Transfer Rumours Thread - NO FINANCIAL DISCUSSION
Re: Transfer Rumours Thread - NO FINANCIAL DISCUSSION
‘Anderlecht is about to lose an important player in his core. Josh Cullen could sign in Burnley in the coming days.
He was not in the Mauves training so that he could go and discuss his transfer to the Clarets.
Championship residents have made a first offer of two million but Anderlecht wants more for the player who has only one year left of contract.’

How many midfielders are we after? I'm losing count.

Interesting and they aren't going to get much more given he's entering the final year of his contract, especially if nobody else is expressing an interest in him.RVclaret wrote: ↑Fri Jul 08, 2022 4:35 pm‘Anderlecht is about to lose an important player in his core. Our midfield is going to look radically different when they line-up at Huddersfield at this rate.
Re: Transfer Rumours Thread - NO FINANCIAL DISCUSSION
This would give us 4 fit centre midfielders (Westwood may not be back until the new year?).

Is Cullen key to how Kompany wants us to play?
Similar to Jorginho was for Sarri at Chelsea?

Re: Transfer Rumours Thread - NO FINANCIAL DISCUSSION
He will know the system and role to a t, that’s for sure. His role in it was rather unique I’d say. Not that Cork couldn’t learn it mind.GodIsADeeJay81 wrote: ↑Fri Jul 08, 2022 4:42 pmIs Cullen key to how Kompany wants us to play?

Having a selection of central midfielders will take some getting used to

Cullen. I thought Kompany said he wasn't going to raid his old club?

Cullen must be off regardless hence Kompany can sign him without a guilty conscience.

Not sure Boden actually knows something or that he's just putting 2&2 together after reading the article

I’d say Cullen Brownhill at first.

Who says it will only be 2?
Re: Transfer Rumours Thread - NO FINANCIAL DISCUSSION
Boden announced that he expected Bastien to sign on the day and was right. He seems to know a bit more these days. I’d be happy with Cullen.

Re: Transfer Rumours Thread - NO FINANCIAL DISCUSSION
Fair point - it does give flexibility. Just going off Kompany’s most played and successful formation at Anderlecht which was 4-2-2-2 variant.
Re: Transfer Rumours Thread - NO FINANCIAL DISCUSSION
If Cullen and Muric sign then I guess O'Hare won't. If we can hold on to our current players then a striker is all we'll need.

I don’t think I have ever been as excited by a new season since I was a naive kid just wanting to see the team play. I’ve always been quite level headed, but I’m experiencing butterflies like a child on Christmas Eve. It’s the anticipation rather then the hope. Not used to it at all!

Can you just tone it down a little - some of us older "seen it all" guys are trying to not get sucked into this frenzied excitement. Hey we have been here before and know that it's - Actually fck that - "come on you clarets" - I am as excited as I have been for the 53 years I have supported these *****!
Might take two seasons but the ride is real!

Twine is similar to O'Hare so with Cullen, Bastien, Brownhill and Cork I can't see us needing another midfielder.

Re: Transfer Rumours Thread - NO FINANCIAL DISCUSSION
We have, for too long, had too many players who knew that if they were fit, they started. This shake up will at least make them all think that the slate is wiped clean and they now all have to earn their place.

Seems you’re right and Stephens missed the early part of the season (not that we’d have noticed anyway).

Looks like the "new Burnley" moves on quickly to other targets once bids are rejected. Suspect its happened with Wiles and O'Hara

Re: Transfer Rumours Thread - NO FINANCIAL DISCUSSION
I see where you’re coming from but I’m not sure it’s the case. Arguably we have less competition for places as things stand. Those players who were shoo-in’s were so generally because they were our best players.randomclaret2 wrote: ↑Fri Jul 08, 2022 6:51 pmWe have, for too long, had too many players who knew that if they were fit, they started. Re: Transfer Rumours Thread - NO FINANCIAL DISCUSSION
So if we do get Cullen, then (as others have said) it does give us plenty of flexibility in the midfield areas and will allow us to play in different formations. I'm liking the fact that a lot of our signings / targets can play in multiple positions if required. This will be invaluable in a long slog championship season.
Also probably means a no go for Wiles or Knight?
It also allows us to switch between 3-5-2, 4-3-3, 4-2-2-2 and 4-2-3-1 if required.

Knight / Wiles / O’Hare would all likely play the inside 10 roles so doesn’t mean a no go (in my opinion).Ric_C wrote: ↑Fri Jul 08, 2022 7:02 pmSo if we do get Cullen, then (as others have said) it does give us plenty of flexibility in the midfield areas and will allow us to play in different formations. Ah ok, I wasn't sure how attacking Knight and Wiles were. So it's probably 1 of those from 3 then

Re: Transfer Rumours Thread - NO FINANCIAL DISCUSSION
We are still down on numbers admittedly but this transfer window still has a long way to go. Some more current players may well leave and it seems certain a few more are still to come in. We have an entirely new coaching staff, seemingly a new approach to transfers, with previously untapped markets being explored and a new style of play surely on it way. Cumulatively they all add up to an enormous shake up. Last year 8 or 9 players would at this stage be pretty certain that barring injury they would be starting the first game .Im not sure that is the case now.

They were indeed.
I think our biggest problems were lack of genuine competitiion for the shirt, almost like a shadow squad, and too many "like for like" replacements.
I'm genuinely hoping for a more flexible approach under VK. A season in the 2nd tier will help with that, IMO.

Rileybobs, I note your use of the word 'generally' but I always thought Cork was a better player than Westwood and that we were much more of a threat with him in the side

Re: Transfer Rumours Thread - NO FINANCIAL DISCUSSION
Yeah I think that’s a fair point. It will be nice to see more variety, but it’s largely down to the drop in division which you refer to.boatshed bill wrote: ↑Fri Jul 08, 2022 7:13 pmThey were indeed.

Re: Transfer Rumours Thread - NO FINANCIAL DISCUSSION
VK seems to be bringing in young promising talent so it might take a season before we're challenging for promotion but the future is looking a lot more promising with him. Hopefully exciting times ahead
