Those comments from Merson were a month ago.

Also, I don’t value Pope under 20m, I actually think he’s ‘worth’ more - but transfers don’t always play out like that.

There needs to be a market - example, Collins seems to have 4/5 clubs keen, that can then force a bit of a bidding war, plus we really need to keep him, that adds to the price we can let him go for.

Pope on the other hand, it appears Newcastle are the only club in for him, he wants/needs a Prem return, we need to sell for some funds and VK might not be over keen on keeping him anyway due to style of play.

You can’t just sit there, with the above factors at hand, and say ‘Hi Newcastle, it’s £30m or nothing’ - they walk away and get a different keeper. They hold all the cards on this deal, if there even is a deal, and hence the fee will be far more in their favour than ours.
Sorry, just seen this.

It wasn’t actually aimed at you RV, or even Pope specifically, more a broader observation that our fan base under value our players. I think we’ll find this summer that a lot of other clubs will want most of them.

Re: Pope, what Newcastle will not be able to buy very easily is PL experience. They could of course go elsewhere but it’s unlikely they’ll get that experience. I imagine that’s what they’ll want to take them to the next level & will ultimately pay for it. But to be honest I hope they don’t and I hope he stays because I think our chances of promotion (and staying there) would massively increase if he stayed.

Be delighted with Wallace. Knows the Champ inside out. Freebie. And would fit into VK’s system quite well.
Decent stats
But in a mid table Championship side he could quite easily be one of their better performers, but does that really mean he will be a good signing for us
Not exactly a queue of clubs seem to after him (having said that, no known interest in Ben Mee being reported as yet)
Getting married this summer so will be no doubt looking for a decent package to secure his financial future
May be better than Lennon or JBG, and on a free could interest us but, looking to the future, he is 28 and is there a Prem player in there ?
As for fitting into VK's system, I presume you have watched quite a few of Millwall and Anderlecht's games in full last season
I hope you are right

VK will know whether Wallace could fit into his system. He's the only person that counts.

First thing I said on relegation was to please get John Swift, Jed Wallace and Tom Lawrence in. Sensible business on free transfers all of them.

I think Swift has been snapped up but we should be all over the other two. I say that, but Lawrence is possibly getting a Premier League offer or two.

Nixon when asked where he sees Wallace ending up

‘Burnley good chance’

Sounds promising

Yes I said similar, gives us lots of depth, play various positions and proven quality at this level.

The fact they're frees, they're a chance to make profit on them is an absolute bonus.

Wouod certainly allow us to put some serious finances into a proven goalscorer and rock solid CB.

Think we certainly need a forward who can score 20+ league goals, and they cost a lot of money.
We need one who will get 15 along side him, although hopefully Jay can get somewhere near that.

Who's the guy who's going to get 20+ goals?

I heard Armstrong ex Blackburn and current Southampton forward is available, so wouod certainly fit the profile for me.

Going back to the "Pope to Newcastle" rumour, there could be some room to add some of their fringe players to the deal, if actual transfer fees are way apart
Shelvey
Darlow
Schar
Lewis
Krafth
Dummett
Ritchie
None of the above are going to get much game time next season

There's also a lad called Wood

Steer clear of Tom Lawrence, bang average and would take a big wage.

I’d be very surprised if VK even knows him.
Also “first team manager” has me beat. I hope he is selecting his own players but I doubt it.

Dwight Gayle is 32, and he's nothing like the player he was a few years ago, plus we already have Barnes and Rodriguez who are hardly spring chickens are they, not what we need in my view, and Gayle would be on hefty wages I'd imagine.

They got a load of goals playing together, but that was 3-4 years ago. We know Jay has lost a yard since and suspect Dwight has too, but have heard Middlesborough want Gayle

Some of the players being mentioned on here don’t sound anything like the profile we are supposedly aiming for now - young, potential, resale value.

Josh Cullen and Taylor Harwood Bellis both fit that profile, but yes I agree some of the others mentioned don't seem to be what we'd be seeking.

Eh? I’d say they all are except Wallace. Even he’d be a free and therefore have resale value.

If I knew how to attach a picture I'd post it but off the MK Don's fanpage it's been reported we're readying a £4,000,000 plus add on's for Scott Twine 👍

In fairness I still hear people refer to Charlie Taylor as young despite him being 30 next year! Connor Roberts is another who got leeway for his form so far with us due to being ‘young’ despite being 27 in a couple of months. Jessie Lingard syndrome!

26 is young for us though considering our average last season.

He's an odd one. I looked at his Twitter and he said back in May that Kompany would be announced within 48 hours. He then retweeted it suggesting he was right. Maybe he meant days and not hours.

I've no idea. I just know anything he gets correct was already covered by respectable people/accounts hours/days earlier. Anything he guesses at happening doesn't happen.

I’ve just had a read of Oxford United’s forum, they are universally raving about McNally. Great on the ball and very quick are the most common points made. They say he is better than their last two centre backs they exported to the Championship (Robert Atkinson and Rob Dickie).

Seems very highly rated. I wonder if he’s the Collins immediate replacement. Comments I saw are that he is without a doubt above league One level.

Sounds like McNally could be a decent player. Think we were linked with Dickie now at QPR last season weren’t we?

Why do we do this? Just give them a couple of million and a sell-on cut and do the business.
As for Collins, off you go to the highest bidder.

I've really missed these "just pay them whatever money they want FFS" posts.
Glad to have added to your enjoyment. :D

Yeah let’s just get on with it and spend half a million more on every player we want to sign. That won’t in any way linit our ability to strengthen the squad to its best potential. Genuinely don’t think some of you live in the real world.

Football is hardly what many of us would call "the real world"

Well of course it’s the real world. The report says we have bid £1.5m and Oxford want £1.75m and you want us to just give them £2m? Do you think we’re in a position to just throw half a million quid away to get a deal done quickly? Bet you kick off if your local pub puts up the price of a pint by 20p.

Yeah right,

You are badly informed,
I don't have a local and I don't "kick off" at anything.

It was a crap analogy. Substitute your local pub for fuel prices, energy prices, groceries etc. I bet you wouldn’t willingly pay more for something than it’s worth so why would you expect BFC to do so for a player I bet you’ve never seen.

whatever.
If this player is what we want then we make an offer that is unlikely to be turned down
alternatively we could wait until the last day of the window and sign the next Dale Stephens on a free

So… if the rumours I’ve read on this forum are all accurate then we start next season with an unknown team and expect to bounce straight back up…

Ok then…

Frankly, I pay what I'm charged for anything I wish to buy.

Again, we’re operating in the real world here. The only two options are not 1.) pay more than what the selling club want or 2.) sign the next Dale Stephens.

If we pay half a million more than our valuation of this player we will have half a million less to spend on someone else. We may also have eyes on a player who will cost us half a million more and is better than this one.
