The Everton game just gave us false hope. We were pretty bloody awful in that game, worse in this and worse in far too many all season.
Another relegation due to a midfield that would struggle in the division below.

Will be fine in the Championship, not good enough at this level.
How Dyche & Pace getting have not seen that and strengthened is disgraceful.

Re: Pathetic
It's over. We're down. Fully fit squad playing against the worst team in the league on the back of a comeback win against a relegation rival midweek, and this is what we produce. We'll be doing well to reach 30pts, never mind the 36 or so needed for survival.

Re: Pathetic
The manor of this defeat is what gets me. After an amazing win in midweek we don’t decide to turn up. From the go we didn’t look like scoring. Norwich are the team I wish we were, they showed a will to win and fight. They have a manager who knows his best aide as well, something we don’t have. Westwood is dire.

Indeed faith or belief in a higher being being able to manipulate football games. Or the ability to ignore the obvious and believe in alternate reality’s
Unfortunately I’m a realist , and look at facts and stats .. they tend not to lie and have a habit of being more accurate than belief in the supernatural

There are 24 points to play for and Everton's run in is very tough. I still believe we can do it.

Re: Pathetic
I've seen enough of Weghorst now. Offers us nothing. Not necessarily all his fault as he doesn't suit our "style" but looks about as likely to score as a leper in a convent.

Lack of goals comes back to haunt us and send us down into the Championship.
2 games played against the bottom club without scoring.
If only we had realised that was a real problem that needed to be addressed from last season?

I agree, but the lack of belief today was alarming after Everton. I just cannot understand why we play looping balls into the box against Norwich… it is about the only thing they CAN defend. Gutted, but it isn’s over.Terry Cochrane wrote: ↑Sun Apr 10, 2022 3:58 pmThere are 24 points to play for and Everton's run in is very tough. I still believe we can do it.
Re: Pathetic
Current trend over the season is 0.26pts for every one available (24/90). On current form that sees us picking up about six or seven, just taking us to around 30. We're down.Terry Cochrane wrote: ↑Sun Apr 10, 2022 3:58 pmThere are 24 points to play for and Everton's run in is very tough. I still believe we can do it.

Lampard must be so pleased, even with Everton's run in knowing we play like that, against bottom of the league. This weekend has told me the relegation trio is pretty well sealed now. Just a matter of positions

The service to Weghorst is dreadful.
The penny finally dropped on Wednesday night, get to the byline and pull the ball back, bang, 2 goals.
How many times did we do that today?

Re: Pathetic
Typifies our season that performance - simply not good enough.
A totally pathetic effort against a team nowhere near Premier league standard.
Failure to purchase a central midfield player to improve this side has killed us off completely.
Rubbish unfortunately .
Huge respect for Dyche, and I’ve backed him to the hill , however I can’t for the life of me see why he has persisted with this poor stuff for such a long time.

Re: Pathetic
Our 'season' ended when we failed to take advantage of achieving 7th place. The decline began then. The club aped the pattern of others who had done similar. They ceded control to Dyche and his staff. The fans then became frightened to criticise. The result? No pressure on manager or board. Now we face a decline that could mirror that of Sunderland. But the die is cast. Dyche is in charge. He goes when he decides unfortunately.

Re: Pathetic
Totally agree -but we say this almost every week about the service to our front two. What are our coaches doing about it in training. We gave Norwich the freedom of the midfield today, and made their forwards look goodJuan Tanamera wrote: ↑Sun Apr 10, 2022 4:05 pmThe service to Weghorst is dreadful.

Re: Pathetic
Norwich going down means it's one less team we'll finish above, we'll be bottom half under Dyche

Re: Pathetic
We have so far played 3 games against fellow relegation candidates Norwich and Watford but have failed to score a single goal let alone register a win, taking just 2 points from those fixtures.
The PL Table doesn't lie and we deserve our place in the bottom 3.

Re: Pathetic
Wout had some nice touches when we played into feet.Problem was Ash Westwood insisted on lofting hit and hope passes .Defenders are always favourites to win high ball.
Team selection and tactics lost this game and gives us a mountain to climb now to avoid the drop

Re: Pathetic
Pre match music in the dressing room to gee them up is probably 'Ole Man River' because we are floating towards the Championship and possibly further like an old steamboat without any coal.
All good things come to an end but it is really disappointing in a season that saw the long awaited for 'investment' turn out to be nothing but flashing lights.
I will be shocked if we didn't finish rock bottom to be honest in this, a season too far. The call for a change of Leadership will be long and loud and who can argue in reality?

Re: Pathetic
The main issue with Weghorst is that he's being asked to do everything. He's best played to feet with back to goal or in the box as a threat, not 30 yard balls into the channels which we used as a tactic to turn defenses a few seasons ago.
With him and Jay the opposition defence push up, there's no danger of one of our players overlapping or making a run past them. The reason we look better when Vydra comes on is that he has pace, so the opposition cannot condense the play and push up.
The reality is that as per today we had both midfielders deep and both firing flat straight chest high passes at our two forwards who were a yard in the opposition half andfacing our own goal.
Not sure what was meant to magically happen going with that as our tactic. Weghorst would do very well at a club where he had players either linking up with him or giving him an option. Not his fault.

Re: Pathetic
Do you expect fans to say we have been brilliant when actually in fact we’ve been dismal?
Fans support their team/club during good and bad times. They don’t dislike the club or team, but are disappointed with the performances as of late. If you can’t see this then fair enough but that’s the bottom line my friend .
Unfortunately we aren’t very good at this level at the moment .

Re: Pathetic
Agree with that. Neither Weghorst nor Jay for that matter are battering rams in the Wood/Barnes/Vokes mould. They're technical footballers who just happen to be over 6ft. Jay needs runners to link up with him, he's not a stalk-the-last-defender type player. Too many times today did Jay look and have time to play a pass but found no one willing because the midfield plays too deep. Through no fault of either I don't think Jay and Weghorst are suited to one another's style, but even then we're not using them properly when they're both on the pitch together. Tactics are all over the place.scamander wrote: ↑Sun Apr 10, 2022 6:44 pmThe main issue with Weghorst is that he's being asked to do everything.
