Numerous things to get used to CT-manager, coaches, players, formations, playing styles. Could not be more different to what we had become accustomed to

Good report Tony, welcome back.
Nice response from Steve Cotterill, he always was a decent man and good manager.

I enjoyed it. The lads all looked very tuned in to the new style of play already and its certainly pleasing on the eye. I think some fans (my Dad being one of them) will be watching with hands over their eyes when we're knocking it whilst under pressure about in our own area as often (and as confidently) as we were at Shrewsbury. Good to catch up with you there Tony.

Re: REPORT: New look Clarets impress at Shrewsbury
I don't usually pay attention to pre-season, but it can't do Brownhill any harm to notch 3 assists, albeit you do have to take into account the level of opposition.
Good for Bastien to get off the mark early also.
Nearly 600 is a decent following given it's a friendly and also the holiday season.
Now a long couple of weeks until the acid test at Huddersfield, and hopefully a few more signings before then.

Good effort, should've had at least one more. But the missus stopper me at 8 pints. The footy was decent too.

Could not agree more. Steve was a good manager manager, and had loads of integrity. He had the amazing ability to attract a number of great footballers when we were skint and one of the few managers who knew the lower league players. It was time for him to go when he did, but he did us no harm

It cost us a goal playing it out and I’m not sure Norris was comfortable with it either. I’m in your dad’s camp for now but we will see how things develop. Good to see you too Jedi.jedi_master wrote: ↑Mon Jul 18, 2022 10:38 amI enjoyed it. The lads all looked very tuned in to the new style of play already and its certainly pleasing on the eye. Let's hope Norris has no ultimate concerns with this.ClaretTony wrote: ↑Mon Jul 18, 2022 1:09 pmIt cost us a goal playing it out and I’m not sure Norris was comfortable with it either. I’m in your dad’s camp for now but we will see how things develop. Good to see you too Jedi.

Steve C did much of the groundwork. Just a shame he couldn't get the football on the pitch to work, which ultimately all managers live and die by.

When you look back, it was probably the right time to go, but he'd left us with a squad including the likes of Alexander, Caldwell, Carlisle, Elliott and Blake who got us up in the next season.

Re: REPORT: New look Clarets impress at Shrewsbury
I wonder if he is thinking of playing 3 at the back at times this season. Taylor seems like the ideal candidate to play on the left of a back 3, with the new lad playing left wing back. I cant imagine he has come to sit on the bench.

I don't think there is much evidence of him not playing a back fourGranny WeatherWax wrote: ↑Mon Jul 18, 2022 2:01 pmI wonder if he is thinking of playing 3 at the back at times this season. Youd assume the Maatesen signing came with some conditions, and I dont think many of us wouldnt start with Taylor.ClaretTony wrote: ↑Mon Jul 18, 2022 2:09 pmI don't think there is much evidence of him not playing a back four
It's going to be interesting, thats for sure.

It was strange how history then repeated itself with Howe failing to do much with us, apart from leaving us with Trippier, Mee, Shackell, Stanislas, Ings and Vokes, who Dyche then forged into a promotion team.

I suspect Taylor might have a push to start - ended last season poorly I thought and looked out of sorts at Shrewsbury.Granny WeatherWax wrote: ↑Mon Jul 18, 2022 2:12 pmYoud assume the Maatesen signing came with some conditions, and I dont think many of us wouldnt start with Taylor.

Re: REPORT: New look Clarets impress at Shrewsbury
Was it Bobby Thomas playing CB number 16 on Friday?
Who ever it was was very assured and had plenty of the ball so a big positive for me.
Cullen looked a player, wanted the ball, was always available and was very talkative, potential captain material
Cork looked classy
Barnsey played well
Brownhill looked a positive
Overall a decent display, certainly first half before the changes xx

Re: REPORT: New look Clarets impress at Shrewsbury
There was an interesting piece Boden put up, an analysis of the system Kompany utilised at Anderlecht.
Essentially It’s 4-4-2 when defending but when attacking, Cullen drops back to the right side of a back three (always the right side never the center). The left back bombs forward, which I assume is the role Maatsen will fill. Right back more defensive. Both wingers come inside.

I saw the brief highlights on YouTube. Did I see Mike Jackson among our back room staff or was I mistaken

The Bee Hole End and patience and understanding now that will be something to behold.

Re: REPORT: New look Clarets impress at Shrewsbury
Yes I spotted him as well. Makes sense given the number of u-23 players in the squad
