurer at the Poultry Club for a long time. Are you still in touch with Paul? (Titty).

Same here, we all lost touch, really, I do know that Bob Feather is retired from the ceramics industry and still living near Stoke. Roy I've no idea about but I have seen Paul at various matches and he is, or was until last season, a Bob Lord ST holder.

He actually lives in Edale in a very agreeable cottage at the very top end of the village, behind the pub. Rents the annexe out to couples over weekends and holidays apparently. His brother, Alan, is still aboutlast I heard.

A hell of a shock to hear about Kevin and like you, Chester, I'd no idea he'd gone into teaching. I'd love to know what his subject was. :o

Anyway, best wishes to all Kev's mates and family - contact me any time you like, Chester, it'll be good to catch up.

Very sad news about the passing of another Claret. It is many years since I last saw Molly. Probably in the Poultry Club. Best memory a holiday in the Isle of Man with Molly and a couple of other mates – about 1970/71. We were all disappointed to learn the IoM was ‘dry’ on Sundays.
Chesterthedog. I guess we know each other. I am the Killy you mentioned.

To us old timers it was geography but at the time he studied it was TNT travel and tourism

TooOld? Yes you persuaded me and Chappers to play cricket for the Poultry Club back in the day. My claim to fame? - 4 successive ducks in one unmemorable season. 🤪 I’ve still got the Love Sculpture vinyl single you exchanged me for the Curved Air Vivaldi. Very sad news to hear of ‘Molly’s’ passing. Hope you are well.

I lived directly across from Kevin on Westcliffe Walk and he was just about a year + older than me. Played out a lot in the Walk. One day he and I went missing on our tricycles from the walk, I would be about 3and a half at the time, - we obviously went whizzing down Beaufort St and then across Hibson Road then down under the subway before being found ,by a search party of adults, in Nelson centre !!! I went to Marsden Infant and Junior schools then to Edge End (same year as Peter Duckworth, Graham Brunton, Martin Ackroyd, Barry Heagin, all fellow Clarets)
I have never forgotten that escapade but as I was the younger one I think he was the one who had the idea and led us on the downhill spree. !!!
Coincidently a couple of years later my family move to Halifax Rd just round the corner from Springfield Road where we used to play street football with
Eric Knowles and his friends.

I have thought on many occasions about Kevin and I am grateful for the information supplied by other fellow Clarets, to find out about his life. I wonder from the contributions whether Kevin had a family of his own or if Lyn his sister is mentioned along with Ben.
I send my condolences to his family and to his friends along with happy memories.
RIP Kevin

When I was a youngster I lived on Avondale Road opposite to Westcliffe Walk. I knew Kevin and was in the same class as his sister Lynne, all the way through Marsden County Infant, Junior and Senior schools.

RIP Kevin.
