The whole thing is a tragedy, and as always it's the innocent civilians who cop the brunt of the indiscriminate violence, so much for only targeting military sites.

Indeed you can't, and this is where the sanctions can have an impact the longer Ukraine can stall any advances.Vegas Claret wrote: ↑Sat Feb 26, 2022 10:26 pmit sounds very much like they are running low on weaponry - can't hang around in a foreign country if you don't have the tools to do it, cutting them from swift has just made it even harder for them to re-supply

Russian T-14 Armata tanks spotted travelling through Belgorod towards border- unconfirmed.
Russian troops revolted in Belarus and refused to cross into Ukraine- unconfirmed.
Russian thermobaric rockets on the move in Zaporizhia- confirmed. Would be a significant escalation if deployed. Indiscriminate, especially if fired in urban areas.

Re: Russia Invades
I can only hope there is some truth in the reports that some Russian troops are refusing to attack Ukraine.
I really had believed that war in Europe was no longer a possibility. I suppose a lot of people had.
Good job Western European countries haven't spent the last 30 years cutting defence budgets and drawing down troop levels/deployments whilst under the illusion a democratic Russia was no longer a threat...

Re: Russia Invades
If reports of 500 tanks advancing is true that is a huge commitment of forces.
With more countries committing to re-arm they will want to get tanks there before fresh supplies of missiles do. I would even say in the short term (48hours) an encirclement is more important than a capture, to ensure the defenders are cut off.
UK supplied 2,000 man portable Anti Tank missiles in January, they've been visible in the hands of Ukrainian forces. They will be being used on all types of vehicles not just tanks. So with 600 armored vehicles reportedly destroyed you'd imagine they will be through a sizable chunk of these.
I know many will have been destroyed from the air or by other weapons but I'm also factoring in 2 fired for every 1 kill, which is still generous.

Re: Russia Invades
Bombs come off planes. Shoot them down = no bombs.
Warheads also come off ICBMs. That’s where it gets very difficult/ expensive. Hence the best defence is your own warheads with which to ward off the attack anyway. Hence why we have a credible nuclear deterrent despite the protests of some.

Not quite. If it doesn’t detonate then the radioactive material is fairly contained.Vegas Claret wrote: ↑Sun Feb 27, 2022 2:25 ameven if you shoot them down the fall out would be colossal
Good examples being the bombs onboard USAF B52s that crashed over Spain (and poss others) that were very difficult to find.
Bombs of all types don’t go off un-commanded !

edit: B52 incident.........The non-nuclear explosives in two of the weapons detonated upon impact with the ground, resulting in the contamination of a 0.77-square-mile (2 km2) area with radioactive plutonium. The fourth, which fell into the Mediterranean Sea, was recovered intact after a search lasting two and a half months.[5]

The key point being ‘non nuclear components’. The USAF didn’t accidentally smash half of western Spain!
All I’ll say is, nukes are fairly hard to set off accidentally, and that includes if you managed to shoot one down.

From yesterday
Russian supply/rear echelon unit destroyed near Khark'iv, and one near Kerson
https://twitter.com/AVindman/status/1497619842551230468
https://twitter.com/christogrozev/statu ... 7726240768
From today
Ukrainian soldiers engaging Russian special forces in Khark'iv
https://twitter.com/RALee85/status/1497845325242982403
Almost impossible to control the rear areas with what Russia has, and though their elite combat troops will be as good as its possibly to be, a lot of their army with be conscripts with no combat experience
This more and more this looks like Russia needs a "win" (ie capturing Kyi'v) so it can say its won, and save face
But its only been four days, so lots of things could change
