Would imagine it’s a case of each potential deal on its merits.
I’m guessing we’re looking to bring in a striker on a permanent deal, but if a good loan option (ie Delap) presents itself, we’ll take it.

Your neighbours Ferrari might have no engine. Let's see what we have before we go writing people off as 'worse' than what we have before.

Yes, which is a perfectly sensible and suitable approach.ClaretInLeeds wrote: ↑Fri Jul 15, 2022 5:34 pmMaybe we tried to bring in players in those positions permanently but wasn’t possible, so as a last resort, we looked at loans?
However in an interview the manager happened to say they were a lost resort and so people on here will question every single loan signing.

Agreed.Rileybobs wrote: ↑Fri Jul 15, 2022 5:34 pmWhen Kompany made that comment I understood it to be that it would be the last resort in terms of how we would look to sign a particular player. But if a particular target is only available to loan, or out of our price bracket then we will loan them. It was similar when he said he wasn’t going to raid Anderlecht and some people took that to mean we wouldn’t sign anybody from them.
Equally it could mean, we want a player, a club won’t accept an offer for him but they will let us have him on loan.

Re: Transfer Rumours Thread - NO FINANCIAL DISCUSSION
Loans means you can secure a very high quality player, that we could probably not afford to buy, but more importantly the club might not let them go permanently. We have to admit a few clubs have really benefitted from the likes of Mason Mount, Timori, Harvey Elliott, Reece James,Armando Broja and many more. So pleased we are keeping an open mind and exploiting some real quality. Full marks to VK who has obviously been able to attract the player but also has put the mind of the supplying club at rest about game time
Re: Transfer Rumours Thread - NO FINANCIAL DISCUSSION
The sooner people accept that this thread will stray away from just transfers the better. People are allowed to talk about the transfer situation as a whole you know.

We are still doing amazingly well on the transfers to posts ratio which normally ranges between 0:5000 and 1:5000.

I'm sure we have agreed personal terms with him, it's agreeing the fee with Coventry that's the problem.Ric_C wrote: ↑Fri Jul 15, 2022 7:21 pmO'Hare personal terms agreed according to Owen O'Brien

Everton are really taking the mick now, that “play now pay later” for Cornet is deliberately designed to get this thread talking about finances. Or jokers. Or both.
Re: Transfer Rumours Thread - NO FINANCIAL DISCUSSION
I might be way off the mark here, but doesn't a club agree a fee first and then personal terms?claretandy wrote: ↑Fri Jul 15, 2022 7:26 pmI'm sure we have agreed personal terms with him, it's agreeing the fee with Coventry that's the problem.

Re: Transfer Rumours Thread - NO FINANCIAL DISCUSSION
There are various reports along the lines of we are offering to triple his salary and at the same time make him one of the highest players in the Championship - so personal terms are not an issue
We haven't finalised a fee with Coventry but once you have got the player that far down the line you'd expect it to be 'when' not 'if' he signs

From his past, looks like another who wasted his time at Chelsea, being sent out on loan half a dozen times until he finally gave up and left.

Re: Transfer Rumours Thread - NO FINANCIAL DISCUSSION
Burnley need to tell Everton to go away and stop taking the mick, having just sold Richarlison for £50m-£60m. Suspect we need the cash early, which is why I hear Pope went on the slightly low side in order that more came up front rather than instalments. I think as we get closer to the window closing, more clubs will panic and show an interest in Cornet. Yes he can go for £17.5m but Cornet and his agent need to appreciate we are not a charityCrosspoolClarets wrote: ↑Fri Jul 15, 2022 7:38 pmEverton are really taking the mick now, that “play now pay later” for Cornet is deliberately designed to get this thread talking about finances. Re: Transfer Rumours Thread - NO FINANCIAL DISCUSSION
Any news on Dwight ? Saw a bit of stuff about Palace and a few others but seemed to go cold ? He could really thrive with some pace and creativity around him( in the champ hopefully !) I see MC edging closer to a deal and WH of course gone . He’ll be snapped up but even at 39 Ben Foster is still an elite keeper of the highest order .

Re: Transfer Rumours Thread - NO FINANCIAL DISCUSSION
I remember him at Barnsley on loan when he was a young lad, big unit reminds me on Abraham. Was a goal machine in Brugge with Cercle, was linked all around Europe at the time, with big clubs too. Ended up weirdly at Genk where he was always gonna struggle for gametime, they have Onuachu in the lone striker role. I don't watch French football so no idea how he played 2nd half of last year.

Agree, but an alternative reading is the ‘right player’ will be signed, permanently or as a last resort… a loan.arise_sir_charge wrote: ↑Fri Jul 15, 2022 5:43 pmYes, which is a perfectly sensible and suitable approach.

Cornet update from VK
Re: Transfer Rumours Thread - NO FINANCIAL DISCUSSION
I'm certain Cornet will go, but I'd be thrilled if he stayed. Even if only for half a season. The clause is so low I can't imagine he doesn't move. But I can hope.

I just hope Cornet is the final departure.

Gutted about cornet leaving I was hoping he was going to be our 20-30 goals a season player.
If he leaves on loan that would be horrendous
