There’s only one rule in the premier league “the referee can do what he wants whenever he wants” and he applied it perfectly.

Not allowed to mark from TV ( I never understand why - as you see things from different angles than at a game)
However he was excellent apart from bottling out of giving their player an obvious second yellow card and reducing Norwich to 10 men

Not there today so can’t mark but he had one big decision to make and bottled it. Appalling not to send off the Norwich player. Would it have made a difference? Unlikely, but that’s not the point. A referee who thinks he’s better than he is.

Worst performance I’ve seen from him - just didn’t apply the rules - truly abysmal to put it mildly

Quite right --he didn't apply the rules, he applied The Laws of The Game which is what is required and he applied them extremely well as per the instructions from his employers. He was always up with play, gave fair decisions as he saw them and did not favour either side, even when players, including a couple of our own, were trying to con him by falling around all over the place.
As usual, Clarets fans blame the referee for the team's failings, it is nothing new because it has been happening for the 70 years that I have been going on the Turf.

Give over.
You won’t see a more blatant yellow than the one he cowardly bottled.

Ashington. What’s your view then on him not giving what looked like a nailed on second yellow to the Norwich lad?

Ashington, had I been there, I wouldn't have been rating him that low but questions have to be asked about the incident when Lees-Melou should have received a second yellow. Oliver has previous for this, Watford in 2016/17 when a player already carded jumped into the crowd to celebrate a goal.

Not at all, it was a mere coming together as happens in every game, however, modern fans and pundits etc. think that every occurrence should be a yellow card, if that was the case you would never finish any game.
By your interpretation, he should then have sent Charlie Taylor off when he brought Puki down, because he would have got his shot away, therefore, Charlie denied a clear goalscoring opportunity. Dwight could/should have been cautioned for his falling over in the box when not touched.
Those are just three instances when common sense was used without going OTT as you seem to want.

Dress it up all you want, it was a cowardly decision. A cop out.
But we all saw how out of touch he is at the Leeds game last season.
He’ll take the easy route every single time
Like I said, the guy is a coward.

Thought he had a pretty decent game, but he definitely let a clear second yellow card ride. It was a deliberate trip from behind with no intention to play the ball. It's a yellow card without question, and I'm sure it would have been brandished had he not already been in the book.

Yep. No dressing it up. It’s a yellow card. He just didn’t want the hassle.

I can only assume that Norwich finished the game with eleven men because it wasn't 'that sort of game.' Mr. Oliver had a much better game than most of our players despite that.

Thought we got more than our fair share from him today personally. Plenty of soft free kicks.

I can't believe nobody has mentioned Hanley's raised forearm arm to the back of Jay's head. He unmistakably did him deliberately and smacking somebody in the head is always dangerous. Can anybody explain how that's not a red card? He should have walked and that was only mid way through the first half.

I’m not blaming the ref for the team’s failings. You should have more respect for your fellow supporters. I’m blaming him for bottling decisions and general incompetency - I was totally mystified by his decisions. They were poor and inconsistent.
As for your Laws of the Game comment - they are the codified rules of association football so rules is the correct term

I’m not sure if he is a jinx referee or just hates us but we never get a fair rub from him.
First half he was fine, second half he gave us nothing. Definite red card for the tug on Charlie, red or yellow for Hanley and how did he give them a FK when Jay played the ball with his laces and their man kicked his studs? That is not a studs up challenge.

A small matter but I found it quite bizarre that he spent 85 minutes giving a free kick every time a Norwich player fell over and then (after the second goal) allowing all such incidents to go unpunished. Equally (and I accept that I am a stickler for the rules), Krul started time wasting after the first goal, he was eventually spoken to by the referee but continued to do so, all Oliver then did was wave his watch at Krul from a distance on each occasion that it happened. If you don't enforce the rules then the urine continues to be extracted.

I agree. That was the one which got away.
Rodriguez knew.

I recall Ashington being quite defensive of Oliver in previous debates about his performance.
With him living up that way maybe he a bit of a sift spot for him, or some Oliver tinted glasses.
You cannot defend that yellow he bottled, its a yellow every single time.
However as mentioned other than that he did well, and for me his best performance for a while, possibly as he didn't want to be mates and kiss the arses of either teams players.

Oliver’s bad decisions against us go back to 2011/12 when he should have sent Jonjo Shelvey, then of Blackpool off for a knee high, off the floor challenge, he gave a yellow. If that Norwich player had done that against Liverpool, Oliver would have been stood there with that, what else am I supposed to do look on his face. Whenever I see him I can’t help feeling that Sesame Street is missing a count.
