As we are trying not to clog up the transfer links thread let's have a guess at moneys in, moneys out wages saved (without stating players wages unless they are in the domain - guesstimates will do!)

We know we have debt to service and we know that we are buying and selling in a different market place but lets have a stab at where we are at.
As you can see from the lists and lack of info below I haven't much of a clue in terms of the figures involved and it's guesswork on my part but it would be good to have more of an idea.

Last seasons wage bill circa 76m (I’ve deducted 14m from 90m, an approx figure for the year, as we are known to pay a large amount of staying up bonuses, of course we didn’t have to pay them this time)

Tarkowski, Mee, Pieters, Lennon, Bardsley, Stephens, Weghorst, Pope, Collins off the wage bill (let’s say an average of 2m per player for the year) which is 18m saved

76m - 18m = 58m

50% wage cuts on the rest of the squad would leave a wage bill of around 29m

Add back in the newly signed players for less than 1m each per season and you’ve got a current wage bill of approx 33-35m.

Parachute payment in year 1 is around 54m I believe. We are also saving on cat 1 academy costs which is around 4.5m per season if what I read what accurate?

I’d hazard a guess the wages are very low end as quoted above.

I remember our first season in the PL our top earners were on £50k a week, as I dealt with the payroll software at the time.

It's very presumptuous to think all players are taking 50% cuts. All coaching staff wages are in included. Do you think they will half their pay?
Agents fees will be up this season with more deals.


Based on Rovers losing money at a 16m wage bill and 40m PP. We will need the wage bill at 50m and then 30 if we don't get promoted.
That's without the loan/debt repayments or any wages the board members might take.

The player sales need to pay our debts off and provide good replacements.
The fees we have got so far are lower than we all expected.

My finger in the air would be pretty similar. Plus, I would assume, very hefty promotion bonuses.

I suspect our backroom wage bill will have dropped a fair bit too which is obviously part of that wages figures.

I don't think we'll be saving much, if anything, on academy costs. Assuming we are downgraded (things seem to have gone a bit quiet again and it's not really clear whether the downgrade happened) it seems fairly marginal and they are probably aiming to get Category 1 back so I wouldn't think much has been saved on costs.

Yes just basing off other clubs accounts the entire wage bill was cut in half, so that would include staff.

I believe Egan Riley (signing from City) was earning roughly £3.5k a week according to various online sources, while Harwood Bellis around 7.5k a week. So even less than my forecasted amount.

Last accounts suggested the board members may not have taken any pay yet.

You don’t know if player sales are paying off the debt - that is an assumption yes. I’d say the likes of Collins / Cornet sales will help pay off / cancel out the transfer debt to the clubs we bought them from at least, reducing our player amortisation.

the first year parachute payment is 55% of the equal share payments - so forget merit payments and TV appearance/facilities fees money above the minimum - in the current format of parachute payments are: Year 1 - £41.8m; Year 2 - £34.2m; Year 3 - £15.2m. There remains a chance those payments will increase as we enter a new TV cycle, but it will not be by much. Even if the 20 Premier League clubs vote in favour of increasing the equal share element of the Overseas TV revenue, this would only likely amount to an additional £5m in year 1, £4m in year 2 and £2m in year 3.

Think it was this I was going off when I saw West Brom’s 53m broadcasting revenue from 2019. Swiss ramble comments that the revenue decrease from 2019 - 2020 is due to a ‘lower parachute payment’. Any ideas on this?
