HB played as LCB for England 21s last night. Poor opposition but from the bits I watched he looked very assured on the ball, I guess that's something you can expect from any City player.superdimitri wrote: ↑Wed Jun 08, 2022 3:08 pmI'd fancy Collins and Bayliss-Harwood as centre halves in the championship.
They are both right footed though.
City won't loan him to us without a guarantee he plays a lot of games.

Ideal opportunity to mess around a bit with forest. I’d be jumping at it.

Placed on the left of centre before and I don't think the guarantee of games will come into it. If Kompany is confirmed as manager, I think they'll let us have him for the season and play under him again.superdimitri wrote: ↑Wed Jun 08, 2022 3:08 pmI'd fancy Collins and Bayliss-Harwood as centre halves in the championship.

Micheal Keane will be surplus at Everton so a loan move would be a good move

Keane will jave much better offers than us, of that I am absolutely certain (assuming Everton even want rid.

Considering Forest would be the main favourites to get relegated it seems to be an odd move should Pope decide to go there. Although Pope might think it probably won't improve his chances of getting picked for England either way.

Matondo looks like he would be a real handful , he was also on loan at Stoke playing 10 games and scoring 1 goal last season. If Schalke are ready to let him go then perhaps VK will test the water for him

Also Matondo seems more a wide forward from the videos, using his dribbling ability with direct running.

I find it interesting that people think Nick Pope will end up at Forest for me I would hugely shocked if Forest interests him. He might as well stay with us a year and see his options at the end going there will not enhance his England chances! Now if a Brighton or a wolves etc came knocking that would be a different story.

Realistically who’s going to spend the money we want for him. 16m is currently the record in the prem for a keeper 30 years old or older.
I suspect we will be looking for more than that. I just can’t see who’s going to pay that kind of money. 15-20m and he will be at Forrest

More than £20m, up to £40m. Or we won’t sell at all.
I don’t think Alan is the type of bloke to accept low fees for World Class players, not least because we can’t afford to.

I see it completely differently. It’s not sustainable to keep letting valuable assets leave for free. Pope has 1 year left. Surely we won’t keep him and let him walk for nothing.

We have some power here. He has a years option and he will be 32 by the end of that, not old for a goalie but unlikely to be a Number 1 choice for a big prem club by then.
Also no one is paying 40m. I think £25m gives us a decision to make but I don’t see anyone in the bottom half paying that for a 30 year old keeper.

Even if we got 25m that is 9m over the current record. That is a serious amount of money for a keeper. I honestly don’t see a team paying it unless newcastle fancy him (but he doesn’t really fit Howes style).

We can't afford to turn down £20m and let him walk for free, you mean? His value isn't going up, only down.

I’m assuming Charlton have a 20% sell-on clause, so it’d be £16m. 2 years left (we have a further years option).
Promotion is worth what? £70m? I reckon Pace would keep him for £20m or less. I’m prepared to put my money where my mouth is though.

Why on earth do you not think Pope will be in demand at 32 ?JR1882 wrote: ↑Thu Jun 09, 2022 10:28 pmWe have some power here. He has a years option and he will be 32 by the end of that, not old for a goalie but unlikely to be a Number 1 choice for a big prem club by then.

He’ll not even be at the Peak of his powers then and should have another 6-7 years ahead of him at the top. I find your logic puzzling.

Pope shouldn't be any cheaper than 25m, he's perhaps shown he is actually world class this season. People quoting "most expensive keeper prices" forget one thing, prices rocket every year. Don't forget Wood became one of the most expensive 30+ strikers in the last window.
Pope's worth to us has to be, at a minimum, what we would A) need to pay to sign an addition- although there's arguments to say we may already have enough with Hennessy and BPF and B) how much his contribution relates to promotion and the windfall received from that.
Even at 25m I think someone's getting a bargain.
