£2 p/l bring it on. Least we can do is put up with a few extra quid. I wouldn't expect to hear many complaining about it.

Sounds like I'd better get myself a moped for work then, as it's slowly becoming unviable to run my car like I have been.gandhisflipflop wrote: ↑Thu Mar 03, 2022 9:07 pmI work in the fuel industry and £2 a litre is not an unrealistic prediction. I talk to a lot of transport managers and one today said he saw 1.80 on the motorway.

It's a bummer, but before we moan about the price of petrol, I hope everyone remembers the price the Ukraine is paying.GodIsADeeJay81 wrote: ↑Thu Mar 03, 2022 9:02 pmFuel prices have jumped 3p today, now at £160.9per ltr.
Where AWE is, Tadley, it's jumped 10p over the last 48hrs.
I'm expecting it to hit £2 in the next week or so.
If paying more helps them in anyway then I've no complaints.

The only complaint I've got is fuel was £1.20 ish a ltr during the nationwide lockdown, because there was a surplus and it's now an extra 40p a ltr, I think it's a massive p-take especially as most of that will be taxes.Colburn_Claret wrote: ↑Thu Mar 03, 2022 9:17 pmIt's a bummer, but before we moan about the price of petrol, I hope everyone remembers the price the Ukraine is paying.

I think there might be more than that up there, there was a knowing grin (that a reporter also commented on live) during the State of the Union address that suggests Bidon is pretty confident Russia would not be nuking America whatever else he tries.Vegas Claret wrote: ↑Thu Mar 03, 2022 9:22 pmwell we know there are Awacs up 24/7 and I'll guarantee a U2 is up there somewhere too

Just looking at average prices across Europe and we aren't the highest as of end of Feb, but there's quite a distance between what we pay and other countries pay

Still most of March is the mud season as well, and if its 90% of their combat power already involved, and its taken hits, then
I bet Putin is screaming at his commanders to do things quicker, and that cost the Russians really heavily in WWII
And it goes without saying, anyone seeing a drop in the Ukrainian will to fight?
Nah, me neither

War Crimes:
Stupid question but if Putin is found guilty of War Crimes then what is the punishment ? Can he just say FO, come and get me ?
What happens then ? He is hardly going to hand himself in without some dreadful legacy.

Total paralysis. Russia becomes totally isolated, even those still defending him are obliged to stop dealing with the country until such times as those in power that are found guilty are removed to stand trial at The Hague. Makes sanctions pointless to a large degree, no one outside Russia recognises it.Dressinggown wrote: ↑Thu Mar 03, 2022 9:57 pmWar Crimes:

Re: Russia Invades
China far, far from happy. They have spent billions building into the trade system and to great effect, only for COVID and then within a week Putin killing the fatted calf that China relies on. They are now stuck between a rock and a hard place - it has serious implications if they are seen siding with the West, even against their traditional enemies. If the War Crimes comes back positive, its a huge out for China which is already getting plenty of disgruntled messages from its SE neighbours over trade. It would I think suit China down to the ground for Putin to be found guilty sooner rather than later.Lancasterclaret wrote: ↑Thu Mar 03, 2022 10:04 pmI think we really need China to step up to the plate here

Watching Newsnight - China have announced it always respects and insists other accept existing borders. At first flush it sounds like they are looking to extricate themselves from their previous position. Causing as little collateral damage to their own relationships as possible (or be potentially on the losing side, I suspect).JarrowClaret wrote: ↑Thu Mar 03, 2022 10:52 pmI read somewhere or someone said in the radio that China has eyes on parts of Russia the more they push at Ukraine it could get interesting on that border as well.

There’s a post below saying the Russians/military should overthrow Putin, and I could see that, but only really if China back the West.
I can’t see why they wouldn’t. They need the West and our consumers a lot more than they need Russia.

Re: Russia Invades
I just cannot see Russia being dominant in this century given their economy is the size of Spain, will reduce with sanctions to a fraction of that, and the world is loosening its dependence on hydrocarbons.
China is another matter, and they are just as fierce and authoritarian. Just cleverer about it. I agree they are playing the long game, slowly growing. Their demographic time bomb from the one child policy gives me hope but I can just see them trying to hoover up Russia’s vast commodities due to this crisis.
We have to ensure democracy and freedom prevails, that will lead to a lot of belt tightening but I just cannot see the West backing down now. We simply have too much to lose.
Linking that to Ukraine, Konstantine Kisin (who is very good) on Question Time tonight suggesting this can only end in a diplomatic settlement where Russia take Crimea amd Eastern Ukraine formally with us getting some concessions in return. I agree. We just need to get there ASAP and avoid further bloodshed. p.s. I don’t see us releasing all sanctions in return though.

If Putin gets Eastern Ukraine, along with Crimea then he will feel emboldened and will try to take the rest of the country in the near future.
Then he starts looking at other countries because he knows he gets what he wants through invasions/bloodshed

Wounded animal scenario, Putin has acted as many believed he would. He seems to be insane, and dangerously powerful.
Not looking good for those that believe common sense will prevail.
The sanctions will have cut deep, but he knows this, and for all the condemnation of his strategies, and murderous tactics, He appears oblivious.
Russia is a frightening enemy, colossal forces, and capable of convincing its own populace that they are doing the right thing. Western alliances and accord will only strengthen his resolve. China is an irrelevance.

I assume (well hope to be honest) that you think its profiteering and isn't necessary, rather than the slightly more darker explanation
