The Monday Night Club on 5live is pretty good listening, he always comes across well on both TV and Radio and he knows his stuff when it comes to a wide range of sports.
He'd be a good choice to replace Stelling in my opinion.

Surely if it was "box ticking woke nonsense" they would have appointed a female person of colour with perhaps a gender neutral leaning?
It could be worse than Chapman but I am not a fan.

I find him really irritating.
trouble is, if he goes the BBC will almost certainly replace him with someone more irritating

I like him…. As has been said above the Monday Night Club on radio 5, which he chairs, is almost always a good listen. He seems an OK bloke to me , with decent football knowledge and a good choice overall. I hope he continues on the beeb as opposed to going to Sky though.

Even though he was whoooshed, your original post was misplaced.
Chapman is joining Sky and not the, black trans can't talk properly but he/she ticks a box BBC.

Would be a good choice and suited to the show though perhaps harsh on Julian Warren who does a decent job on the midweek shows.

Chapman has big shoes to fill. I’ve said it many times on here, that Stelling is the best in the business.
I think he’s the right choice, safe pair of hands for the show, but it’s not what it was though. The golden era has long gone for Gillette Soccer Saturday.

I actually think Soccer Saturday has improved recently as the new pundits have settled in. Think Micah Richards would be more suited as a pundit on GSS than on the Super Sunday games etc.

I like him. Find him a good presenter who genuinely enjoys sport and has a good knowledge of what he watches.
Seems a bloke you could go for a pint with and have a good evening chatting over the weekends football.

No - I’m a grown-up
I’ve frequently heard him refer to us as undeserving or physical or one dimensional etc. It stood out as he’s usually even-handed in his criticism but his biases have been showing of late

I agree but It’s like anything mate, nobody really likes change when they’re happy with what they are seeing. It’s all part of an era of your life, you have to make changes though eventually.claptrappers_union wrote: ↑Fri Mar 04, 2022 9:48 pmChapman has big shoes to fill. Here goes:
1. "Undeserving" - as in- size of club, budget, fans base, global appeal etc. (See also "punching above their weight)
2. Physical. -we are perceived as physical by the majority of our opponents fans/managers/ press. Whether we agree or not is a moot point. (And we love it when we are physical)
3. One dimensional. - just read this messageboard for the last 5 months.
4. Bias.- A radio sports journalist takes his time to be biased against Burnley... of all the clubs...? Dyche was on his show last Monday night.... and has been a regular on the show for years. Clearly Dyche doesnt think like that. .

Re: Mark Chapman
Its important that he doesn't try to be "Jeff Two".
He's got to be himself, and create his own style.
Then it might work. Time will tell.

Re: Mark Chapman
I like Chapman, I think he could do a decent job, though replacing Stelling is a massive task. Chapman will be helped if SKY bring in a decent team alongside him - are the pundits remaining the same or being refreshed too?
The new bunch are shite - it may take time for them to build rapport but so far, they’re a poor choice, from what I’ve seen.

Re: Mark Chapman
he knows just enough to eek out a response from ex players, but he likes to think he is incisive himself.
sadly he is a golf bore and a fan of american football, another one who would love us to take that dreadful game to our hearts. He tries the same approach with their experts when he hosts stuff on that dirge of a sport. He seems a decent enough bloke though, but thesedays all the pundits and presenters pimp themselves about . No big deal if another one moves elsewhere.

Re: Mark Chapman
I've weirdly warmed to Tim Sherwood, which I appreciate is borderline sacrilegious on here. Merson is Merson but I do think they need someone with a but more about them - I'd probably put Richards and Keane on there, as their 'odd couple' relationship works really well and they both bring different things to the table. Chapman's laid back presenting style would be well suited to the format - I find it odd anybody would find him 'straight laced', he's the exact opposite if anything.
Re: Mark Chapman
If Stelling and the old crew did the equivalent of soccer saturday on bbc 1 the viewing figures would be through the roof. I'm gobsmacked this hasn't happened yet.
As for Chapman, I'm not sure how anyone could dislike him, he's the most inoffensive guy going and is usually pretty fair with all things Burnley from my POV, not sure he's a good fit for sky though.

the keane /richards thing is possibly about as dull as it gets. keane especially has become the *** to go to for the sulky quip, but its been done to death for about two years. Awful pairing.

Re: Mark Chapman
I havent got alternatives Swizz, I just think the world of presenting and punditry is at an all time low.
just look at the way they pop up on social media and every channel , radio and tv combined. what is the present format? oh yes, its some lacky in the background teeing up a peabrained quiz for the resident presenters. they churn out slop from morning till night, much as I do, but they take a kings ransom for their dross.
