A lot of plates spinning. They know who they want.

Hey Al, hope you're well! Wondered if any further movements from Burnley or is everything stalling?

It's a shame we've not managed to agree a fee with Coventry for O'Hare. Kompany obviously wanted him but if Coventry are demanding in excess of £10m we've rightly walked away. They're perfectly entitled to ask for that fee, but I agree with the club that he's nowhere near worthy of it.

It's the goalkeeper and striker situation that's worrying me. We need those two sorted ASAP.

Interesting

I suspect O’Hare was planned to be the marquee signing. If not him I hope we sign a top striker

I wouldn’t rule out O’Hare, if the player wants the move there is still a chance.

Sounds to me like we’ve got to a point where we’ve just said “ok, we move on” so now it’s over to the player.

There doesn’t need to be a ‘marquee signing’ - just the ‘right signings’. I’m also glad we’ve walked away if there’s truth in the repeated fees for O’Hare. No ******* about wasting time.

Coventry fans have convinced themselves that he doesn't want to move due to his unquestionable loyalty and love for the club. That we will maybe never know although it's rare a modern footballer chooses loyalty over money. We may not be offering enough to cause him to agitate for a move. What is likely is that his agent will be demanding a new contract with their high valuation of him. Likewise for Hamer and Gyokeres. Can they afford that?

It's a well known fact that you can't be a marquee signing (whatever that actually is) if you've ever made a mistake.

Didn't we have a similar situation with Tarkowski when he was at Brentford?
It seemed like we had gone as far as we were prepared to go and in the end Tarkowski practically forced the move.

When Spijed puts a winking Emoji on the end of his message it usually means it's a nonsensical, meaningless and pointless comment and the one above is no different.

No idea if it’s even remotely reliable as I can’t find the original tweet but a few pages on Twitter linking Burnley with a move for Bertrand Traore (in competition with Fenherbace)

90 mins (Graeme Bailey) reporting Newcastle looking Cornet and McNeil to bolster right wing options along with plenty of other lads like Pepe etc…

big difference between 2.5m and 16m in that report. Plus, Leicester and Villa looking at him according to the piece. Either the report is completely made up, or we're having a laugh.

What about the 18 year old it mentions? Doesn't he fit our new strategy?

Just had a watch of this lad. Seems to cover both LCB and RCB well. Occasionally playing CDM by the looks of things. Looks like he’d be a very good signing.

Add to that a wide right

McNeil and Cornet (if both or either stay) are far more effective on the LHS

And forget JBG coming on strong, given his injury record

Quite happy to walk away from O'hare if it means we keep Cornet and McNeil.

Not sure we've seen the end of it though. You'd imagine we'll be back in for O'hare if one or both of those leave.

if its something like 3 million euros up front, and the rest with add ons based on his and our performances, then its possibly doable

But its still an astronomical price for a 19 year old keeper with very limited experience

We really do need to move on

£10m for a 19yr old with 7 senior appearances?

Even getting to that with add ons seems a push

Verbruggen & O’Hare - Since our initial interest we have got £20m for Collins, easy early on in the window with relegation uncertainty but I’d imagine it’s harder for us to plead poverty in transfer deals after that sale.

Doesn’t mean you overpay for players though. Clearly there are funds there given the bids and links.

Burnley missing out on the big marquee signings isn't a new thing. Nicky Maynard, Henri Lansbury, that left winger, Orsic and many many more have all been through protracted sagas before coming out the wrong side of them. The position historically, is that normally Burnley need the players to exert pressure on the selling club (Tarkowski, Paterson, Wood, Gray) or have a pre existing agreement to move (Brownhill). The reality is, that once we face competition for players, either from the selling club, or other clubs, we more often than not come out on the wrong side of it.
