I wish him well but I think a player coach role might have been a better option its one serious commute from Alderley to Brentford

Why would a player / coaching role tempt someone who wants to play and still has a few years left of playingWoodleyclaret wrote: ↑Thu Jul 21, 2022 1:39 pmI wish him well but I think a player coach role might have been a better option its one serious commute from Alderley to Brentford
Re: Transfer Rumours Thread - NO FINANCIAL DISCUSSION
We couldn't afford him, if he wanted to stay enough he could have, sadly we wasn't willing to pay the appropriate pound notes to do so, and rightly so imo.Woodleyclaret wrote: ↑Thu Jul 21, 2022 1:39 pmI wish him well but I think a player coach role might have been a better option its one serious commute from Alderley to Brentford
However I must say I think we missed him and his leadership skills towards the end of the season, and with Collins coming in and doing so well, probably was the reason we won't be seeing him in claret and blue this season.
Mee getting injured did us over twice really, and cost us not only our premier league status, but 2 players too
In my opinion of course

Sorry to post this but have we got any serious leads with wingers and central strikers? I've read about this bloke from Oostende (Gueye) but that's about it.
Just seen Fabio Silva has gone on loan to Anderlecht. Now I would have liked to have seen him at TM.

Re: Transfer Rumours Thread - NO FINANCIAL DISCUSSION
Nothing since Liam Delap and Ike Ugbo, and even they are dead silent now.
Perhaps Cornet is staying, or they’re waiting for him to go..
Seems ridiculously quiet on the striker front otherwise.
Re: Transfer Rumours Thread - NO FINANCIAL DISCUSSION
Delap has been linked. Ugbo too. Kompany doesn’t play with wingers hence no winger links.

Re: Transfer Rumours Thread - NO FINANCIAL DISCUSSION
Heard that Kompany was very impressed with Kevin Long’s cameo appearance up front against Everton a couple of seasons ago. Might explain why we seem heavy in the defence department and Kompany is relaxed about our forward options.

Me too. Wish him the very best and look forwards to watching him this season.

What's this fascination with being so narrow minded. The club's not gonna shag you for proving you're Burnley, only Burnley, and who cares about anything else. It's a big wide world out there.... embrace it.

Seeing that there is already a thread about Ben Mee

I fail to see why this is being discussed here!

Re: Transfer Rumours Thread - NO FINANCIAL DISCUSSION
I know his and the team's attacking output was poor last season but McNeil's solitary assist came against Brentford at home playing LM and his best other creation was the ball for Corner against Norwich away, also LM (came on for Lennon and Cornet got switched right if memory serves).RVclaret wrote: ↑Thu Jul 21, 2022 7:48 amHad a couple of games towards the back end when we played 5-3-2, Villa and Spurs away.
As for his best position, I disagree with WoodleyClaret, I think being stuck on the left wing no longer suits him and it’s his worst position. He will absolutely excel in Kompany’s 4-2-2-2 as an inside 10 from the right, very excited to see him there (he’s played there in pre season so far too).
He did nothing beyond a few nice dribbling runs as RM- something he can equally do left. Roberts pushing up and out of position drifting central and forward didn't help and between them our right was exposed- although not as exposed as Cornet left Taylor on the left.
I know that inverted wingers has been in vogue with the big clubs for almost 20 years now and orthodox wingers are seen as old hat but there's absolutely nothing in Dwight's actual performance history or output for me to suggest to me he's a better inverted RM than orthodox LM. He's not a good enough shot. In fact I'd say Cornet is far more suited to that role as he has a better shot on him and is better at cutbacks than traditional crosses.
McNeil could probably convert to a central playmaker in the mould of a de Bruyne, or advanced one ala Iniesta, but I'd still want him left of centre in such a role.
Re: Transfer Rumours Thread - NO FINANCIAL DISCUSSION
Interesting one given the reports in Belgium he was due for medical. Hope there’s another target lined up.
Are our transfers starting to hit a bit of a wall? O’Hare and now this, no striker…

Do you not agree terms before having a medical?
Can’t see somebody coming all this way for a medical without doing that first

Verbruggen falling through, O’Hare taking a lifetime, no new striker in and the first game 8 days away. Getting a bit frustrating now.

No messing about now, we have just over a week till the season kicks off. Need to bring a keeper in, unless he is happy with BPF, which doesn;t seem likely given we tried to sign this kid.

Re: Transfer Rumours Thread - NO FINANCIAL DISCUSSION
It's looking likely that BPF will be starting vs Huddersfield. In an ideal world we'd be starting with VK's #1 keeper for the season.
Re: Transfer Rumours Thread - NO FINANCIAL DISCUSSION
Latest from Nixon:
Burnley are making a shock bid for Metz’s Mali international Boubacar Kouyate.
Vincent Kompany needs a new defender after the loss of three senior squad men and he hopes to tie down a deal with the French club.
Kouyate, 25, has been a strong player for Metz and stood out for his country in the last African Cup of Nations.
Burnley will try to broker a deal at around £2.5 million for Kouyate who has been looking to play in England for some time.

That’s what I mean. Surely the process isMilltown1882 wrote: ↑Thu Jul 21, 2022 4:08 pmIt sounds like Anderlecht wanting a few we won’t pay which makes the whole media stories even weirder.
Agree fee with club
Agree terms with player
Medical
With people saying he was on way for medical you would assume that the first 2 were done
The news now coming out that unable to agree terms with Anderlecht makes it look like we weren’t even close to him signing

it could also be a "leak" from our end so Anderlecht think we are looking elsewhere..........Milltown1882 wrote: ↑Thu Jul 21, 2022 4:08 pmIt sounds like Anderlecht wanting a few we won’t pay which makes the whole media stories even weirder.

Any chance of some striker links rather than centre halves.

Re: Transfer Rumours Thread - NO FINANCIAL DISCUSSION
Boubacar Kouyate has certainly dived in value then if we think we can get him for £2.5m.
Alan Nixon wrote this story (link) in January saying that Leicester were trying to buy him for £16m.

The dive in value may have something to do with Ligue 1’s requirement for players to be vaccinated against Covid-19.
