Not sure who I'd rather see go. WW or some posters on this forum?

Unfortunately he did deano. I watched the game live. Just before the altercation, Roberts walked over with his hand held out and Wout just turned his back on him.deanothedino wrote: ↑Fri Jun 10, 2022 9:27 amDid he? The clip just shows Roberts walking up to him giving him grief.

Re: Wout Weghorst
I don’t understand the downer on WW
It sounds like he has a contract that is 4 years long that states he needn’t play in the championship, but, hey, if the club gets promoted again he still has two years to go. Anything he has stated public ally is along those lines, perhaps without emotion, but reflecting the facts.
Roberts saying what he did was unnecessary and provocative. No wonder he told him to shut up

I think it’s more the fact he’s come in, underperformed himself, missed some big chances at key times and then starts marketing himself as this guy who’s superior to us.NRC wrote: ↑Fri Jun 10, 2022 1:41 pmI don’t understand the downer on WW

On the other hand, Cornet, likely to not be with us next season in the Championship either, did a post to say how he will ‘give his all to get the club back to where they should be etc’. And that’s it. Oh and he actually contributed quite significantly unlike WW.

Re: Wout Weghorst
Pitch performance aside, I’m referring to his contractual situation. It is what it is, and who can blame him for it. What is he supposed to do, contradict his contract or rip it up and say eff it I’ll play in the championship? He wants to play for his country in the World Cup in a few months time

Putting aside how much of a clear bellend Weghorst is (Watford away, statements since relegation, refusal to shake Roberts hand, refusal to take a vaccine that contributes to the betterment of human kind), it's almost perverse that people are defending him on a footballing front. He contributed the square root of **** all in 17/20 appearances, and the endless defence of him and finger pointing at our tactics, our other players, our manager(s), our fans etc, etc as the reason for his inability to perform is nauseating.daveisaclaret wrote: ↑Fri Jun 10, 2022 1:45 pmIt's hard to believe you don't understand the downer on a crap player who contributed to our relegation and is publicly letting everyone know he has no interest in the consequences.

I doubt in the world of football banter, WW would get much sympathy for being provoked by a comment as lightweight as that. More typically, he might have shaken hands for image sake and replied with something like "Because I couldn't get anywhere near your [deleted] crosses".NRC wrote: ↑Fri Jun 10, 2022 1:41 pmI don’t understand the downer on WW

Re: Wout Weghorst
Talk today that Eintracht Frankfurt want him, the media story translated from German was implying it is a clause in his contract that allows him to go on loan, which if true is far from ideal and implies we were so desperate to sign him we’d agree to all kinds of clauses that in hindsight we may wish we didn’t.
Still the right thing to do, we were in a bind, but we are in a worse one now it seems.

Re: Wout Weghorst
If we really signed him with a clause in his contract that he could go on loan if we were relegated, unless that clause also says we need to be paid a hell of a lot of money for it, then it is a shocking way to run a football club. We went into January not planning to sign anyone, how did we end it throwing so much money away?
Re: Wout Weghorst
Yeah, weird clause that. Doesn't really suit us. Only positive is it will get his wages off the books and his attitude away from the camp. But then in a year we get him back. Hmm.CrosspoolClarets wrote: ↑Fri Jun 10, 2022 2:24 pmTalk today that Eintracht Frankfurt want him, the media story translated from German was implying it is a clause in his contract that allows him to go on loan, which if true is far from ideal and implies we were so desperate to sign him we’d agree to all kinds of clauses that in hindsight we may wish we didn’t.

I've been a defender of Wout, even I understand the downer on him and I agree with it. His comments have been a disgrace imo. Not that I agree with Roberts acting like a bell end, Roberts should also be asking himself why he didn't do it at Burnley. The Burnley fans hailing Roberts as some kind of hero are the same ones who were slagging his performances off, bizarre bunch.

Re: Wout Weghorst
Man United home, brilliant assist for Rodriguez.
Wolves home, squared for a Vydra game winning tap in. Highest number of presses recorded in the PL.
Brighton away, brilliant.
Spurs home, worked like an absolute dog and held the ball very well.
West Ham away, scored.
Soton home, granted he missed a sitter but he was highly effective and influential in that first half, the best 45 i've seen from the team all season.
Palace away, very good imo put the ball in the net too, Rodriguez was a toe offside.
The last 5 games he was barely used and it cost us imo, we played our best football with him on the pitch against Newcastle. There was certainly poor performances in there, he barely touched the ball at home to Man City and Chelsea. I thought the team was rank bad at Norwich and in both Watford games so he's included in that. Villa home he was poor (that Barnes/Wout partnership is one I wanna see never again). Leicester home he was ****.

