Re: Name the next manager
You can certainly tell they’ve started this week. The bickering has gone up several notches and the transfer rumours thread yesterday morning was just pathetic from the usual suspects.
Re: Name the next manager
Yeah, the definition is a bit skewed.dsr wrote: ↑Wed Jun 01, 2022 2:47 pmThere's two different sorts of respect. There's common or garden respect that you give to everyone - you don't sneer at a stranger in the street just because he hasn't earned your respect - and there's special respect for people that have done something good. Same word, slightly but slgnificantly different meanings.
But I would never say, "I respect him/her" unless they have done something that made me consciously think, "I respect them".

Who had ‘pages of discussion on the semantics of respect’ on how this thread would go?

Re: Name the next manager
Is respecting your elders different?
Because I've always been told to respect them. But if they haven't earned my respect, should I respect them?
Do I need them to respect me first?

Re: Name the next manager
I actually heard yesterday that Kompany had changed his mind and decided to go to Germany. No Idea if it's true but the same person told me in Jan that only half the Wood money would be used and the rest used to pay off some of our debt- That seems to have been true and I posted it on here at the time.
Given everything that's been reported in the media on this one though i'd be amazed if he didn't end up here now. I'm not sure if the person who passed on the info knows or has just "heard" that this is the case this time, whereas he was adamant about the Wood situation.

Re: Name the next manager
I doubt we’ve even received the whole of the Wood money yet so I’d take that claim with a huge pinch of salt!boyyanno wrote: ↑Wed Jun 01, 2022 3:19 pmI actually heard yesterday that Kompany had changed his mind and decided to go to Germany. In the paper this week an elderly gentleman murdered his wife. He's an old git but I don't respect him.ClaretAndJew wrote: ↑Wed Jun 01, 2022 3:17 pmIs respecting your elders different?

Re: Name the next manager
I just hope they have an immediate plan B at the ready because the longer it drags on the more you wonder if there’s a genuine problem.
Re: Name the next manager
I'll bump the thread. The info was actually different to that, I had to look back to see what it was but it was actually that the club had made 10-15m available for one player but that following that the money from the Wood sale would be banked to cover the debt and not reinvested into the playing squad.
I'm only bumping just to show iv'e posted info on here from the same source before that seems to have been true, but as said before I am skeptical about this bit of info.

Funny you should mention but I heard that this bloke had been asking the bookies what odds he could get on this thread descending into bickering about respect.RicardoMontalban wrote: ↑Wed Jun 01, 2022 3:16 pmWho had ‘pages of discussion on the semantics of respect’ on how this thread would go?

Re: Name the next manager
As far as I can tell (from a search on twitter) the account that was ‘in the know’ no longer exists, presumably a false account used for the purpose of being able to lay said bets. Not sure knowing this makes it more or less reliable, but to keep referencing it seems little pointless as its a dead account (so far as I can see).
Re: Name the next manager
So the deal they’d agreed for Orsic, believed to be up to 10m, that collapsed at the last minute due to Zagreb pulling the plug - would that have made the total 20-25m and therefore your info incorrect?boyyanno wrote: ↑Wed Jun 01, 2022 3:31 pmI'll bump the thread. Re: Name the next manager
The Orsic deal was going to be payments over a number of years wasn’t it?
Re: Name the next manager
Good point, unless Weghorst came because Orsic stayed put
Re: Name the next manager
As are most transfers. Presume he means the total value of transfers.ClaretTony wrote: ↑Wed Jun 01, 2022 3:51 pmThe Orsic deal was going to be payments over a number of years wasn’t it?
Re: Name the next manager
"Name the next manager"
Vincent Kompany.
Vincent Kompany.
Re: Name the next manager
I can only base my opinion on what actually happens. Orsic didn't sign and we did only spend 10-15m, so the info appears to be accurate.
You're right though, had Orsic signed then clearly it wouldn't have been.

The account is still there. Re: Name the next manager
Betting market has reopened with Kompany 1/3 odds on favourite he was 1/20 last week
Re: Name the next manager
No one said that either. I genuinely don't know the ins and outs and nor does my source. I can only say what was potentially available and what we did spend.
For all I know we wanted both if they fit within that set budget and they didn't.
Re: Name the next manager
ok, so 4pm on Wednesday, no new manager announcement, so let's enjoy the long weekend (those that can), hopefully a bit of sunshine, raise a glass to the longest serving manager in Buck House. And let's see what next week brings
Enjoy UTC

I am presuming that Mike Jackson is still the manager of burnley until someone else is appointed.

Re: Name the next manager
Is respectful to bet on Kompany being manager as a sign of faith in the club, or disrespectful because they don't believe in gambling, or respectful to not bet on Kompany because of the history of problems with sports gambling, or disrespectful to not bet because it will upset our betting sponsors? And are the odds changing a sign of respect or disrespect? What's the correct odds and value of a bet to show appropriate respect to Kompany, Burnley and the bookies?Taffy on the wing wrote: ↑Wed Jun 01, 2022 4:17 pmCan we have an argument about when the betting was suspended now?

*awaits someone posting the latest twitter rumour I've just seen from an unverified account claiming to be a freelance journalist*
Re: Name the next manager
So we've established that it was closed and then reopened. It was most certainly closed a lot longer than 2 days ago. I know that as fact, because I went to Skybet to place a bet and it wasn't being accepted. At the time, Joey Barton was second favourite.ClaretTony wrote: ↑Wed Jun 01, 2022 4:30 pmHe was 1/20 on Sky Bet from around last Thursday until they closed a couple of days ago.

what i am gathering from reading this abhorrent thread, is that no one, even the admin of this site as a clue what's going on with VK and everyone including the admin is just embarrassingly pretending they do know.

(a) that they're on holiday in Spain, only to be found posting from a Burnley IP address
(b) that they're a solicitor, when in reality they've just read a few legal books to pass the time inside
