It does seem Russia has employed every tactic for ‘how to NOT win a war’. I’d expect it of a banana republic but not ‘a world power’.
The thing is Russian tactics have always been about having more mass (tanks, men, aircraft etc). They have done in Ukraine what they always do it is just this time they have hit a stubborn, extremely capable and ignoring the captured Saxons that keep cropping up some very good weaponry/ vehicles. They were supposed to have started to modernise under the previous defence minister (name escapes me) but after he was moved on it would seem they are back to square 1. Corruption is rife in there military and some of there more modern equipment has suffered because of it. The T 72 etc is being proved to be a pile of crap and the much older T64 a more able with better armour. It is no surprise that the Ukrainians have kept the majority of there T72s in reserve whilst there regular formations tend to use the T64.

Sobering analysis of Russia still not learning any lessons

You do wonder if the Generals are getting a lot of political pressure from the top to end this war as soon as possible

it seems astonishing that the Russians have forgotten that lesson from WWII, but I can't see what else it can be?

I'm wondering how they hit that oil terminal in Bryansk Russia. Hopefully when I wake up there'll be some details.

The Belgorod fuel attack was by helicopter(s) but that was less than 20 miles over the Russian border from Ukraine. Bryansk is much further (80+ miles?) - it looks to be actually nearer to Moscow than it is to Kyiv.
It's a daring attack if the Ukrainians did it but the Russians are pretty slapdash in procedures it seems - so you cant rule out some kind of accident I guess. Hopefully we'll get more info from believable (not Russian) sources.

Rob LEE: Russian export profits on military equipment have added to their own military’s problems in keeping supplied, as profit is restricted for the ‘home’ market. Estimates suggest the Ukraine has already put the Russian military equipment supplies back two years and the drop off of the export trade will further hurt Russia’s ability to carry on the war effort, as Russia turn supply factories to full time (low profit) internal manufacture.

Just read that T90Ms have been spotted in Ukraine after the T 14 these are Russias most modern and best protected tanks an interesting development. Not sure how many they have of them but clearly they won’t want them to be turned into piles of junk like the rest of them.

Almost certainly been bought in from units screening NATO borders

I'd say that is a sign of how desperate they are becoming, nothing to suggest these are any different to hits from Javelins than any other Russian tanks

I think I saw a pic of one in Kharki'v

Saw a couple of updates today of explosions in Transnistria. Can't be the Moldovians getting froggy I wouldn't think. And I really don't understand why the Ukrainians would be hitting there. Odd. Maybe false flag I guess, but it's not like the Russians have a lot of forces there. 1500 or so.

Lavrov warning about NATO supplying Ukraine again, threatening reprisals again, essentially "Boy cries wolf" again

Increasingly clear that Russia will absolutely gut itself rather than admit that it can't achieve its war aims (a reminder that the war aims they now say they have changed after they were decisively defeated in the north and south)

If that is the road they are insisting on going down, then the West has to scale up the armament deliveries to Ukraine

Interesting tactic by Russia

I mean, it absolutely screams how desperate they are, and also guarantees that no one in Europe will want their gas or oil in the future

I think Putin is clearly very ill, and this situation is going to get a lot worse if he's allowed to remain in charge

From what I’ve read, it’s Poland that’s announced this move and Russia haven’t confirmed it? In which case, maybe an empty threat that’s massively backfired?

Odd they’d just do it to Poland and not Germany (who are more dependent and have just announced they’re sending tanks)?

You need to cut the Germans some slack here

If we were in the same position, we'd do exactly the same thing

They are so dependent on Russian oil and gas that stopping it will cause a huge recession. Huge recessions in democracies result in governments changing, and not necessarily for the better

Throw in their history with Russia, and they have to tread very carefully

Consider what they have done already, and they have done a lot more than they are given credit for

- Planning to stop reliance on Russian gas and oil by the end of the year
- Giving armoured vehicles to the Ukrainians after decades of not getting involved

Their opposition to Russia will just get stronger the longer this goes on, along with everybody else

Russia are playing this all wrong btw, their best chance is the war to disappear from the front pages and the government priorities, by making it a more of a slug fest (or even declaring that they have met their objectives)

But they are continuing to think like a country that has got loads of power to back it up, and they just haven't got it, and they continue to make huge strategic mistakes pretty much every week

Wise words.
Should Germany or France adopt policies that allow for a re-emergence of the far right, this whole circus could easily lurch into a far more sinister direction.

Putin won't turn the gas off in Germany.
They are still financing Putins assault.

I don’t think you wrote anything that was wrong or having a go at any other poster, so it will probably be fine.

What I will say is the only reason this thread still exists is due to the moderator who I think is doing a good job. It stays mainly on topic now.

Why not go hard and pick Germany though? Or are they paying in rubles?
Don’t know if they are paying in Rubles or not.

But I think they have mainly tried to keep out of upsetting Putin.

They have sent some weapons, but not on the scale of other countries.

On the Tanks, they have yet to arrive, I think.