Re: Wout Weghorst
I dunno if I am his biggest hater, I wanted him in the Championship, a few others on here didn't even want him for that. Most vocal critic I will get on board with but it's not a title I will proudly wear, I don't criticise a player and enjoy it. He's the most disappointing signing ever though - if you look back to January you'd see I was absolutely delighted at the prospect of him playing for us - then again I should have realised that YouTube made even Dane Richards look like Raheem Sterling.
17 games out of 20 was an exaggeration though, I'll give you that. The Villa game at home was his worst performance though, for me, out of the ones you listed.
Re: Wout Weghorst
That Barnes Wout combo was truly horrific. I'm no Rodriguez or Vydra super fan but I think we missed those two badly, really unsettled team, he had a new partner every game. Soton home with Rodriguez was great, the next game he's next to Vydra with Rodriguez out wide, the next game Rodriguez isn't in the team. Such a dysfunctional ineffective group as a whole.jedi_master wrote: ↑Fri Jun 10, 2022 3:00 pmI dunno if I am his biggest hater, I wanted him in the Championship, a few others on here didn't even want him for that. It hasn't worked out and if we can recover a decent chunk of what we paid then we should take that chance. Europa League winners and next season champions League participants being interested really does suggest he's not nearly as bad a player as some are making out on here. Would have been good for us had we stayed up I reckon.

Re: Wout Weghorst
He does his best work deep, abit like what Harry Kane is criticised for. He'd dribble past players somehow, more of a wriggle past. The ball just seems to stick to him when he's playing well, I remember at home to United, some of his work on the halfway line was superb. The home game against Watford early in the 2nd half when he hit the bar, that touch around the defender was disgustingly good, like from a Bergkamp highlight reel. That kinda summed his spell up, absolute zero luck there with the wind taking it onto the crossbar. Newcastle home, Barnes drills it in, Weghorst at absolute full stretch, any kind of touch and you'd expect a goal, does everything right and it goes wide.Marney&Mee wrote: ↑Sat Jun 11, 2022 12:53 pmHave to agree. We need to get rid on a permanent transfer asap. Not a premier league player and he’s decided he won’t play in the championship. He’s a very expensive passenger.
Re: Wout Weghorst
Watford away he's waiting to take a penalty and its called back for a freekick. He's also there for a tap in and Lennon gets the cross wrong, 2nd half he's there for a tapin and Lennon decides to shoot.

And if he stays you do have to wonder how that'll impact on our dressing room, given the seeming bad blood between him and the rest of the squad, as the incident with Roberts illustrates.
If we can get anywhere near £12m I'd bide him goodbye ASAP, the last thing we want is any bad eggs in the camp, plus he's also one of our higher earners.

Very worrying if we agreed to a “free loan” if relegated. That’s a terrible deal, although perhaps what was necessary to secure him.

Some transfers work out some don't, sadly he falls into the latter camp. I only hope we can manage to offload him for a decent fee that allows us to bring in a young pacy striker to give us another dimension to our play.

Re: Wout Weghorst
I doubt anyone is willing to take him off our hands for £12 mill or 8 for that matter, he had a clause in his contract that says he can go on loan if we ended up in the Championship, Burnley FC agreed that when he joined, if we loan him out to Besiktas then whatever we were paying him is saved for 12 months and we could use elsewhere for loanees etc. I honestly doubt we will sell him except at a loss.

Re: Wout Weghorst
As Dyche used to say - putting the ball in the back of the net is the hardest job in football. There will always be demand for strikers. WW had a hard half a season with us, arguably due to our pretty **** style, but he’s an established international with an unquestionable goal scoring record - so I’m pretty confident we’ll be able to find a buyer.
Really, I wish we could keep him because I think he could be an asset, but as you say that’s not feasible after his comments so we need to ship out & move on.

If he's on, say, £60k* a week here reduced to £30k a week upon relegation, is the loaning club going to pay us the £30k and him £30k so he ends up fully paid? So we pay him nothing, we get £30k a week, he gets £60k a week. Is that the general gist of it?

Re: Wout Weghorst

Re: Wout Weghorst
I would suggest that if there’s an agreement he wouldn’t play in the championship then I imagine he’s also not agreed to a pay cut on relegation.distortiondave wrote: ↑Mon Jun 13, 2022 9:02 pmI'm sure this has been brought up, and apologies if it's a daft question, but what's in it for Weghorst to go on loan to Turkey?
