Nothing new but a BBC journalist tweeted
“Maxwel Cornet is expecting to leave Burnley. Chelsea & Everton have had conversations, host of clubs round Europe too. Cornet has £17.5m exit clause in contract, Burnley ready and expecting his exit.”

Noticed a lot of Newcastle fans talking about Cornet today.
Some reason Forrest fans have been talking about him as well

Think he’d be a decent signing for Newcastle.Newcastleclaret93 wrote: ↑Sun Jul 10, 2022 7:32 pmNoticed a lot of Newcastle fans talking about Cornet today.

Suits Howe’s 4-3-3 system playing either on the left or right of the main striker.

Lots of noise, yet to see any money on the table yet. Does he get a start at Newcastle? I’m not convinced he does. Also surely NUFC fans are getting a bit bored signing players from us!

We brought in Heaton, Jones, Arfield & Kightly in 2013. We also had to rely on Vokes & Ings, neither of whom had done much for us previously.Spijed wrote: ↑Sun Jul 10, 2022 6:36 pmWhen was the last time a club changed its first eleven by at least five players from the previous season and went on to do well?
Can't think of any. Very worrying.
There may be exceptions, and even Crystal Palace did ok. But generally it tends not to end well at all.
Re: Transfer Rumours Thread - NO FINANCIAL DISCUSSION
Possibly on the right ahead of Fraser. Both him and ASM are injury prone too. Definitely a better option than Jacob Murphy in that position.Swizzlestick wrote: ↑Sun Jul 10, 2022 7:52 pmLots of noise, yet to see any money on the table yet. Does he get a start at Newcastle? For the record, I'm happy if and when Cornet leaves and we get a biggish fee for him. I think that will be best for all concerned.

Steady on with the common sense mate.Claretnick wrote: ↑Sun Jul 10, 2022 4:47 pmWhy are you scared?
I doubt this 19yo keeper would be number 1 but hey what do we know. Presumably the manager has seen enough of him at Anderlecht to value him at this amount of fee.
I will be sitting back and letting matters unfold, there is nothing we can do to influence the way the club is going forward.

Agreed - we know where we stand then and can hopefully put that towards O’Hare and a striker. I like Max and he’s definitely done well overall for us, but I’d be concerned over his readiness for 46 games in any case. It may be best for everyone.

Re: Transfer Rumours Thread - NO FINANCIAL DISCUSSION
No probs if Cornet goes for decent money, as long as some of those funds are reinvested, notably on a striker who'll score goals at this level.

Re: Transfer Rumours Thread - NO FINANCIAL DISCUSSION
As there seem to be more than 1 club interested in Cornet is the club obliged to sell him for the release amount or can they start a bidding war?
Re: Transfer Rumours Thread - NO FINANCIAL DISCUSSION
It’s lucky some on here don’t follow Stanley. I watched their first team beat Rovers yesterday and only Sean Mcconville started the first league game against Wycombe 12 months ago. The winning goal was brilliantly set up by Josh Woods an ex-barber who was playing for a Sunday league team in Skelmersdale last season. Pleased to report Rovers looked shocking although they have a number of good young players who will provide some good loans for league 1 teams.

Worryingly no new links to a couple of strikers we desperately need
Re: Transfer Rumours Thread - NO FINANCIAL DISCUSSION
I just don’t see where he fits. He scored some great goals and undoubtedly has some talent, but I don’t see a great player in there. He’s a nice to have, a bit of an expensive luxury.jedi_master wrote: ↑Sun Jul 10, 2022 8:08 pmAgreed - we know where we stand then and can hopefully put that towards O’Hare and a striker. I reckon he will spend his career not quite being able to fit in to a system. Saying that, strangely, I’d still like him to stay.
Cashing in is the right approach though. I just hope that the funds are invested in some proven quality. I agree with the sentiment that we are, so far at least, putting too much emphasis on potentially good signings.
I’d have a lot more confidence in the season ahead if we got a couple who we can have some real confidence in them delivering the goods.

To add some context to that statement 5 of the signings were made on Transfer Deadline Day January 2022 and all of those signings had experience at either PL or Championship level. They were not a whole raft of unproven players who might, or might not, go on to prove themselves at Championship level or above.
Freddie Woodman
Nat Phillips
Kieffer Moore
Siriki Dembele
Todd Cantwell

Re: Transfer Rumours Thread - NO FINANCIAL DISCUSSION
True. He’s the type of signing that’d have given me more confidence (alongside the younger players).
Liverpool are notoriously difficult to deal with & would probably ask for a big fee or his £60k/week paying in full!! They have 4 years left paying him £3.1m, so it’ll be a complex deal.

Possibly all three promoted clubs!
I looked at Forest's Play-off final line-up line-up and compared it their last game the previous season - seven different players.

Re: Transfer Rumours Thread - NO FINANCIAL DISCUSSION
Cornet rumours certainly ramping up..
Links with Leeds, Fulham, Everton, Chelsea, Arsenal, and a host of clubs around Europe..
Would rather get it done sooner rather than later, but I expect his agent is advising to push it until late in the window to see who might pop up when they miss out on their primary targets.
Whether VK would've played him wide, midfield or as a striker, we're short in all those positions anyway.
Hopefully he'll be given all the money.

Re: Transfer Rumours Thread - NO FINANCIAL DISCUSSION
I believe we still owe Lyon a large portion of the original fee. I’d assume any sale they would match the staged cash flows being received from the 17.5m sale to the remaining ones we owe to Lyon. Then any extra could be used…
Aside from that, this week we need to:
- get Cullen across the line
- sort the Cornet situation
- sign a keeper (Muric)
- bring in an attacking player (preferably striker)

Re: Transfer Rumours Thread - NO FINANCIAL DISCUSSION
We go to Portugal on Sunday and play our last pre season friendly in England on Friday. In an ideal world we take the squad to Portugal that we want for team bonding purposes, as well, the new keeper needs as many games with the defence as possible. Reports suggest Cullen is very close and the deal with Muric was being worked on. Cornet / striker situation probably be the trickiest given the lack of genuine links.

Is it too optimistic to say that I’m hoping that we are waiting for Delap to come back from city’s pre season tour and come to us on loan or permanent with a buy back clause
, oh and throw in his mate McAtee on loan too whilst we are at it

Cullen sounds close to completion.
Cornet we can't do much about unless he attracts interest from a club he and his agent deem acceptable.
Definitely need a keeper ASAP, assume that'll be Muric.
Frighteningly quiet on any real striker links, which is a major concern as it's a priority position or at least should be.
Re: Transfer Rumours Thread - NO FINANCIAL DISCUSSION
They are building a City second team there. I believe they are chasing a right back on loan from them too. If they do that then Delap would only be possible on a permanent for them, then it’s up to whether City are keen to sell.

Brentford close to signing Lewis-Potter from Hull.
Hull, who are already splashing the cash with new owners, will have some funds to play with.

Will he make the step up? Really risky signing for them. Probably take a season or two to be ready at that level.

I think Lewis-Potter is a class act.
On Hull though - poor looking squad to me, and now losing by far their best player. They may have money to spend but I don’t think they are building on a particularly solid base to begin with.
Could struggle!

It’s probably not a case of that. I would assume the clubs sound out the agent..Quickenthetempo wrote: ↑Mon Jul 11, 2022 9:46 amI find rumours about Cornet laughable, if a team wants him, they pay the release clause. Quite a simple piece of business to do.
If the agent is saying he’s not moving until later on the window then the clubs won’t make a move on the release clause.
I think it will be later business once they’ve heard all the offers, he won’t want to be moving again in 12 months time.
